You waited until the first update gives an error?
Here’s what fixed it for me (verifying game etc didn’t work)
Open task manager and kill tos.exe
Go to your steam folder then to steamapps/common/TreeOfSavior/release/patch
If you see two files, one named “tos.exe” and one named “tos.exe.temp”
Delete the “tos.exe” file and rename “tos.exe.temp” to “tos.exe”
Most likely your antivirus is preventing the patcher from doing this operation.
Relaunch game, enjoy.
Verify local files even if not using addons
the first error is jndehesus29 originally posted:
sadly that didn’t fix my Problem with it, glad that it fixed yours though.
By the way easy boys… and girls…
I’m not sure if I changed this one time, or if it’s set to this by default.
But people might want to try going to their ToS folder:
**\Steam\SteamApps\common\TreeOfSavior\release
Rightclick -> Properties? -> Compatibility?
for
- Client_tos.exe
and - patch/tos.exe
and add the checkmark for run as administrator.
(sorry only got the screenshot in german)
But this could help.
verifying will result in the first error and my screenshot
Alternatively just disable your antivirus prior to patching. Should do the trick too.
SOLUTION:
-
Turn off your antivirus program.
-
Remove tos_client.exe from quarantined file list.
-
Add tos_client.exe as safe program, avoid getting quarantined again.
I turned off my antivirus and everything patched smoothly :).
Avira and Comodo didn’t cause any issues for me.
Other softwares might though.
i have no antivirus and i still get that weird characters popup box
one time, or repeatedly?
We probably got it all one time.
I only had this once let it do whatlever, clicked the ok box and everything started normal after i launched it again.
I am also using that one guys add on and that other quest add on, so it’s no those.
I have no antivirus in my system, heck I even have windows defender disabled as well.
Hnm try it.
Delete any Client_tos from steam\steamapps\common\TreeOfSavior\release
verify and cross fingers.
Hi. I just disabled my anti-virus Auto Protect, Smart Firewall, and Activated Silent Mode. Maybe this patch has virus. I should welcome virus now. Going to delete my anti-virus then. ToS is on!
Thank you sir, this one worked for me. Chosen as solution and edited 1st post to add some sort of disclaimer.
