So.. am I bad or is Hunter just complete garbage?

I just went Hunter and my god it is terrible, the pet AI is so bad, when fighting bosses whenever I use a skill even if I have LOCKED ON TO THE BOSS my pet uses its skill on the stupid totems.

Am I doing something wrong? The damage seems subpar for the SP costs and its just so awkward to set up pet attacks.

Half the time I’ll use a pet skill and it burns a use and the pet just stands there like an idiot doing nothing.

Here’s a video of one of the issues I’m having:

** Also if anyone can recommend the BiS (Best in Slot) Bow / Crossbow for each level 15, 40, 75, 120, 170 etc that I should aim for and any further gearing tips I’d appreciate it. RIght now I’m using a lvl 15 Seeker +9 that is 125 dmg w/ 14 Crit Rate at lvl 44 0_0

Thanks!

Dont have a hunter, but to me hunter lools like an alt class. You can level up your pet using main and then start a hunter with an already high level pet. Mine is 110 for example, and even without buying any attribute it and not playing a hunter can one shot monster till level 50 or so. But summon/pet ai seems pretty stupid indeed

Ya my pet is level 91 and my Hunter is level 44… it doesn’t 1 shot enemies and just walks in circles doing ■■■■ all… half the time it doesn’t even follow me even with full Stamina.

Also it’s stamina seems to drain ridiculously fast!

you are just bad. now if you are smart you work around the bad AI. like for example drag the boss away from the traps and then use rush dog or just go near the boss and rush dog. since the AI attack the target nearest to you.

but its all different story in PVP. you cant afford to maneuver around ppl.

I don’t have issues using Rush Dog, also did you even watch the video? The pet doesn’t respond at all.

Even if I pull the boss away the pet will run past the boss and then attack the traps or do absolutely nothing at all. Also after doing quite a bit of reading it does not seem I’m the only one so ya, I don’t think it’s my “skill” I think it’s very poorly implemented and utterly ■■■■ AI.

Companion’s AI is unreliable.

As the one above mentioned, you need to work around the bad AI, otherwise you’ll have some frustating experience. Try to attack the monster atleast twice with basic attacks to then Rush Dog, it works most of the time.

Cheers.

I read that snatching is great for flying bosses (and saw some videos) and read that it will prioritize flying enemies… but still with flying bosses it will attempt to use snatching on the traps… they need to just make traps un targetable by pets that would resolve like 75% of my complaints so far.

Snatching does a lot of damage vs flying monsters , especially when you are using a bow. At lv5 it lasts for 10 seconds while ticking the bleeding every 0.5 seconds…expect it to deal around 1000~1500 damage each tick.

I agree with you, traps should be unprioritized or even ignored, since they do seem to be the companion’s prime targets.

Hunter in my opinion is a class more focused on pvp because I have never seen something as stupid as coursing and retrieve…they both bypass Plague Doctor’s buffs. :stuck_out_tongue:

It happens with me too, the companion stops and says “fck all this”, lay down and go to sleep.

But here is a tip:

Hunter’s skills don’t target the targeted enemy target (?), it targets the closest enemy on the direction the hunter is facing, but when it stops like this… Forget it.

Whenever I do a dungeon now no matter what my pet will completely stop working before it’s over.

I’ll not lie to you, Hunter is an amazing class but you need playerskill to use.

For sure the companion AI will be improved sometime and hit skills will become easier.

About the fact that your pet stops doing anything at all it started after the most recent patch, I didn’t have such problem before.

plus one to you bro  I am a hunter too… you must know how to position your pet… before doing anything else  I can kill higher lvl players when ever I retrieve+rushdog combo

I should add I have no interest in PVP until much later in the game… I’m talking about PVE.

Also fighting against a broken AI to get it to work isn’t “player skill” it’s tedious and annoying. I’m aware of ways I can position myself to use some of the skills properly but in most cases the amount of time it takes to set up these things another class could have already killed the enemy multiple times over.

My plan was to be more support oriented for Archer C1, C2, Hunter C1 - C3, then take Falconer and Cannoneer to finally get some solid AOE damage. I knew it would be slow going with almost all the skills from Archer 1 - Hunter C3 were single target focused but with the added bonus of fighting against a useless and broke AI it just seems painful to play.

Can coursing even be used on bosses? Because as it stands I have yet to have it actually connect with a boss, mainly due to trap interference.

True, Hunter is an amazing class, but the pet stucks sometimes, and there is nothing you can do…

I can kill +30 lvl players with only Coursing…

@Trippi

Then, you picked the wrong class… Hunter isn’t meant for PvE…

Coursing doesnt work on bosses, im struggling with it too, but i am getting better and better, lv 91 now and things seems to be getting alot easier, my pet is lv 85 btw

Don’t use other pet skills, while it’s stuck in Coursing and your pet will be fine.

Every class is or SHOULD be viable for PVE…
