I revive this old thread, I didn’t wanted to make another thread about that.
I would make a wizard in the iCBT2, I hesitate again by the fact to be quickly oom, anyone in the icbt1 had difficulties to play solo as wiz? :<
This is old, since then, changes have been made.
SP potions instantly heal and then add a mp heal over time.
Bonfires were also upgraded.
I wanted to be sure, thanks for your answer Fate ^^
Bonfires were changed around when iCBT1 started (though we didn’t get it in our version).
I can’t remember when SP potions were changed, but it was fairly soon after.
Happy Wizard here
Here’s my view from a lvl 82 Elementalist. ( I went Wizard 3 and Ele 1. I roughly went 3 int for 1 spirit.)
At first it was ugly, I can’t say it was not… but at the lower levels I felt like the auto-attack was quite fine to fill the “gap” between my sp pots regeneration time. After that, once I started “understanding” what I was doing, with boosting the passives from cloth armor, gems and such, I really didnt miss much on my SP. I only needed to play smart about it, I calculated roughly which spells and how many times I needed to use them to kill a certain pack of mobs to make it sustainable. And once you start grinding in the “dungeon” maps you start racking money like no tomorrow (maybe not the crystal mines at first tho). I only needed to go restock myself once every hour and a half or so. I always brought 150 small mana potions and 10 hp options with me. No fire as I found it useless while solo grinding/questing.
I also had no problem whatsoever killing bosses, I never ran out of mana in the middle of a fight.
In conclusion, I think we can’t just assume from what we saw up to this point since we only saw the “start” of the game. Only future will tell!
edit: Also boosting your damage skills passives HELPS A LOT. Logical. More damage done by each spell, the less spell you need to cast.
As an avid Wizard class player I absolutely agree with you. As much as I would love to just be able to spam all day with no worries, that would take away from the overall gameplay considerably.
Not just SP. As a Barbarian, when you have 4k of HP, it’s regenerating 21hp/sec, but it’s the same amount that an Archer regen with 2.2k. I think that this part of HP/SP REGEN needs more attention.
There are 2 options:
- Increase the SP regen.
- Decrease SP cost of skills
I played some chars now and it is obvious that wizard skills costs much more sp then skills from other classes and the skills still only deal decent damage. A lvl 5 heal from cleric still deals more damage (when all tiles hit) then a lvl 10 earthquake from wizard rank 2. And my cleric has a SP/CON build, with not int at all.
I totally agree with you.
I also agree to a certain extent. learn how to manage and ration your mana.
BUT there has to be an upper side to this. Right now it looks like playing a swordman class is mathematically a better choice. since you don’t really need pots basically AT ALL even in solo, you can invest more into equip and attributes.
invest some points into spr and you wont have any problems, 50 spr is a minimum for a caster based classes
i see lot of ppl playing mages or clerics and put all points to INT and after they say it suck becouse they must buy mana pots all the time
This is my first time trying as mage role in a MMORPG, and I have to say that it have been quite frustrating. I spend most of time resting for mana regen, and I’m building a support mage full SPR, what to say for those as INT/SPR DPS mages. My experience by now hasn’t any fun…
A social MMO with no TRADE available to common players. . .
No amount of SPR or Mana pots every 30 seconds can replace a good Mana tick, and the current one SUCKS. Either knock down the pot costs and cool down or increase the sitting tickrate and SP regen. I’m doing more sitting than fighting and I’m not even a mage.
There is no reason why a player should be able to outstrip their entire mana pool within seconds of spamming a spelling a small pack of mobs, and then have to wait some odd 40-60 seconds for 3/4 of their pool, or popping a potion that recovers 1/10th of that and costs what 20-30 mobs will drop in silver (lower levels)…
I dont know what the issue is …
Cataphract rush eats up sp a lot yet it refills fast enough to use it on 100% agaim
Psychokino Pressue eats up percentage of it, still can use it on cd with 100% sp again.
Then there are buffs to increase SP regen rate.
Bokor here. Currently running around at lvl 110 with 60 SPR since 40 simply wasn’t enough to support a lvl 6 Hexing with Attribute (66 SP)
and 2-3 lvl 10 Effigys (41 SP per cast) to kill a mob of 4-10 monsters.
60 SPR is very comfortable(at the current lvl), I can run around and kill for 5-10 minutes without having to sit down and regenerate SP very often, and for that time I carry around ± 100 firewood (30 silver each) because I can reg about ~100 SP per bonfire SP-tick that way and am full in like 20-30 seconds of resting.
You guys don’t seem to have played Ragnarok Online, imagine e.g. a healbombing Acolyte that had about 400-600 SP and each heal that was cast (lvl 10) costs 40 SP. He used up his whole SP in like 1 minute and had to rest for at least 300-500 seconds after that to regenerate his SP.
ToS is heaven compared with this, and people still played RO;
it’s just the impatience of the “I want to kill stuff”-mentality that makes people become enervated about this. If you don’t have 20-30 seconds per mob to sit down by a bonfire every now and then, how will you reach the lvl cap of lvl 470-600?
It’s obviously a feature that you sit down and rest by a bonfire now and then (and a social feature at that, because you start interacting with others that you share your bonfires with; it’s an ethnological thing
) to make the grind not so frustrating and reduce your costs on potions yet you go the hard way and spam pots and then nag about them being expensive…
There are also other ways of improving your SP recovery, like completing SP recovery collections. Each of these collections is worth 3 points invested in SPR (no considering boni on higher SPR levels)
and there are currently 10 of them, offering a total of +30 SPrecovery
(+ a collection giving +5 SPR = at least another 5 SP recovery per tick).
All in all not a bad deal I think, I like the bonfire, but maybe that’s just my impression since I’m a ROchild
