Let me start this off with a damage chart:
As you can see or may have known already (sauce: http://wiki.tosbase.com/wiki/Damage_Type):
-
Stab (Pierce) deals 50% additional damage against leather armor but suffers a 25% damage penalty against cloth armor. This applies to p.Atk long range monsters/players as well. Cloth wins.
-
Against magic, cloth obviously wins.
I’m currently a sword3 cata3 with decent DEX (PVP, and I have a 2 stat reset potions, so meh) and have noticed that starting at lv.180 maps majority of the monsters are either magic or ranged (some with ridiculous accuracy as well). In PVP/TBL/GvG, I don’t even know if there’s room for leather-wearing.
Being a big TBL fan, I’ve gotten used to switching gears but don’t remember a time when I’d think “hey, I should wear leather set in this round”. In most cases, it’s cloth. Plate if there’s 2 or more cata (which is a rare match).
I now realized I may have invested in the wrong set (leather, not worth millions though as 2 or 3 parts are easily farmed) and mastery (I’m currently lv.20 on all three armor masteries).
The big questions:
##Should we just skip leather mastery entirely and not invest in high-end leather sets?
##Do you think the leather mechanics needs to be revamped?
EDIT:
p.s. I also want to know as I can’t seem to find a clear answer to this by searching the forums and googling: What damage type is bleeding and poison? Are they pure (i.e. ignores pDef and mDef)?
EDIT:
