1. GENERAL IDEA

Hello fellow ToS players.

After a long time I decided to pick up Rodelero class as my main character. I like to play mostly PvE (boss hunting mainly) classes. Sadly last patches implemented significant resistibility of bosses for majority of debuffs. If this wont change or if developers don`t rework Rodelero skills the only possibility of end game boss farming are future higher rank classes skills. But I decided to stick with my choice. After many tips in this thread I think that Rodelero potential lies in two other areas: a) being the good basis for rank 7th+ class, b) great single target disabler for PvP and regular above player level mobs. I really like the idea of one hand sword and shield single target builds so I will not give up that easily. :slight_smile: Lets think of it like a part of the bigger picture rather than full thing.

This is only the basic idea so I will like that you contribute to it or point out any errors. I will add up Our concepts to this post as We go. Any replays are welcome.

2. RODELERO

Rodelero is 4th rank class from the Swordsman archetype branch. Rodeleros are specialized in single target focus rather than big field of effect skills. They got a variety of skills able to control targets actions. This enables them to be great in ambushing and disabling opponents. Primary attack stat is Strength making them a melee character lacking long range attacks. Recommended gear contains of one hand weapon coupled with shield and heavy plate armor. Usage of shield and heavy protection wear make them potential tankers. Rodeleros will fit in any PvP scenario and in many PvE encounters.

This build is designed to reconcile PvE and PvP possibility of play. Lets call it a hybrid build, which will be greatly influenced by the future Swordsman higher rank classes. PvX/PvP AA/CC/Tank stands for Player vs. Anything (to a greater or lesser extent), Player vs. Player, Auto-Attack, Crowd Control, Defensive build able to withstand fair amount of beating. Swordsman skills provide overall addition to basic parameters like damage, stun and survivability. Rodelero bring a lot of debuff and crippling effects being fancy defensive tools. Higher classes picks need to involve some direct dps abilities, to make this build work out in the long run.

Current stat distribution is pure speculation. Stats calculation are divided in two levels: 240 (current) and 600 lvl (future lvl cap). Stat values calculated for level 600 include added 100(guess) stat point from quests, achievements, etc. Starting from the lowest values it is important to notice that you don’t need any points in Intelligence or Spirit. Intelligence provides only magical damage and block penetration not needed by this class. Spirit Increases SP and SP recovery rate that will increase itself by natural level advancement and can be managed by potions. I added fairly small amounts of Agility and Vitality to make more versatile character. I don`t want it to suffer in areas of HP, Critical and Hit rates or Evasion. Strength is the most important stat. Our “bread and butter” of this build. Strength increases Physical Damage and Critical Hit, so it deserves the majority of stats spent. This mixture of 75% Str, 12,5% Dex and 12,5% Con is in my opinion good place to start future speculations.

PvE will focus on farming single regular mobs but on the slightly higher level than the character level. This will not be an easy or fast task. This specific build will demand big amount of what might be considered a monotonous repetition, regarding farming. Slightly “outdoing” content level designed for specific stage in character development can potentially yield better loot. Other benefits of this approach can include: lesser space for farming spot needed, higher tier loots, less “crowded” hard to predict situations, potential for finding higher level party and so on. As for now efficient solo boss hunting is out of the question, but we will try to “implement” this someday. As far as it goes for party play, parties can also benefit from timely and precisely provided CC to maximize grind or to rescue the situation when things don’t go as planed. Bare in mind that you will be OK, but not but not necessarily a top end dmg machine. The key to success in a party is variety. So play your part properly and don’t try too much to be other class.

PvP is not yet to well known so I don`t want to overspeculate. I will add more here in future updates.

Pros:

  • possibility of tanking
  • not mana thirsty
  • evenly rounded skill effects
  • good base for future classes

Cons:

  • hard to level up
  • no distinct pure dmg skills
  • single mob farming oriented
  • unable to solo bosses
  • push effects on many skills

Skills overview:

15lvl Targe Smash - Our main CC/Dmg skill. It causes Darkness state that reduces target seeing radius,making it great skill for PvP. It`s got 3 charges. It deals biggest Dmg in this build.
Attributes maxing order: Enhance, Frozen Stone, Flame

15lvl Montano - Stunning skill with good dmg. Second in the CC/Dmg “department” thus another good PvP skill. Its got 2 charges. Its attribute [Size Slow] enables extended CC by slowing down targets. It works on bosses.
Attributes maxing order: Size slow, Enhance

15lvl Shield Push - Good debuffing skill with low attack Dmg. Inflicts Unbalance status on enemies decreasing their defense. [Duration] attribute expands this effect. Initial Dmg is not that great though.
Attributes maxing order: Duration, Enhance

15lvl Gung Ho - Best swordsman buff period! Increases base dmg, which is used with all types of skills and auto attacks. It`s only downside is defense reduction.
Attributes maxing order: Enhance

10lvl Restrain - Buff with Stun chance. Good for PvP and PvE. It`s a great addition to Targe Smash skill. Reduces small part of HP pool.
Attributes maxing order: Enhance, Duration(if not DELETED?? max this first)

15lvl Pain Barrier - Life saving buff. Prevention from stun, push and fall. This is a must have for any PvP or Boss fight. No attributes available.

5lvl Bash - Additional skill. Last resource skill. It`s not intended as dmg/dps skill. We pick this only for AoE Knock Down which is provided by [Knock Down] and [Splash] attributes.

i see the Rodelero as PvP CC focus class more than PvE, the rodelero debuff wont probably work on bosses anyway and the rodelero skills CD are too long for mobbing

also without Peltast class you wont have access to provoke.

As I said in another thread, Rodelero needs a lot of work done before it becomes decent:

If this is true than it is very bad news, but I will try to find a way to farm with this class. Hopefully they will improve it over time.

Reading this Im reconsidering making a PvP Rodelero, but I still hope that it will be PvE-able.

Im sick of playing wizard/barbarian/archer archetype classes so I will stick with this. If I only waste my time others will have 100% confirmation that its useless road. I will start testing next beta. Thank you for your ideas.

I’m seriously considering a pvp Rodelero. I’m loving the debuffing attacks, the Deprotect attitude if it really does what the tool tip says it does, and possibilities of Evasion maneuver (if it’s a good skill or not). Pelta Umbo blow has an attribute that can add stun that’s another debugging attack I can add to my arsenal in crippling my opponents in pvp. But yea this really does need something more to deliver if it’s gonna compare to the other swordies

i can see a number of pvp builds committing rank 4 to rodelero in the future
for now it seems like rodelero is waiting to contribute to a future class

  1. barbarian has been an incentive for players to skip rank 4 classes

  2. rodelero competes with cataphract in the rank 4 spot
    cataphract impaler is an awesome skill because an impaled opponent stays disabled on the spear
    compared to rodelero skills the kabob is a stronger CC at the moment

  3. rodelero c3 is an awkward choice when earlier rodelero skills dont really work with shooting star but sets things up for doppelsoldner skills

there is really no point in getting Rodelero 3 as the Doppel has larger damaging skills for the same cooldown currently

i wonder if your link to stat calculator would be more helpful if you have it set as a level 200 or 250 character
these levels are closer to recent level caps in beta

also i believe below are the progress milestones that coincide with ranks and most equipment level requirements

level 15 - close to maxing rank 1
level 40 - close to maxing rank 2
level 75 - close to maxing rank 3
level 120 - close to maxing rank 4
level 175 - close to maxing rank 5
level 240 - close to maxing rank 6
level 315 - close to maxing rank 7
level 400 - close to maxing rank 8
level 495 - close to maxing rank 9
level 600 - close to maxing rank 10

in this case a level 500 stat calculator may be a bit odd when we are only up to rank 6 at this moment

I divided stat prognosis to level 240(240 stat points) and 600(700 stat points). I would like it this way so to keep track of future level caps speculations.

Here is some imput i had put on rodelero after reaching it in iCBT1
And also i dont know if you have seen this but they also got buffed/ new skill!

I can give you my thoughts after playing a bit of Rodelero in iCbt1
I am glad there is people interested in it aswell! Using shield as a weapon is awesome.
However when i finally approached to Rodelero , i really felt like my skills were not that great, each only hit 3-4 monsters and do only a bit more then my auto attack, but they have an animation and knock them back so you have to chase after them losing DPS, the shield running skill seemed almost useless. Montano was hilarious though , me and my group were laughing so hard at it because when you use it the mobs spin around like in circles, but IT WORKS ON BOSSES, i didnt take any video of it but it was certainly funny to see a big boss spinning around in a circle.
I went Swordsman-> Pelesta -Pelesta - Roderelo
i did not feel that pel circle 2 was worth it for me nor roderelo
pel circle 2 seems more worth it to me as of now because of umbo blow attrib, but other than that id rather of just gone hoplite.
As for roderelo , i have no doubt that those skills will be really good in pvp, each provides a stun/ knockback/ knockdown and targe smash has darkness. but in PvE it seemed like i rather just autoattack.
For the next beta i will be going
Sword- Pel - Hoplite -> then either hoplite x2 or rodelero
not sure even now, i like the rodelero outfit and pvp, butt hoplite 2 may just be better sadly. As much as i love using the shield to fight things , i don’t know about this.
I was str 4;1 con
I will be doing some sort of combination of dex/str next beta with mainly dex untill i get around 80-100 then i will go str/con it depends on my crit chance though, i want high crit chance.

I could make a build if you would like to look at it.
This is just my response from someone who got rank 4 and reached roderelo in iCbt 1. Not going to lie, i felt pretty bummed.

i also do not remember having multiple charges on my skills, maybe shield push had it but i didnt see, is that a new buff in Kcbt? because all of the skills like montano/targe had 1 charge

Thats a great idea I would like to see it. I can add it to the first post and update it from time to time. If you consider going with Rodeler the next beta.

This is data from many sources. Some of witch are probably outdated. I will look to that in more detail during next beta.

UPDATE - 28 August

Ive corrected old cooldown, mana and dmg values. Developers balanced Rodelero and Swordsman classes (and probably some others) to make their skills usable more often, with also reducing there dmg. Experiment and let us know. I started with basic idea so no important stats are lacking. If you will go pure STR or DEX then they can patch this, especially in early development phase, like we are in now.

bonus damage to “petrifie and frozen enemies” its ok, but i think its more useful if works in stunned/paralized/knockdown enemies, same thing to Rin Blow from peltasta give bonus damage to frozen, most part of time this bonus is useless and in “dungeon party” you do somethink more like tanking so still useless,
you need more damage when you grinding alone so if you have a “damage buff” i image you can use this alone, i can carry a cryomage in my bag after all!!! haha

rodelero rank2 skill Slithering can evade magic damage, but not status effect. rod2 maybe a good pvp choice in the future.
