Any Official Word on BetterQuest?
I wouldn’t think it violates the rules. It is a 2kb ipf file, doesn’t overwrite anything at all, doesn’t datamine anything.
Data mining is the analysis step of the “knowledge discovery in databases” process, or KDD. The term is a misnomer, because the goal is the extraction of patterns and knowledge from large amounts of data, not the extraction (mining) of data itself.
BetterQuest just shows you a list of the quests you are eligible to receive that does not include quests marked as hidden. The base game has to keep that list to determine what quests you can pick up, all this add-on does is show you a partial list without the hidden quests. It doesn’t even show you where the quests are located aside from the Map Name. For people like me that are completionists, it is a godsend that keeps me in-game and stops me from having to constantly check Google, various websites, and YouTube videos. I would also say that it doesn’t give people an unfair advantage, anyone can Google a zone and see the quests on a couple websites. Basically what this addon does is help maintain the immersion of the game for those of us with that relentless compulsion to complete every single quest.
If we get told we can’t use it, obviously I won’t use it, but I will use Google and such on my second monitor to accomplish the same goal, and it will tell me where the hidden quests are. So, logically it would make sense for this to get approved.
Anyway, I’ve been waiting patiently a few days now for an answer to this question and I’m starting to get anxious. I’m sure there are other people that are right there with me.
Thanks for you hard work and attention to this issue, please get back to us quickly.
