Before I begin, I’d like to explain my experience with GBL so far. For the past few days now, my guild and I have participated in GvG almost every day, but from the way things are right now, it’s very disheartening.
Earlier, we were up against the strongest guild of our server. We lost, can’t do much in our circumstances, I don’t blame them either and hold no resentment whatsoever, I just say to myself and my guild it’s just bad luck we ran into them. We waited for 10 minutes before we queue again, hoping to fight someone else that’s not them, and we got matched with them again.
Judging from the GBL ranking, it became apparently clear how things were. The number 1 guild would always play every single day, while other guilds would queue just once, try to get lucky, maybe win a match or just lose once, get into the ranking and that’s it. Never play again. And I don’t blame any of these guilds either. It makes sense. It’s nearly impossible to compete with the top guild, so any guild in their right mind would just play once, win or lose, make it to the ranking, get free TP and do it all over again next week. Literally everyone had the same idea. No one is being clever about it.
What I’m suggesting here is that maybe the top 3, or just the number 1 guild in GvG should be excluded from the following week’s ranking. I know a number of games that do this where the top guild would be barred from entering PvP for a small duration of time, just to give other guilds a chance to climb the ladder.
Some might argue that it’s not right to “punish” the top guild, but this is just considering the current situation as well as the overall bigger picture. If say the top guild is excluded for a week from GBL, other guilds have more incentive to queue and not have the “why do I even bother” mentality. With enough participation, GBL would be actually fun for everyone instead of being the game of “gonna queue once, win or lose get my place on the ranking and get free TP for my guild”. The following week, the top guilds can just play again and dominate.
