The hype train has been derailed

(For a quick read just check the numbered areas and bolds)

For strictly general feedback purposes,

I’d have to say back when I** first saw even just screenshots of this game I was jaw dropped** . As time past and I saw more and more my excitement shot thru the roof.

After playing the closed beta, I have to say I was almost disappointed in every way. Bugs and lag and exploits aside. The game was just super boring.AI was really slow and dumb. Overall** class progression was slow** and unrewarding. Some classes were super op others felt like a waste of space.

Without being to long winded. I went from following tos religiously to basically not wanting to play at within 1 month…

If the following goes unadjusted I will not be playing tos at launch. Potentially at all

  1. Game difficulty needs to be adjusted. And by adjusted I absolutely DO NOT mean turn stats down and hp up. I mean make AI smarter. Make the bosses do more . Make events more then just waves of enemies spawning.

  2. Figure out your cash shop options… Reviving for actual money is dumb. Paying to use the ah temporarily is super dumb. Just pick one… Cosmetic only and f2p . Or cosmetic only p2p. Or cosmetic only and monthly sub.

  3. Add a shared bank for the love of God

  4. Remove arde dagger.… When it becomes more beneficial for 2 handed class to use a 1h and a dagger things are wrong… Just saying

  5. Add quest icons back to mini map If people want to explore… Explore… If u don’t … Don’t… But removing icons limits us to missing content at** no additional gain.**

  6. Take out jumping or fix enemy pathing. Rather your doing it on purpose or on accident . Odds are u glitch bosses or enemies by standing on top of them or on top of terrain** becoming untargetable**. Jumping is cool… Standing on rocks to be invincible is not.

  7. Related to AI . But change boss monsters attack speed .or something … It’s really annoying that bosses are so readable. Boss uses a skill. After casting complete . 3 seconds … Uses another skill. Rinse repeat … After 5-6 skills… Spawns traps… Makes any boss suupperr easy let alone almost all of their abilities have huge cast times.

  8. Add more interim gear levels . It would be nice get new gear every 20ish levels especially at higher levels . Going 30-50 base levels not getting anything new is rather stale.

I could go on and on and on about things that kinda suck from a design aspect…… But I’ll stop as is. This isn’t a whine fest thread where I’m QQing for attention just posting general feedback where it’s appropriate .

As a whole these issues among others make the game just not fun to play…. With so many other games to pick from the only reasons to play tos is the art style and amazing bgm and unfortunately those aren’t enough by themselves

Thanks

Another whine thread. I’m not siding on the game its just, you have listed all things you only want and not for the betterment of the game. I have read many feedbacks from the other players and some of them are invaluable. Some of your whine has a cost implications on the game and its not for the better. If you dont know the cost implications of your suggentions then dont make a lousy feedback. This is not ratemyserver.

But… He said it isn’t, right?

Edit: Srsly, of course feedback comes from a point of view and that guys threat to quit TOS before it even started is a bit too much, but he has a right to post this here.

The best way to stop improvement is to treat every feedback that doesn’t praise the game as a whine thread.

Liked most points, but this one is really good, since getting new equip should be a sensation and a reward for the player and it doesn’t feel like that at the moment. Grinding lv 120 to lv 175 with the same set of gear makes it kinda mandatory to get the “new” equip at level 175. In that case one would use the market and just buy the best set right away. It does not feel like a reward this way and there is no sensation when getting a new weapon dropped that you can equip after getting 2 more levels.

Pretty much all of these are very good points. It’s hard to criticize a game while being constructive, but I think OP does a good job of explaining the problems and why they’re problems.

ok feedback i guess, but #5. you probably won’t play then

release this game at 17th in KR is kinda early. And it will fail if it’s not have much improvement from the kr CBT (which have more update than iCBT2)

Pretty sure at this point, everything has had more updates than icbt.

this I don’t quite agree

I pretty much posted the exact same not long ago.
You are not alone.

I don’t really understand your logic with “cost implications”. Literally everything is a cost implication. The game not being for sale right now this minute is a cost implication.

I get your trying to come off smart but your not really pulling it off sorry. If you feel I’m Whining that’s your own opinion and I value it. Again this post is for the creators with hundreds of thousands of beta testers played the game so far… And only a couple thousand actually doing the survey they sent out. I’m willing to help anyway I can with feedback. Rather it be the direction you want or they want or not. Feedback is feedback.

It’s not really up to you to argue if it’s for he betterment of the game because your opinions are different then mine. There’s a counter to every design choice or change. Maybe some do want the game easier. Maybe some want it harder. Their not gonna please everyone.

The point of feedback is to gauge the communities wants and needs. Weigh the options and make a educated decision.

There is absolutely nothing cost effective of releasing a video game up until the point it comes out and flops or doesn’t.

Thanks

they should have a toggle for hide minimap quest markers or something. I honestly dont want to explore. This game doesnt reward or entice exploration. I just wanna finish my quest and level up.

The dev team has mentioned in multiple ocasions they want you to explore, the game may seem linear from our last beta but they are working hard to make it so you have a lot to explore anyways to a degree, this is why there’s no quest markers, this is why there are secret classes and quests. They have made it very clear that their final objective is to be more than a ‘‘Get to max level and be very strong’’ game.
The fact that they try to put as many functions in hands of the players is another show of how they want the game to be more centered around interacting with the comunity than being a no-life PvPer (No this is not directed at you I’m just giving an example because boy are there a lot of these), heck even switching a character’s gender is a skill a class has for ■■■■■ sake.

This game has a long road with many bumps and holes conformed by bugs, balance issues and Nexon being a bunch of money hungry fools which hurts the image of the game internatially to poeple who don’t know how being under a publisher works.

I dont want to explore

This is not another “do the quest then gtfo this area”. You want everything marked? There are a lot of ‘cute’ games with every npc marked in which you have to press just 2 buttons to do things…
This game has a lot of features, being a scout on the map is one. Treasure box, strange quests, all those are part of the game.

Reviving for actual money is dumb

Why? Is not that bad. Is not going make the game p2w or anything. Did you play the game? To revive more than 1-2 times in one boss is really dumb.

This game is fun, the design, as you imply otherwise, is beautiful. There are many thing to change and they’ve said so.

You are just qqing for attention. You’re implying basically that everything in this game is wrong and no fun.

I agree. Leave the quests hidden. It is your choice to not explore an area completely. It is rewarding for someone who does take the time to explore. I think it is completely dull to be hand lead to every quest. why not add auto pathing at this point so you don’t have to run to the location either. I think it was the right call to make the quests hidden. Just slow things down a bit and explore. It’s not always about popping out 20 level per hour.

Is not about the lag and bugs, that was to be expected, but your points about improve AI, Game dificulty, Cash options, shared bank, and interim gear levels. Totally agree.

The current 40-75-120-etc wall levels for equips is dumb, it takes out the “surprise” factor, when i figured it out, i stopped even searching, i just focused on getting to the next ladder and that’s it.

Boss AI and overall dificulty, here i wondered why wont all bosses be more like “Fishing on land” quest boss. Seriously. It was the only boss worth playing, and later wished i would find it again at some point.

I would love to see people who hate to explore play a game like Journey. That game doesn’t tell you crap haha it just like WHAM GO!

Aside from that, Like a said in other threads, majority of the time NPC’s tell you what they want… if you’re too low leveled for a quest they have nothing to say to you. Touch everything.

First off, thank you @anarchyboy1547 for a fairly objective perspective on the current state of the Tree of Savior game. As a game developer myself, I can agree with a lot of what you’re saying, but may also find other points worth noting.

For the record, @lann3do1 this is the furthest thing from a ‘whine thread’ as you so call it. There have been PLENTY of stupid posts from childish minds that simply want to boost their own classes because they think they’re scaling insignificantly to other classes at the same level. This is not one of them. The difference between subjectivity and objectivity is the use of “I” and stating how it is. This is what game dev’s should need to hear if a majority of their userbase is dissatisfied with an experience that doesn’t retain their interest.

Re: 2

from a Q&A after KCBT2:

Q) It seems that the speed of the battles is somewhat slow. Do you have future plans to make them little faster?

A) In present MMO games, the servers calculate and share everything so with that underlying constraint present, we actually maximized the speed of the battles in the game. You may feel like that since TOS servers should allow the inputs whenever you attack. Please understand it as a characteristic of the genre.

I’m sure there’s a lot of people who have the same disdain for the “simple” programming in the AI’s, especially the bosses. Unfortunately, the dev’s seem to have already responded to this. I do feel that something as simple as reducing the delay between the attacks (boss OR mob) would spike the difficulty and encourage a team-focused play-style for the game.

I’m not saying the animation speeds should be shifted up, either (or else it’s GG for everyone)… but I doubt the “map-to-char-server-calculation” involved here requires much.

Even a boss’ walk speed increase would spike the difficulty… can you imagine a humongo boss strait up RUNNING at you? Screw kiting, RUN FOR YOUR F_KING LIFE.

Re: Cash shop options
I think IMC / Nexon is still in the process of figuring out what direction they want to aim their economy at. The beta tests were probably the best opportunity to test the use of these items instead of throwing it into a launched product haphazardly and ruining it.

Re: Shared bank

This. I wouldn’t even mind if removing an item from the shared bank with a different toon would deduct the SAME amount of potential (okay, not really) but at least I wouldn’t have to be worried about a ‘friend’ I’ve never met or seen scamming me for an item transfer.

I do hate the “Tree of Arde Dagger” meme that was floating around for awhile, but I’ve also come to accept that it’s just too good of an item up to 170+. Builds become pretty reliant on this one item that isn’t even that rare of an item. Honestly don’t know why this even sells for above 200k.

Thanks everyone for your feedback thus far, I see all sides of your points on most topics.

The only one i cant get over… are the quest icons… I just need a cut and dry answer. With the Icon Revealed… I win because i dont want to explore. and you win because REGARDLESS of what the map shows you ( community ) want to explore. Why would a quest icon on a minimap hinder your ability or joy out of exploring?? It hurts me because to myself (personally) i hate exploring, its not fun, i see how it could be fun, to some people, But its not to me. I want a concrete answer of:

  1. Why would quest Icons on the map, make your exploration less enjoyable??

And Pllleeasssee dont say because it gives “tells” of where the map ends or something dumb like that.

If you Love exploring so much, My perspective is, you wouldn’t be looking at your map anyways because your exploring… not running the edges of a map.

From my perspective as of right now. Not having quest icon hurts the non-explorers. Forces us to participate in a game play feature that we do not want to participate in. However HAVING the icons makes us happy, and doesn’t hurt exploration. So why cant we both win?? Unless someone can give me a concrete reason why a icon on a minimap will hurt the exploration joy.
