Tree of Savior Forum

Unofficial F.A.Q

I am not related to IMC, just a well informed fan. There is a more full F.A.Q available here:
https://treeofsavior.com/FAQ

These are for questions not covered in there.

If you have a question you’d like added to the list please comment. If the answer is confirmed somewhere, I’ll add it.

1. Will we get a server for X region?

It is confirmed that the following regions have publishers already:
Japan and Korea - Nexon JP and KR, respectively.

China - ChangYou

If you would like this game to be released on steam in the above regions, you must contact the appropriate publisher, although it’s highly unlikely.

This version should be the international version as posted here (unless there was a change):

2. I’m from X region, won’t I have bad ping on an international server?

While this is an international version, IMC plans on using multiple servers in different areas to accommodate the most amount of players. The first test will more than likely be only one server as they use the testing phase to determine more locations. Quote:
Possible candidates are Amazon AWS and a few overseas service providers. We are looking for the most optimized solution so that we could secure stable Pings for all our fans. Furthermore, for our overseas fans to register securely and conveniently, we are currently developing a feature to register via Facebook and Google+ accounts. By the time when we are finished developing the feature, we think that we will be ready to open up the test server.

We think that one server location will not be enough to cover all territories, so after reviewing our first test results, it is very likely that we will decide on our 2nd server location.
3. Is Steam the publisher?
No. If greenlit, steam will act as a deployment platform for Tree of Savior. Basically they just distribute the game. IMCGames (unless there is another international publisher) handles all the publishing and marketing in this case as well as any other associated responsibilities.

4. Is this F2P, B2P, or P2P?

It is confirmed as a F2P game, unless they change their payment model on release, which is unlikely.

5. What is the current state of English translation?

IMC is very open and works with the community to provide a fast localization. Thus they have made the OTC (open text client). Some of it is being worked on here and is open to the public:

Once you are in-game you will have the chance to directly change translations simply with a keyboard+mouse shortcut.

Here it is in action:

This won’t be directly reflected to everyone on the server, but will help with an official translation.

In the future you will be able to translate the game to other languages besides English.

6. When will the game be released?

First there is going to be a beta. The beta is stated to be on schedule after the 2nd Korean Closed Beta and that just ended. Aside from that, there is no official release date.

7. What about GvG/PvP/WoE content?
We are not planning PK system which players can be engaged in PK anytime they want on the fields. However, we are planning some kind of Tournaments which will be held periodically.

Tournaments can be participated in both single and party mode and if you win a tournament, you will get to keep the trophy until the next tournament. We are also preparing large scale PvP contents which lots of users can participate together.
Aside from that there will be an arena system for 1v1/3v3 and soon 5v5. They are considering larger scale PvP including GvG. All this is not scheduled to be in the current beta’s and more towards release unless they change the schedule.

8. Is this just your average quest grind game?
We are preparing a large volume of quests, but except for a few main scenario quests, most of the quests will be non-mandatory quests which can be chosen by players. Therefore, ways to enjoy TOS can be diversified.

However, in [Adventure Journal], individual records of completion will be saved and each player will be able to do more and get more in the game based on the completion record so we recommend you complete as many quests as you can.
The adventure journal can be completed besides quests, and you get EXP for everything from exploring to crafting. It also boosts your rank up. You can also unlock hidden classes this way. So questing is not the only way to get exp.

Questing also only gives you Base Class EXP cards. You choose whether to use them or not, and they do not affect your job exp/levels.

9. What are the controls for this game?

ToS was designed around keyboard use. This means a majority of the game is through the keyboard. Arrow keys move the player, while certain letters on the keyboard allow you to use skills. Alt+Z allow you to switch weapons. The mouse is primarily only used for UI interaction.

Update: Mouse Control is incoming:

10. What about controller support?

ToS natively supports controllers. To see how it works in game, here is a video (58 second mark):

11. Can we play this on Mac?

Yes. It’s possible if you install boot camp. The developers are not creating a direct Mac version from what it seems, their official response is to use boot camp.

12. Is this the real Ragnarok 2?

No. This is a spiritual successor as claimed by its fans. But the developers have made it clear, that although there are similarities, Tree of Savior is it’s own game. There are many differences, and they are trying not to be the same but something of its own. When playing, please do not compare it to Ragnarok, and see it as it’s own game.

13. What about founder packs? Will there be any?

There is no info yet on if there will be founder packs.

14. Will steamworks be available for ToS?

No info on that yet.

15. Will there be dedicated channels for different regions?

There has been no confirmation or mention of this yet. Currently the plan is to have one test server for CBT 1. After they gather the data from the first test, another server location will be chosen for the optimal international experience. These plans can change, this is only what was stated on the official blog.

16. Where can I find more information about the game?

There are various places:
Official Blog - http://blog.treeofsavior.com/en/
Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/treeofsavior
Reddit - http://www.reddit.com/r/treeofsavior
And numerous fan sites.

17. Is there a database for this game yet?

One is in the works here:

Keep in mind it is still being improved upon and contains data from KR CBT 2.

18. Is there a skill builder/class builder?

Skill builder:

Class builder:

Keep in mind it is still being improved upon and contains data from KR CBT 2.

19. Is there a world map preview

Yes there is, thanks to ToS Base:

20. Can I help with the English translation?

ToS base has created a simpler localization tool for the time being until we can get our hands on the OTC client and see the game for yourself.

This is a great way to edit any missing text, and you can help by refining current translations or using machine translations to offer some smart translations.

Check it out here:

21. Where do I signup for CBT?

Login to the main page, and click Beta Key on the top right!

Good topic, Fate! Thanks for helping new members.

I still love the mac question the most, its basically politic correct answer for “no, we dont support mac”, just giving you a workaround. its not a big problem for me, bit sad, but will happily play it on windows too.

I remember the rumors about for ToS work on mobiles, then, I hope there possibility to play on other platforms.

(Sorry for my poor english)
