We badly need an official statement regarding what the VAC Covers IMC

I seriously believe this is getting out of hand. I have read information regarding VAC in detail and I am worried that any of the approved mods might not pass through the VAC detection system at all. It did clearly state that:
Any third-party modifications to a game designed to give one player an advantage over another is classified as a cheat or hack and will trigger a VAC ban.

Clearly there are many advantages that Excrulon’s mods give to the player and this is troublesome!

As for other people stating that they are safely playing right now or running the game with the mods without getting the ban then don’t be too assured of your safety because I have found this with google:

It is only after a delay of “days or even weeks” that the account is permanently banned from “VAC Secure” servers for that game, possibly along with other games that use the same engine. (e.g. Valve’s Source games, GoldSrc games, Unreal engine games). Valve never discloses which cheat was detected.

There is a delay and that’s what worries me. IMC themselves may have a hard time trying to lift VAC bans from players who are going to be victimized by this possible catastrophe. Guess I’m rolling with my super clean backup just to keep myself safe until IMC gives out an official statement .___.

Up!

This does get a little worrisome.

Just remove add-ons for now.

What IMC thinks is fine =/= what VAC thinks is fine.

I figure if VAC helps keep the servers cleaner then I can live without an XP viewer. Though IMC should really add an ingame one anyway.

As someone using addons like exp viewer and quest recommendation I really don’t want to be banned over using an add on.

Actually, What IMC thinks is fine = what VAC thinks is fine.

“VAC is completely automated (i.e. no direct human intervention). It
checks your active memory for specific bits of code related to known
cheats, which are stored in a database. Each cheat is added
individually so there is no risk of false positive.”

Pay special attention to that last sentence.

Each cheat is added individually so there is no risk of false positive.

So if IMC has said something is OK to use in the game, there is no reason to believe that they would add it to VAC’s cheat-database when they already said it was fine to use.

I get how VAC works. But IMC saying something a few weeks ago about the XP viewer does not mean the FoW map or quest add-on is allowed too. I rather wait till we get full confirmation.

They would have to add those things to the database for it to find you’re using them and ban you for them. I would think (hope) that if they were going to do that they would announce it here first seeing as they previously said add-ons are ok.

But whatever you want to do. I don’t use any so it doesn’t really matter to me either way. Lol.

UP for this thread. This must be seen by the Staffs.

… and yet not a single person has bothered to summon @staff_john, @staff_julie or @staff_ethan

Would this include editing the hotkey XML file for a simple, highly needed, mapped key for interacting in quests while in mouse mode just because simply clicking doesn’t do anything e.g. extracting stuff from a disabled monster?

It’s hard to know as we haven’t determined yet to what extent IMC has configured their side of the VAC and I’m not really confident with VAC anti-cheat detection using its list full of individual cheat entries.

Easiest way to do this is to know how VAC works, anything marked as a VACable object in their game executable etc if memory does not match current stamp while running it will in-turn result in VAC. things such as autohotkey have been around for Ages and never have been a VAC offense since they do not read/write memory, not to say their aren’t ahk hacks, people have injected libraries into ahk causing vac bans as well. ToS would literally have to tell What files are on their verified list, which would be bad because modders would know what to avoid. best option play the game right. note: i’ve never heard of someone getting a ban for xml/cfg edits >.> these files change per person so if they added verify to it, obviously Every single user would get banned for differences.
