Yeah if your ping is good enough and you’re playing fencer frenzy really isn’t worth the time it takes to stack with auto attacks when you could just be using a 0 cd skill instead. My limited testing (with barb 3) makes it seem like it’s worth stacking it up to 5. 10 is too long and results in a DPS loss. 5 is more DPS, but it’s only marginally better. Like hardly any difference at all when you take the charge up time in to consideration. A single stack (just casting) is alright too because you don’t have to put any extra effort in to it.
This is something I’ve always wondered in general about skills where you have to charge it up strictly for damage – if the wind up time past level 1 is worth waiting. For example, cartar stroke and dragon tooth. Of course it’s worth it if you get something more than just damage out of it (like multishot) but I’m leaning towards the charge time for skills in general just results in overall DPS loss.
