The EXP rate is atrocious, and deals a heavy blow to the game

Grinding is fine for levels if it’s later in the game usually. The players have more options for both skills and areas, the monsters are stronger and more complex, and everyone understands the game better. The grind becomes an option for fun at that point.

Early game, as is happening now, it isn’t normally a good thing. Players feel pidgeon holed into one area and restrained from progression.

They can make it grindy in the higher levels, but when people are struggling to even hit level 30 (out of hundreds of levels), it’s not going to engender positive feelings towards the game.

well im finally out of quest at lvl 28 or should i say i cant find any atm ill be looking around and see wat i get

Thats why I said harder levels are 85-99. Are you just nitpicking from what i said? Lol. Truth is, in RO, getting to 2nd class was easy with: thief, archer, mage and aco. Merch and swordie kinda struggled. But any of em could be done in less than 2 weeks.

70 in a day and 90 in 3 or less was super easy. This was before turn ins. You take an archer or mage class and warp to Einbroch. You then go 2 maps south, one map east, and then north I beleive. There you will find metalings and geos. This map is special because you have these bushes that you can shoot over that block the metalings from getting to you. Once properly done so that they lose sight of you after drawing them behind the bush and running to the other side, it’s shoot them all day without them aggroing you. Once you are high enough levels to do some damage to geos you buy some fire arrows at einbech and farm geos to 70 or even 99 if you want. That is how you get 70 in a day.

We don’t need more quests, we need fun grind.

I played from 5am to 3am on the first day, with the only breaks being to eat, and I made to level 40. 40/200 or 250… I don’t know what to say, this is sadistic. Please increase the rates.

I feel like some people didn’t got the point that the concerns are for the exp rate of a-one-week-closed-beta with character wipe at the end, not for the exp rate itself. Yes it’s grindy and you can like it or not, but not the point. How we can test bugs, game and class balance in a week if no one reaches the cap…

Not just for the beta, its even WORSE for the better, but for the full release this is beyond bad.

90% of people will get turned away. The 10% that are left, 5% of them aren’t going to get far. The other 2% wil be botters, the remaining 3% will be grinding 24/7 to hit their next job advancement within a few years. >m> That’s not good.

Grind THIS bad is reserved for higher levels, not straight out of the gate, and we shouldn’t be forced to grind on monsters 10 over our level, before we have any of our skills. There are 600 levels at release. There’s more then enough room to move the grind farther down the line.

Grind isn’t bad. Grind this early at this rate, is bad.

Wasn’t this game designed to be extra grindy?

73 exp per kill for 125k exp required lvl 45-46 out of 200. Yea… try and defend that xD

That’s only 1700 kills. Gets to work!

lol, jk. I retract what i said yesterday. After the first 22 levels or so, the xp drops off drastically and it’s not fun.

The issue with the exp rate is very messy to me. I had a hard time trying to say what i felt about it heh. The exp cards that you get from quests aren’t bad exp. They give a good chunk. It’s like they made the levels for the monsters too high, and/or the exp from the monsters aren’t gonna carry you to the level needed as quickly as doing quests. Maybe the devs wanted players to level up on monsters in their level range more frequently. But I think players would rather just use quests because they get a decent amount of exp faster.

It’s interesting though. I have seen players say they don’t like doing quests (the majority of MMOs now are quest based), they just want to level up and go as they please without an npc telling them where to go. I have also seen players say the game is too grindy and requires you to kill monsters for too long (so many older mmos were like this, have you played RO??!) Personally, I enjoy doing the quests in this game. The voodoo doll quests be it weird were kinda interesting. I’d also like to venture around, leveling up on monsters in different areas also. Naturally, you’d expect a quest to give more exp. If the exp rate of the monsters are too high, then would the quests be of much use? @_@ this boggles my mind lol.

And I feel like you didn’t get the point that this exp rate is not ok for long term lol.

How can we find bugs, when we cant get to the content?

I found plenty very early in the game, being stuck in the sky only able to jump, pets being under the ground or not attacking at all, bosses not moving or doing anything at all, experience requirement for level bugged, etc, etc, most people really just want to be able to play and try out their builds.

The grind would be ok if it were actually fun. I play as an archer circle 2, and the more I level, the more I realize that fighting as an archer isn’t satisfying… I’ll elaborate in my own feedback thread at the end of beta, but there’s no sense of accomplishment when leveling up (minuscule stat improvements), and the skills don’t feel significant enough… I know we’re avoiding comparisons to RO, but double strafe felt really good in RO - comparably, multi-shot doesn’t (maybe it’s an animation and soundfx issue, but those components add to the enjoyment of the fight/grind). Most of this is probably by design, if the level caps are 200 or 500 or whatever huge number, each level will have marginal power gains, and we need all those levels due to the class advancement structure. Another issue is lack of an attack speed stat… whether I’m level 1 or 200, my normal attack will still feel sluggish and I can’t change that, it’s unfortunate. Because of this I need to rely on skills, but run out of SP so fast, am I really supposed to stack Spirit as an archer??..

tl:dr - the combat needs to be more fun (at least as an archer)

The Korean version has a much better progression speed, you can just do all the quests in the maps the main quest take you and be around the right levels and sometimes you have to grind a bit but nothing like 3-4 hours of grind for now, at this point I’m 116, they will most likely increase the rates in the next international betas, considering the max level might be quite high since it’s over 250 the speed of leveling at those rates is decent and will most likely keep going slower over time, the Korean beta feels quite nicely paced.

Outside of the grind being a bit too harsh, i think more variety in term of mobs walking speed and maximum leash range should be studied.
Most of the mob in this game walk far too slowly and they don’t follow you really far, which pretty much result in the best grinding spot being fast spawn rate areas and that’s it.
It would be nice if it was possible to leash fast walking mob from far away with several pullers and kill them at the leveling spot.

It would also be good to have more sturdy and powerful mob with a good enough population for risky leveling instead of those two mass grinding method.

tldr: I think the games need more variety in how you approach your grinding.

And what is your kind? I played RO for 10 years. Ro was one of the easiest MMOs I’ve ever played lol.

I would be fine with the exp rate as it is, only when there is more diversity to the game. As some people pointed out, the exp rate is slow, similar (or maybe faster) to classical RO. However, in RO there was diversity that at least allowed you to do other things, or level in different/seperate areas with different strategies. It also allowed for more exploration of the game and had a greater socializing aspect IMO. In ToS there is no such diversity. Sooner or later you have to grind within the same area (or previous or next area) as every other person using the same strategy.

One more point. I never understand why there is such a leveling rush mentality. Sure, reaching max level is one of the aspects of the game, but this would just mean that people rush to the end and then what? Or maybe apart from leveling does the game have nothing else to offer?
