What is the most optimal Rifleman?

Hi there, I like long range class and love rifles, so I’m trying to find the most optimal musketeer build for clearing game content. Maybe you guys can give a good recommendation?

I’m thinking of any of these builds:

A) A2-QS3-Scout-Musk2
The idea of using auto attack musket sounds good but Running Shot doesn’t have 100% uptime and I don’t know if it’s a good idea to take QS3 for that. I think with this build I will not have much AoE capabilites for clearing mobs when doing quest. From what I know, this build was known as the machine gun build and now has become obsolete.

B) A2-Sap3-Scout-Musk2
A rifleman with traps, sounds nice in theory. They say sapper has good AoE capabilities, so maybe it will be useful.

C) A3-Wugushi3-Musk2
A Poisoned Rifle doesn’t make any sense. But from what I’ve read there are some who recommend this build. But this build lacks AoE.

D) A2-Sapper3-SR1-Musk2
A mounted Rifleman!!! This is just an idea that popped in my head at random moments. I don’t know whether Limacon works with Rifle, but if it works maybe it’s better than Running Shot because Limacon has long duration and can be enhanced. It’s not as good as SR3 of course, but using auto attack rifle with limacon as filler might be a good idea. Plus getting a mount can makes questing faster. This also has Sapper’s Aoe capabilites.

From what I understand, there are not that many musketeer here. Most people use pistol by going SR3 instead. But maybe there’s a way to optimize Musketeer for those who loves the gameplay of that class.

The build A works very well specially as boss murder machine, but if you want AoE it will need Falconer instead of Scout so Covering Fire hits everything or stack AAR.

The B is pretty balanced because Musketeer is great at single target and Sapper broom trap gives one of the best AoE of the game, bonus points for gaining a flying buster with detonation.

The C is what I’m using right now is not bad in AoE but not great at it either, Covering Fire spread Wugong Gu really well and the pot gives a really good damage in AoE.

D just don’t work, any Musketeer and Sapper skill will dismount you and Limacon is only for pistol, maybe could work if you want to invest in a good pistol too and only use it for retreat shot.

So the old machine gun build still works today, huh? Is running shot still good for end game mobs?

I thought that Limacon would work with musket because it doesn’t have any weapon requirements. This makes build D out of the plan. Which leaves Sapper and Wugushi.

In Musketeer skill tree, is Covering Fire the only good AoE skill? I’ve read some differences regarding this skill. Some say that Volley Fire is now better than Covering Fire.

The old machine gun still works, SR is just more popular because of 100% uptime and spread so people prefer that. And BM will shine too because of the cooldown instance.

Volley fire have some AAR so it will hit more things naturally but Covering Fire have more raw damage.

Don’t forget the safety 1st build. With sinper’s serenity making you unable to move, safety is gonna be a thing.

E) A2-Hu3-Sr1-Mu2
Lure while mounted to keep the pet from taking damage (and dieing cuz it does that a lot) and [growling] when you’re happy with lure size. You will auto dismount on [growling] but it won’t be an issue since rifle skills will dismount as well. Pewpew in general safety.

It will be similar to this

QS3 easiest on field, mobile.
Sapper3 best AoE.
Wugu3 easiest Boss damage.

I tried that back in reset event, but waiting on both the pet and mobs to get into position was just bad. Was like waiting for stars to align. Sr1 was such a huge QoL so long as I didn’t use any skills while luring.

Works amazing on cannon also.

Well, I’ve heard a few months ago that QS3 will become obsolete at later level. Because the mobs hp are high and the damage from RS auto attack can’t deal enough damage to defeat them fast.
In theory, lvl 5 Running Shot gives 200% additional damage and lvl 15 Limacon gives 190% additional damage (with lvl 70 attributes, it becomes 225%). So Limacon with lvl 70 attributes is 25% higher than lvl 5 Running Shot with better duration. 25% differences in damage is high but at least RS should still be usable at later level right? especially because musket has higher physical attack than pistol.

I’ve heard that Hunter’s pet AI is terrible. I don’t think I’m capable to handle that build.

I guess that leaves me with the old machine gun build or the rifleman with traps build.

That’s probably info before R8 and many of the game mechanics were reworked.

That’s what Sr1 is for. Riding allows you to “take out” the AI aspect of the build. Riding the pet gives you control on where the pet goes when you want it.

I won’t suggest the third one cause you’ll be troubling yourself mounting and unmounting your pet everytime you use your sapper traps. Another thing I want to point out is that the rank 7 archers, musketeer and cannoneer, have so much in their kit that its usually better to have earlier skills not interfere with them.

Musketeer in particular have rather low cooldowns on their skills, so you’d rather use them first other than your low ranked skills like running shot from qs3. I play a musketeer and my build is:

A2 > Sapper3 > Falc1 > Musk2

Some people do not like falcon, so you can replace it with scout as you stated above. Sappers offer a lot of skills that you can just drop and ignore, like stakes, broom traps for example.

Not to toot my own horn or whatever, but I wrote a guide about my musketeer:

Falcon is very good addition to Musket
One con is that you need Falcon Pet though, which discourages me from runing multiple falconers (as swaping falcon around is tedious and I did not find any auto swap pet mod yet)
It makes cover fire and snipe shot really powerfull.

What about A2>Sap3>Falcon>Musk2 ? or A3>Sco3>Musk2?

ah, my very first build. Split arrow is strong but cant be used with rifle, too much weapon swapping between useful skills

I don’t understand completely, but multiple falconers can use the same hawk just selecting the pet from the lodge.

That’s exactly what he doesn’t want to do.

But it’s the same as selecting a character. Instead of pressing directly on the char I select the pet and then i associate it with the char. I have a battlebird and i always want the HP/SP regen bonus, i do it everytime and it cost me just 2 clicks more

(Sorry for the little off-topic)

a2-sapper2-wugu2-musk 2 is good

The question is really what you want to do. Sapper provides AoE but its highest DPS skill is on a long cooldown. Musket skills also have fairly high CDs, so some kind of gap-filler is a good thing to have. This is also why, for PVE, I’d recommend QS3 or wugushi. You also don’t really need scout if you don’t plan on PVPing. It’s nice to have, but a largely wasted circle if you don’t plan on PVPing.

Well honestly, the only reason I choose Scout is for the extra movement speed. I bet it’s gonna be helpful on doing quest. But now that you mention it, perhaps extra AoE capabilities from falcon outweighs the benefit of extra movement speed.

I’m curious about what sapper3 and qs3 do. I guess I’ll make both to see which one is better. Well not really make both, more like make one and reset later (hoping for the reset rank event). I’ll start with QS3 first.

As for stat, from what I’ve learn it seems like more STR is better for musketter. Is that correct?
