The EXP rate is atrocious, and deals a heavy blow to the game

The real problem is the fact that we can’t test the other ranks out because of how long it takes to get to them. What if the skills of a rank 6 character bugs out? Or is not translated properly?

I got to level 100 in my first day using paladin and a lot of blue potions and exp cards. with no prior knowledge of the game. And it left people’s minds blown. My friend was playing with me and he was struggling to get his wiz past level 40 for some reason… but as a paladin it was super easy get to g to 100 in a day.

A COUPLE YEARS??? Are you insane or just plain retarded? I don’t know what games you’ve played but most games take a month or two if you’re not experienced. Not a year or even a couple. Dumbest statement I’ve seen about this issue thus far.

Uhh… Point and case as a rebuttal: Maple Story.

You are 100% wrong.

No wonder Steparu isnt in this beta. He just pops when the KCBT is under maintenance.

I cant believe there still was no comment from the Devs regarding the exp rate… on korean beta there are multiple patches daily…and here we are …well, kinda struggeling.

Going to pull my post from another thread about RO comparison because it’s relevant to what a lot of people are saying here.

In RO, there were TONS of places you could grind. This is why early grind WORKED. You could explore and find all sorts of maps to kill monsters on. It was part of the adventure. Different classes could grind on different things and in different ways due to their unique abilities. The diversity of content EARLY ON IN THE GAME made it successful despite how grindy it was.

This ISN’T the case with ToS. Map progression in ToS is linear. There aren’t multiple starting towns or tons of fields to explore and kill things in. Every class grinds effectively the same way (as opposed to RO, where mages could firewall to train on higher level things, acolytes could train effectively on undead due to heal bombing, archers could outrange Greater Generals), and they grind in the same areas.

Grinding for hours, then, makes more sense LATER ON in ToS, when there is more diversity in the content of the game. Classes will get more specialized and more maps will be available, so every single person isn’t forced to do the exact same thing with zero uniquity.

Again, ToS can’t afford to have such a stupid curve so early in the game. It doesn’t have what RO had available at the start of the game. Not at all. There is nothing charming, immersive, or adventurous about everyone running around like a bunch of bots in tenet garden for 4 hours.

It just ocurred to me after partying with a Cleric in the chapel now… This thing deals about the same damage to much more enemies than my Wizard this isn’t even funny, and to top this, better deffensive stats, more HP, less SP consuption and self sustain. Guess me and your friend are playing the wrong class.

Reminds me of early ragnarok days. I love the grind.

This game here feels a lot more like an actual MMORPG than a 2D sidescroller grind fest and MapleStory is quite old, if they remade the game pretty much exactly the same the game would not get as much of a following, just like if they pretty much just remade Ragnarok it would not get the same following now, also, I wish people would keep in mind the game might go over level 500(some players reported the maps going up to level 470) starting a long grind around level 30-40 is just terrible if you take into account that there are so many levels.

I’m pretty sure they plan on tweaking the experience because on the Korean beta they found a nice sweet spot where you don’t get over leveled when doing all the quests in the story zones and you still need to grind a bit here and there but it doesn’t feel like it takes forever, I’m 120 at the moment on there, getting a level still takes a while but it’s alright.

I’m also here to say Yes for grinding and NO for low level HARDCORE grinding.
In the end game at least you should/could have options: killing bosses, killing mobs, doing dungeons, doing quests, doing repetitive quests, etc.
Grinding with friends is acceptable, but I think I would be bored to hell to grind alone…

yes to high level grinding … NO to low level grinding

There is a comment on the “understanding the exp situation” thread from Shawn at IMC.

for me, I think it is better be slow , as will be more difficult , and I not will finish boring.

There’s plenty of people decently high leveled. Content is being tested. The people complaining are people who are to used to the crappy mmorpg games that have been releasing this past decade where you go 1- max level in less than 24 hours. It’s just that simple.

I got a lvl 130 Elementalist, and I could be about 200~250 if the early game was more attractive. When you create a character, you need days to get lvl 60~80 only grinding and questing. It makes you lose your interest.
When a new player create his character, he wants the frenzy of play a new game, he wants to identify with the game, feel monsters, challenges, levels falling over his head at the same time. After get lvl 80~100 with this frenzy and knows better the game, this player will have the dedication to keep leveling slower. I personally took 3 days to get lvl 40 and 2 more days to get 130, it wasn’t about Exp rate, but about motivation to stay leveling for hours.

whats wrong with wizards?

Agreed.

I think we should get the inverse of KBT’s supposed increased exp rates as level increased. Something like 50x until level 10, 49x until level 20, 48x until level 30, etc. Currently, you barely get a chance to try the unique aspects of ToS before the grind sets in. Grind is inevitable, but it needs to be introduced much later (and, ideally, much more gradually) so that people will give this game a chance.

i can endure grinding for hours, but the lack of channels and the few good spots make it a little frustrating
