🙀 Will leather sets & mastery become more useless starting at 180+ maps even for evasion builds?

Let me start this off with a damage chart:

As you can see or may have known already (sauce: http://wiki.tosbase.com/wiki/Damage_Type):

  • Stab (Pierce) deals 50% additional damage against leather armor but suffers a 25% damage penalty against cloth armor. This applies to p.Atk long range monsters/players as well. Cloth wins.

  • Against magic, cloth obviously wins.

I’m currently a sword3 cata3 with decent DEX (PVP, and I have a 2 stat reset potions, so meh) and have noticed that starting at lv.180 maps majority of the monsters are either magic or ranged (some with ridiculous accuracy as well). In PVP/TBL/GvG, I don’t even know if there’s room for leather-wearing.

Being a big TBL fan, I’ve gotten used to switching gears but don’t remember a time when I’d think “hey, I should wear leather set in this round”. In most cases, it’s cloth. Plate if there’s 2 or more cata (which is a rare match).

I now realized I may have invested in the wrong set (leather, not worth millions though as 2 or 3 parts are easily farmed) and mastery (I’m currently lv.20 on all three armor masteries).

The big questions:

##Should we just skip leather mastery entirely and not invest in high-end leather sets?

##Do you think the leather mechanics needs to be revamped?

EDIT:

p.s. I also want to know as I can’t seem to find a clear answer to this by searching the forums and googling: What damage type is bleeding and poison? Are they pure (i.e. ignores pDef and mDef)?

Yes evasion gears need to be revamp

Bleed is pure flat phys pierce damage (cant crit)

Poison is Elemental only can be reduced by Poison resist also cant crit
but normally u counter poison with

can be bought from your nearest drug store npc for 200 silver and 0cd

In general use, yes Plate is really good. Since 280 is still quite a long haul, I might focus mastery on it first as well as getting decent Plate gear.

For TBL though, I find to be using the Cloth set more because the event is plagued with clerics and wizes, and 25% reduc for missile is a nice perk.

I’ll invest in cloth second, or maybe start on it once I get plate mastery to at least 50.

I feel like leather is pure temptation because EVASION!!! Hahaha.

Hahaha. Well IMC said we gonna get some anti-CC love soon, but I hope we won’t end up like Hauberk…

So poison is a unique elemental then since it can’t be reduced by generic magic def while all others (lightning, fire, etc.) can be, am I correct?

they have their own resists too but i think they are partially reduced by mdef

i can confirm things like magic missle is purely reduced by mdef tho

I was hoping somewhere in the farfar future wearing armor sets grants offensive bonuses too at a later rank or when mastered, something like:
Plate=+10%/20%PA
Leather=+30%/50%Damage Type bonus
(eg:Pierce to Leather 50%>>80%/100%(debatable if it applies to elements too))
Cloth=+10%/20%MA
Really, I do want leather sets to get buffed since evasion only works on physical attacks.

no it doesn’t :unamused:

and as someone that is going full leather with 20 attributes…

it isn’t useless at all…

Leather can be appreciated if you are full dex to maximise evasion …

Magic wilk still rekt you does not matter what you wear

Againts physical …
10 mobs phy hit you wearing plate all hit -physical reduction = all 10 hits damage
10 mobs phy hit you wearing leather 5 hits 5 dodged

So who got lesser damage in melee …

The problem is dex suck atm ?..

so your saying that you can evade magic ?

sometimes I see that I can and others am not so sure…

need more testing…

will be back after I get something better than words…

Avoiding magic is based on what type it is. If it’s an aoe spell simply avoid the aoe circle, targeting types that lock on cannot be avoided but can be block(technically) thru damage nullifying buffs of skill effects which mostly come from the Cleric tree and two certain skills from the Swordsman tree.

no it doesn’t

and as someone that is going full leather with 20 attributes.…

it isn’t useless at all…

he is saying using only leather not inculding other variables

Leather has its merits but only in very specific scenarios.

When you’re up against high accuracy mobs/players, you’d rather have all of their damage significantly reduced than receive bonus damage for more than half of the time.

Against pure STR builds in PVP though, leather could work.

Plate and cloth overall have become needs than options.

it seems you might be right about directional attacks…

Also, I think this count as melee and not magic

@GitGud you really suck at it, if you are going to stick to someone… please do it to someone with a bigger moral core than @haukinyau

cant believe am wasting my near sleep time with your kind but whatever…

no it doesn’t < It means both have the same dmg resistance, no matter if they hit or not cause when they hit they will do the same dmg…

and as someone that is going full leather with 20 attributes… < it means I have 4 pieces of leather clothing (armor, pants boots and gloves) on me at all times and that I have leveled my leather mastery attribute to lvl 21

it isn’t useless at all… it means that it has helped me a lot…

#and of course there are other variants I was too tire and lazy to mention…

this isn’t a controlled space where everything is exactly at your control and where all the data is at hand…

you must be stupid to believe there aren’t other variables…

Hello PPL~!

Im plaing in leather set 4 pices with lv 50 mastery 100 DEX etc.
I had kinda good experienc with evasion it was kinda nice and cool many misses up to evac gringing spot but storage raped me hard evasion is not rly helping alot.

So in my opinion at this moment leather is only prefered for players with high DEX.

P.S. If you look on the items anyway you can see leather is kinda the weekest anyway. But hey its only my opinion.

Sorry if i misspell kinda hard im at work dont have alot of time to correct this :stuck_out_tongue:

It will depend on how much content IMC is going to make that completely ignores evasion. Leather shoulda just give move speed since it helps in SOME cases of magic damage (that’s just me though).

i fail to understand his logic when the core part of this thread is armor type and its advantages
