“gay” was banned because of simpletons who can’t think of any insults more creative than “omg ur gay, fagt” which is insulting to anyone with a brain, not just homosexuals. IMC simply collected a list of “insults, swears, and bad words” and fed that into the censor.
also because, get this, you might have trouble wrapping your head around it… koreans have different cultural standards than we do! gasp who’da guessed? (skirts no wider than an unusually large belt? totally fine. cleavage? BANNED!)
since the property license is held in korea, they can dictate the handling of their licensees.
“dictating the terms” includes a laundry list of things, like providing content updates, bugfixes, patches, and yes, things like censor-lists. and sorry to say it, the korean powers-that-be have not gotten around to accepting homosexuality.
you have 2 options:
1; pack your bags, and move along.
2; keep playing, and (hopefully) stop making a fuss over it.
if you choose 1, you make a sacrifice for your beliefs, but you have voted with your wallet, and that’s just about the only argument they’ll actually listen to. also make sure to avoid any OTHER korean based games in the future, because it’ll be the same thing there, too.
if you choose 2, you make a sacrifice OF your beliefs, but you get to have fun, and keep playing this game you like. and you admit, even if it’s only to yourself, that this isn’t really isn’t that big a deal to you.
being offended by this is a choice. (how you react to -anything- in life is a choice, even if it’s subconscious.) it’s either an important issue to you – in which case you should choose #1 – or you can say to yourself “dude… it’s just a word. the power this word has is only the power i give it.”
you have – you are – you will – make your statement about how serious you are about this by your own actions, and your actions. complaining about it here in the forums isn’t going to get anything solved, and as witnessed already, is just going to provoke trolls.
as an aside, 2 final points.
1; whatever your personal/local problems are, they have no relevance here. IMC is a company, so they don’t care unless a significant portion of their customer base does. in a country that does not really accept homosexuality yet, that isn’t going to happen.
2; you are the one choosing to make this an issue. you stood up out of the crowd and announced “hey look at me! i’m gay! and i’m going to make a fuss!” the rest of us don’t care. positive or negative, it has no meaning to us until you start rubbing it in our face and demanding we react to it. so we reacted, and the consensus is, more or less, (once trolling is trimmed) “oh no, a word used as a common slur got put on the censor list, who woulda guessed.”

@NaviWolf you’d have an easier time of it; submit a ticket that offensive slurs were used in chat, and now you feel a tiny bit butthurt, and it’ll probably get censored in a patch or 2.

Whether or not IMC was forced to keep their list of censored words or not doesn’t change the fact that Gay is not considered a ‘‘bad word’’ or anything controversial for other players to hear, so it should not be a censored word…period.

On the other hand, if I will stick on the topic, which is why those words are banned, I don’t get it as well… I thought its just a normal word (gay and lesbian)… I was just thinking it is an offending word to other country that’s why it should be banned… (if it is and it should be because this is an international game)
But having the discrimination issue and blabbering about your gay gender, I refuse to accept that! It’s already a pain in my ass everytime I hear gay community fighting for their rights when they were already given their own right as a man. I’m against to those noise! And “I PREFER” not to hear it in this game!
