I’ll say it’s not worth it then. I think going fencer 1 without going fencer 2 unless you have bad ping sucks. Double earn pay is pretty cool and mordschlag is fun to use but from a combat perspective they don’t do much so I’ll focus on exactly what you said – deeds of valor and cyclone.
I hate cyclone. I think it’s a bad skill. The cooldown is very long, and if you get pushed back ever so slightly the skill gets completely cancelled. I quit doppel->dragoon for fencer 2 mostly because of my frustration with cyclone (and other skill) cancels.
I’d say this kind of decision heavily depends on your stat choice as well. I don’t remember if a dodge gives deeds of valor stacks, but if it doesn’t then deeds of valor will be, well, pretty hard to stack. However, if you are a high str build then you’re much more vulnerable to cyclone getting cancelled. And if you aren’t full strength, you won’t benefit from deeds of valor as much. I think these two skills conflict with each other with that being said.
Typically, your max damage will be relatively low as a fencer due to you (eventually) using a venier. This will in an end game scenario put you at somewhere around 700 max with a dex build and 1-1.1k max with a strength build. This is around +350 max for the dex build, and +500 for the strength build with max deeds of valor.
But is that much max worth it? The attack speed really doesn’t serve much purpose for fencer due to 0 cd skills, so I won’t bother with that. -50% def is actually a LOT and should be conisdered as well. There’s something weird going on with def vs monsters, and it’s not as simple as gaining 1 def = getting hit by 1 damage less. Again, mitigated with a high dex build, but then deeds of valor serves even less of a purpose if you go that route.
So how much dps does 350-500 max actually provide? Well, this is one reason why I favor dex over strength, because it isn’t much.
This is an end game (my) DPS calculation for some skill with no attribute:
Let’s add +350 max.
That’s somewhere around an 8% increase for however many seconds you have left after charging deeds of valor to max stacks with a 43 second cooldown and 23 second duration before you start getting stacks. It just doesn’t do much (especially for fencers).
So with fencer 2 you get attaque composee and preparation.
Preparation is alright. Honestly, I don’t like it very much because its uptime has weird synergy with the only skill it matters for - sept. However, it’s still an actual +50% damage increase.
Attaque Composee is an amazing skill. You just have to be able to take advantage of it. If you have good ping, it’s like having a skill that hits almost as fast as stabbing, but is twice as strong and has no cooldown.
Composee benefits from rapier aggression, so off the bat it has +15% damage at all times unless you use a shield. It also executes almost TWICE AS FAST as flanconnade.
SP consumption has never been an issue for me with this skill at level 5 (well, 7 with venier). SP can absolutely be managed while using 0 cd skills infinitely or almost infinitely. I don’t understand how some fencers can’t do this. The first step is to use the lv 10 alchemy potions. This shouldn’t be an issue because (well, in my server) the prices are always going down. Even when they were costly (1.3k? per potion) they’re still extremely worth it compared to the highest NPC pot which is a total ripoff.
