[Update] Clarification on the Founder's Pack and Servers

I’m sure you’re right but a single person like me taking on a multi-billion corporation like Steam into court would never happen. Legal fees alone would make it impossible for me.

Agree, but if this bad scenario happens, you won’t probably be the only one concerned, and that would also means really really bad PR for IMC.

Again :innocent:

What exactly is your point here? That she shouldn’t have made a mistake? I think everyone will agree with that. That was a crucial mistake that surely did quite some damage.

But mistakes happen. And I think she handled the mistake wonderfully. She was fairly quick to rectify it, making this thread to clarify the situation, to apologize and to provide a bit more information

Ping / Latency is important.

For example, this isn’t possible to do with a ping higher than 100+. Your attacks wouldn’t register, and they would be super slow with a high ping.

Low ping

High ping

The only major difference between these 2 players is their pings.

I hope this kind of makes people realize why I’m so enthusiastic about a local EU server for EU players.

Edit: I could go deep into PvP effects but, I think you get the idea how that would go. Imagine just hitting someone in PvP and they walk away with no harm despite you using a skill right next to them.

I’m an overthinker, guilty as charged. But I firmly believe it keeps my brain cells active and healthy.

As I am, which is why this is not the first time we come across each other ^^

In the end, we want the same thing, I just don’t think it helps to put that much pressure, as most people will simply overlook some of your arguments and categorise you as “whiner” (not that you’re one, just saying it can be hard to show your point).

But you know, just my opinion, have a good sunday evening

Oooohhhhh, I feel like doing oblique shot in the wind again

Everyone keeps talking about “the final decision” and how it should have been done before the sales were in place and how betrayed they were with the EA stuff whether it was 3 months or a week or whatever. People are posting negative reviews on steam and just in general behaving like jackasses.

Firstly, it’s not IMC’s fault if players do not read the FULL description of a product when purchasing it. Players have responsibility to make sure they read the terms of use, the full description and forum/website announcements. That’s why the information is posted. It’s like not reading a label for a bottle of medicine, and then proceeding to sue the company because you took headache medicine for an upset stomach.

That being said, the company/staff is responsible for responding in a timely manner and trying to put out fires where they can when there has been a miscommunication between the official information and the user base. This is what the majority of problems right now stem from. I 100% agree with everyone that’s posted about it that there should be more clarification on some topics from the get go…BUT

The EA has SINCE DAY ONE stated that there would be one server located in the EST US. That has never changed. They have never ONCE made a promise about opening up a EU server. Julie has done her best to relay the outcry for this to be changed and the best she can give until the higher ups decide other wise is “well maybe, we’re debating it.” She, and other staff members, have gone above and beyond with in this regard.

IMC does need to listen to the future customers/current customers about feedback and what not. This is obvious and it would be bad business to do otherwise. However they cannot change every little thing for every user. There was a thread somewhere asking the F2P date to be changed because they had a vacation. When did we gamers become so spoiled to think that we can make demands like this?

IMC has been extremely communicative with us about their intentions, they have been giving us a lot of feedback and changing their plans to fit the vocal complaints from many users. This is great, and what they should be doing. While not being a large company in and of itself for the publishing of this game, we are lucky enough to get to communicate quickly with the dev team about problems as they arise or just superficial complaints about patch notes that we’ve not even been in game to test. However, if they listen to each individual person and change every little thing the game will be ruined.

For example, the magic scrolls. There’s a very large and interesting thread about how they will make the game P2W. I don’t agree with all the points raised but people are (mostly) talking about it in a manner that is intelligent and discussing pros and cons. This is good feedback. This is what we should be doing when we like or dislike something.

However, flaming the forums with threads about something we were never promised in the first place and making a huge mess for Julie and the rest of the staff to clean up is ridiculous.

She can’t tell us if no one in the higher chain of command has made a decision. If they are still debating it they are debating it and we won’t know anything until they decide. It’s something that was unplanned for this point in the release of the game, but they are still considering trying to meet the demand.

Which is great, and a smart business move but there are a lot of factors to consider for something like this. They had planned for a three month early access because they wanted us to get the value of our money spent and that is written in the explanation on the post from earlier this week about why.

They cannot break legal agreements with the countries that have IP blocks–because contracts between publishers and developers are legally binding, to bring access to your country if you already have a publisher.

Yes, of course this sucks. I understand you want to play. I get it. I want to play just as much as anyone else does.

Why an EST server? Why no one on each coast? Why not one in several countries? Why why why? Because it takes money. Because they aren’t sure about the stability of the client and servers. Because EST provides a central location so that there’s a chance more people can play with less trouble. Because it was the most cost effective. Any of these reasons could be correct, maybe none of them are. We are not the company, we do not know why they made these choices and honestly, they have no responsibility to tell us. It’s nice if they do, don’t get me wrong. Just because I’m close to the server doesn’t mean I don’t feel bad for players who aren’t.

People keep making broad statements that fan the flames of the community. We have a responsibility to monitor ourselves and act like the adults that most of us are.

It’s not IMC’s fault if you:

  • didn’t read the EULA
  • didn’t read the full descriptions on the Steam page
  • didn’t read the forum guidelines
  • didn’t read the announcements
  • didn’t take time to do any research about whether a screenshot of a supposed conversation is real or not
  • didn’t bother to listen to community members who have opposing views just because you didn’t like them
  • didn’t read posts from the Staff because TL;DR

Those sort of things, and many others, are YOUR responsibility.

Are you sure we’re even talking about the same thing here?

I wasn’t responding to your specific posts, but the comments I’ve seen in general in this thread as well as the others on this very topic over the past 24 hours or so. Throwing my opinion in just as everyone else has.

Fair enough but are we really flaming? Sure I admit perhaps over dramatic but never inflammatory. I highly disagree that we’re also “making a mess”. Very insulting towards the people who simply want what’s best for the game and its’ fanbase.

I agree with all of your points, but there are NO information about server locations on DLC page.

All important information stated is:

[IMPORTANT]

  • This is an Exclusive Access pass for the Founder’s Server for Tree of Savior which will be Free to Play after one month.
  • You do not need to purchase this in order to play the game after the one month period.
  • This product is comprised entirely of in-game content. There will be no separate downloadable contents.
  • Services Schedule
  1. Founder’s Server Open : Tuesday, March 29, 2016 02:00 AM (EST)
  2. Free to Play Server : Thursday, April 28, 2016 (EST)

[Contents]
The Founder’s Server : Exclusive Access 1 includes the following:

It should at least be included in this important list to avoid negative reviews on Steam.

Also this information is pretty hard to notice, it should be more clear. There were like 98% at first hours and now it’s only 83%, because people complain about being unable to play mostly.

And what happens when they discover that they don’t have EU server and can only play with 200+ ping? I think it will really hurt IMC sales in the end and they will lose A LOT of money lowering possibility of EU server open.

International servers shouldn’t be focused in one part of the world from the start, but if they are, there SHOULD be an eye-catching announcement about this on the DLC page, if IMC want to save their good reputation. Community hates, when information is “hidden”.

I’e personally bought all 3 packs because there were an announcement about EU servers. Meaning they know the problem exists and they will try to solve it. So I spent my money to encourage IMC making EU server basing on number of purchases from Europe. If the problem exists, it SHOULD be solved one way or another, that’s why I believe in IMC and bought the packs. I will refunf them only if they deny European community and state there will be no EU server.

Talking about the cheapest and easiest solution, I offered IMC in one of my topics to mark one of the servers as EU and then transfer it’s whole data to a new server located in Europe. Old server can be used to open a free server in USA later. Data transferring is not that expensive and they won’t need to hurry with new server installation if they reserve one of the existing servers for EU players. This way most of the EU players like me would be satisfied because we won’t lose our progress when EU server will be ready. I don’t think playing 2 months with 200+ ping will hurt too much.

The same goes to SEA and West Coast servers, if IMC have enough machines and wants to expand in the future, then reserving 3 or more servers for transfer according to % of players from each region is not a big problem and won’t cost too much to solve.

Overall I agree that people should read carefully, I myself read every single bit of information regarding the game launch and still decided to buy all 3 packs.

But IMC shouldn’t rely on people like me or you too much. Majority just wants to buy game, download it, click play and enjoy the game. So if they can’t do it, they become angry and write negative reviews. So if IMC wants to succesfuly sell their game, they need to satisfy the majority, or at least clarify, why they have problems and when these problems’d be solved.

Having multiple threads on the same topic is making a mess. The opinions aren’t but multiple threads are. I’m sure you’ve seen how many there are spread out over the forums this week alone all about the same thing. It’s much more effective to have on post with a LOT of responses. It shows exactly how many people are upset about something and makes it easier for the moderators to find the posts to respond to. I speak from personal experience as a forum moderator for fan sites over the years, and as someone who has worked as customer support before as well. It’s very frustrating and confusing when you have multiple threads on the same thing over and over. Julie has, repeatedly, asked people not to do this as well.

And yes, some of it is flaming. “IMC SHOULD DIE” is not really something any player should be using as a thread title, but that on was removed fairly quickly at least. Have you read the comments over on steam as well? It’s getting pretty ridiculous and mostly is related to people not taking the time to actually read information. The hype levels and intensity of people’s responses show how passionate they are about the game but it has been going too far quite a bit lately. There was another user threatening to do DDOS attacks because of the date changes.

This is by far the best thing that should happen if they can’t open a server in EU in such a short time span. I’m sure they can open an additional server prior to release date and simply tag it. This is what came up in almost every thread that talked about EU servers and I don’t think it’s in any way asking too much as a paying customer / potential buyer of a 55 dollar purchase (we euros pay more with our currency).

Couldn’t agree more.

I don’t think I saw posts like that, it was mostly very civil. You’re putting everyone in the same basket though and judging everyone based on a few bad apples.

Totally agree on this one but sadly you can’t address it to everyone, majority of people can’t learn to use forums.

That’s why the best way is ignoring topics with few number of responses, unless topic name catches your attention.

And there always are evil or simply angry people talking trash, forcing their opinion, spouting hate, verbally abusing, being racist, etc. Sadly it’s impossible to solve this problems with such a low number of moderators. IMC kind of overworks their staff if they expect them to moderate the whole forum with only 3 or 4 members.

They need at least 1 moderator per every active category.

I totally agree. I feel sorry for Julie tbh, there were a lot of complaints over the past few days about the timeliness of responses… she’s the most active staff member and I think it’s easy to forget too that a good chunk of the team is on the opposite sleeping cycle many of us are.

It’s true, I can’t get it out to everyone. I think, and it’s just my opinion, a lot of us who are happy with how things are handled tend to be way less vocal. Which makes sense.

The game is a great little game with the potential to really grow–I mean look at the steam sales. It’s understandable that people have short tempers or are disappointed… but some of the responses have gotten out of hand. I had someone demand to see pictures of me or they would continue to harass and flag me. Needless to say I reported it.

I’m in the same boat with you on that for the most part. It would have made things a little less tense if they had put up that information in a more visible location for Steam.

I saw that suggestion of yours about for the EU server. I think it’s a great one. I don’t know much about server transfers/merging but I do know they take most companies some time… but I think it would be a great way to solve the current issues and please the majority of players while still maintaining the current infrastructure on the servers/user database. While I love playing on international servers with people from all over, this game is pretty reliant on having a good connection and a balanced population (cb2 was a nightmare at times due to the population density).

And no, IMC can’t rely on users like you and I. I’ve seen your posts across several threads and you’re always thoughtful about what you have to say. But one thing I was really happy to see is that the staff seems to treat us as if we have all been reasonable and thoughtful. There’s not been anything but unfailingly polite and understanding responses posted here. They’ve been so much more transparent that many other gaming companies especially in the F2P market. I really appreciate that because it’s often lacking.

That’s all I wanted to know. Waiting for this to be decided… Not too keen on starting over when/if (they will…) EU servers go online.

Maybe waiting is for the best, now I might get time to read some early reviews.

No aggro, i’m just supporting you guys so that you can lock on your own server, oh look you have a pal here . Let’s just wait for more so we can urge IMC for your own server.
