The Secret Of Kateen Forest

Kateen Forest has incompleted secrets that have yet to be discussed at much length here on the forums. The best I’ve been able to discover are some old necrod threads with some minor references and discussion but nothing of much weight or value.

I believe that the Sleeping Owl statue in this forest can be awoken and the ghosts here can be sent on their way to the next world, for a tasty reward of some sort.

So, I’ve been searching the place, today I’ve spent 14 hours on the map and I’ve got a hidden NPC to show off. Screenshots of NPC location and NPC text.

I do not know the circumstances to cause this NPC to spawn, but they are not usually at this location and are not marked on any of the mapping sites including https://tos.neet.tv/zones/1081

Unfortunately this is as far as I’ve gotten. I have been unable to discover anything further hidden.

There are some interesting elements of the map that I believe are notable. Multiple NPCs on the map talk about the forest being dark and one in particular mentions that the Owl statue looks sad due to the darkness. There are also unlit candles all over the map with a bulletin notice board that warns people not to blow out the candles as they guide the spirits.

Part of me thinks that there’s a trigger that has something to do with light/fire.

I’ve tried bonfires, both at the Owl and npc location, as well as the candles. There are 4-6 candles between the notice and the Owl that lead me to believe it might require a group effort to place a bonfire at every unlit candle location along the path. This I believe is at least worth trying out.

I wanted to share this information in the hope that we can push whatever secret this location has further. At the very least a hidden NPC with an unknown trigger indicates that there is more to be discovered here that the community has not yet found.

Help me.

That’s odd… if I’m not mistaken, I saw this NPC, but he was on a completely diferent location.

He was on the left side of the map, near the bonfire boss. I’m pretty sure he’'s the same guy. But today, I did a party quest on this map, nothing related to this puzzle, and I walked around the whole map, but, this time, I didn’t find him in any place. He’s like a ghost.

I’m going to join in your investigation

I’m planning to check kateen forest entrance every time I log into the game. Also, I’ll try to always check the tower at orsha when I go to that town. If I find something, I’ll print and post here.

I think I’ll also create a topic about this on brazilian community forum. I’m from silute server btw

Let’s solve this! :+1:

The NPC has a few possible spawns.

I’m still currently investigating possibilities, particularly with the korean map pointing towards a broken horn that is supposed to spawn in Orsha. I have a korean speaker that’s attempting to contact the maker of that map as Korean forum posts related to the map are all questions about whether it spawns or not.

I consider all possible leads to be worth tracing at this point as there appears to be NO confirmation about the validity of the map, either from english or korean users. It’s quite possibly false information.

If anyone tries or tests things please post them, ruling out things that fail to provide an outcome is also beneficial to others finding the thread and searching for themselves.

I checked that spot in Orsha few times but I found nothing there. I’m not actually trusting toscamp’s information. On CBT2 I remember I saw those guys surrounding that sleeping owl, but on that time, Orsha haven’t been implemented yet.

Today, I found Troubadour. The dialog is the same as the screenshot you posted here.

Also, I talked many times with “Dievdirby Master”. Seems he is the person who made those statues, but he didn’t give any clue about this “secret”.

Do you have the dialog indicating he is the one that made all the statues? I’d be very interested in seeing it.

Uh oh…my biggest secrets about to get leaked D;

Contribute or go elsewhere. Nobody cares about people that lie about knowing something, it just makes them look silly and annoys people that have to sift through junk forum posts or get phone notifications for rubbish like that.

EDIT: OOoohh I must have been super grumpy the day I wrote this post. - 2 months later.

Sure. Even it’s probably not related to the quest, it’s a pretty decent lore material

Diev Master [CLICK HERE]

This guy, Sculptor Tesla, is actually an amazing person. Too bad there’s almost no quest about him.

And this forum needs an oficial lore thread. ToS has lots of cool lore stuff to be investigated and shared.

@Awoooo

I forgot to mention… I upload by mistake the 3rd picture about dievdirby master. It has nothing to do about the owls.

It’s related to the place where you have to reach to achiev 100% at West Siauliai Woods. I have so many screenshots about relevant stuff I find in this game that I’m having trouble to organize them xD

But I’m not removing that picture since it helps at proving he is an ancient person.

Some additions to established theories, but from the deeper forest map “Owl Burial Ground”.

Firstly, this is possible on that map:

Method to achieve this? Unknown. None of the candles on the map are normally lit though, and certainly aren’t green. I think it adds credence to the idea that the souls on Kateen Forest map can’t use the Owl because they lack the guidance of the candles. Maybe.

I also would like to know what the purpose of this stone slab is:

I did a run through the map just now hitting every quest on a newer char. It seems to be unused in any visible quests. If anyone knows what it’s linked to then crossing it off my list of theories would be nice.

it is similar tho other offer stones like fedimian suburbs. You can offer mats to it, dunno why.
There it asks for fishing rod.

Ah… I’ve looked into this too back then. After countless of hours I’ve decided to browse inven.co.kr and I found out they assume it’s for Pied Piper or just a hidden NPC.

But there’s this feeling that there’s still more to it especially with this and the candles. I’ll probably get back to this on my free time because unveiling IMC’s hidden stuff is something.

Did you ever see anything in your travels over on Inven that even suggests that horn exists? Everything I ever found with the help of Korean speakers on Inven was just Korean asking if anyone had ever found it or whether it actually existed.

We contacted the map maker and received no response regarding it.

Not sure if it’s a false lead as there doesn’t seem to be any evidence it exists at all except for that map, and the map makers themselves aren’t available to explain how they decided that Troubadour was linked to an item that seemingly has never spawned for anyone ever.

Something seems a bit off with the information about the item in Orsha to be honest, unless something corroborating it shows up I feel like it’s unreliable. Though that musical theory fits, the screenshots of lit candles seem really compelling with the NPCs that talk about candles lighting the way for spirits.

About the Stone Slab, on iCBT it gave some kind of buff if I’m not mistaken but only once I was able to get it and I don’t remember what I did so it would work. :disappointed:

Let me join the fun cause i do find this strange too

Hrm… unfortunately that’s all what I found in inven too. People asking if it exists then some asking where they got the info etc.

Though I’ve seen some people talk about the chests found in the database of Orsha and speculates that it might contain the horn, if it even existed. It’s really just weird that nobody has gotten the horn despite being camped to the point it looks like it’s harder than the Shinobi flower or the Thurisaz Rune.

This could be one of the chests but it’s probably used for a quest or anything for all we know.

@Awoooo Hi, i think this is related to a quest or hidden quest ( not sure though if its *hidden, i just followed some guide on the net) and can be done on STORAGE QUARTER (MAP LVL 211) almost all you said on your thread is related (on my opinion) on that quest. I have posted screen shots to share and for you to review it. Remember to talk to all NPC’s (therefore going back to Deivdirby’s Master on West Siauliai Woods) to activate this quest.

I hope this will/can help on your theory about the candles and owl statues and sculptures.

these are the candles that shouldnt be blown off, i dont have any effects when playing… just imajine it lighted haha!

here i just finished guiding lost spirits on this owl sculpture…

@Awoooo ,

I forgot to mention , the quest has something to do with the spirits roaming around this map that is linked or cant find its way home (OWL’s BURIAL GROUND) anyways to sum it all i think this is only “a part” of the hidden quest because there’s still a puzzle unsolved on the owls burial map that requires explanation (something on a cave and a stone slab?? i forgot) hahaha! well i hope you got what i mean…

That’s interesting. Hrrm.

I think camping/chasing possible spawns is not going to be a good way to use time.

For now the most obvious lead for people to be trying is methods to light the candles as we can see that somehow it’s possible. There may also be information on how that’s done on the various ktos forums too, I haven’t had someone able to look since the image with lit candles was brought to my attention.

Given that one of the guards on the Kateen Forest map talks about the candles being required to guide souls, and the sign also saying not to blow them out, there’s a lot of hints.

Also potentially of value here is the origin of the Owls themselves. Another guard brings up that they’re all carved by one man - the Dievdirby Master screenshotted above in @its4r0only’s post. He may be linked to something regarding waking up the sleeping Owl in some way. Unfortunately there may be other triggers necessary to getting any info/special occurrence to happen with him first.

I don’t think these NPCs and backstories were created purely for lore or story-flavour.

If anyone has seen anything else that could cross over or coincide with Owls or any of these things, all possibilities are worth getting listed here so that others with ideas might also bring them up. One area of the game I’m lacking in is the extra-text you can read on many quests, I’ve not read 90% of them throughout the game and I get a feeling some may have hints within them. If there’s a resource anywhere for reading NPC speech that could be useful to us to run searches through.

EDIT: Apparently or speech can be read and searched using notepad++ in this folder.

\release\languageData\English

Open all of them into notepad++ at the same time and use ctrl+f searches to search all documents at once.

It may turn something up. Unfortunately nothing on Sleeping Owl right now, but I noticed that the Troubadour NPC doesn’t use the same name for his speech, instead he uses “wandering bard”. This may be the same for other NPCs.

If anything does exist it’s hiding in those files somewhere.
