I’m just going to say there is a reason you do not see five new threads a week about the Wizard, Archer, or Cleric tree being under-powered in it’s entirety. That should be enough of an obvious hint.
Nah, you people are mistaken. Its just a glich/error text. Instead Swordman, they are suppose to be “Punchbagman”. Or they could very well remove the problem (all Punchbagman tree) and put in shop some meat shield Punchbagman doll like iten that agro mobs. Or even make a slave pet Punchbagman that can taunt. Free slot for another mage/archer. All resolved.

i imagine a quick fix would be to add a double/triple hit chance onto some stat for swordsman.
RNG is not always an option. Swordsmen need something legit and accurate, not a gamble :S

One of the problems is the game box area for melee skills, the box is too small and almost all the swordman skills are aoe/land skills, players in PVP just go running to everyway, it’s very hard to not say impossible land a skill like bash, lunge and etc… because the time you finish the animation the player is in the other side of screen.
I think that swordman need is target skills, just like every others classes have, or some kind of jump/follow in some skills to make skills land in a easier way. IMC will have the rework/balance all sword classes to do that.

Honestly though. The literal only reason why an elitist party would want a Swordie is for Pelt. Otherwise you’re trash and subject to get meme’d on even if you actually deal some damage in actuality.
They function, there’s nothing wrong on a mechanical level aside the occassional bug glitch. The issue is not only optimal performance, but just how someone threw in the scaling in general for them and the game around them. Like, why does Pelt have defensively scaling attributes but most things in the trees have flat damage attributes? What kind of robbery…
Why do Swordies need 5~6 buffs to even be in the same game when everyone else only really worry about 2-3 at best aside a few buffing outliers? Not to mention that most of these buffs are terrible and really only work for the first 100 levels. I still believe that both Concentrate and Gung-Ho need percentile scaling and attributes, Concentrate dealing with Skill damage and Gung-Ho dealing with pure +PAtk/-PDef damage. There are many patch fixes that are needed with swordies and their individual classes, but changing those two will very quickly increase DPS. It’d even give some warrant into getting Swordsman C3 similar to how people get Wizard C3. This isn’t even counting the awkward hitbox romances and the atrocious cooldowns some skills shouldn’t even have in the first place.
I want to like Swordie. Some of their themes are actually really cool and in ideaology they are pretty unique. But their numbers on paper are atrocious, and this problem intensifies in PvE. Literally the meta build for Swordsmen involves the only route that actually HAS scaling buffs in terms of damage and defense in most of the circles.
PS: Pure Immunity Pain Barrier is a terrible idea at least in my opinion. That’d actually do a strange thing to the PvP meta and Archers would probably straight become irrelevant aside one shotting while being protected. I’d probably say an attribute that adds a straight 50% resistance to status effects but increases the cooldown by X seconds may remedy some issues in PvP.
There are a lot of issues with the swordies…
- The swordie tree is almost useless. Pain Barrier and Restrain are probably the only ones useful, the rest are garbage even at level 10 or 15.
- Swash Buckling is just too good that is a must in every build.
- SP cost in skills. You run out of mana in a lot of classes, sometimes I feel like I’m playing with a wizard but in a weak and melee version.
- Poor AoE in skills and autoattacks
- Attack speed nonexistent. The only way you can be “able” to do decent dps is with Deeds of Valor.

You come close to an archer? Hi this is evasion, boosted 25% by swift step, which is higher than your accuracy. Hi this is full draw and heavy shot, which knock you back. Hi this is a trap, this is invisible. Or just simply, hi this is 15k damage to the face

yes, the hitbox is too small… by the time the attack animation is done they are already gone… it is hard to land attack skills to moving targets… swordsman classes already are having a hard time chasing down enemies and the small hitbox adds to the suffering… also, why not introduce a cc/stun break skill rather than cc/stun prevention and make it available on the swordsman class only?
as of experience playing the game after 300+ hrs, here are my beef for the swordsman tree: very poor damage, very small hitbox, and no counter for CCs being the melee class… also after doing the shinobi hidden class quest I found out most of its skills have bugs… very disheartening as the job quest is really hard…

does the 30% chance to resist negative effects from sprinting and the 30% chance from pain barrier stack? so pain barrier + sprint to reach enemies?

the change to pain barrier in ktos changed it so it affects abnormal status effects too.
Weak. Typical swordys with lots of points in CON/DEX and barely any points in STR would struggle against classes like this because they can’t do any dmg back… obviously
Clerics are difficult because they can melee stun with mace, safety zone, and heal anytime they want to
There are ways to beat archer classes, but there are no ways to beat a Quarrel shooter class
Last time i logged in i had about 368 STR, 143 DEX, and 0 CON and i could pretty much 1 shot anybody just using Hexen Dropper
I agree that magic damage is quite powerful. The stat for magic defense is SPR and I don’t think people will stack that stat to a very high level when there is CON to give all around survival.
And swordies with high STR will just die because they have low HP, no evasion, and no magic defense. See the struggle now?
QS? You can’t even beat the basic archer class when full draw skewer you to the ground for 7 seconds
