[RANT] who tf told swordies to be dps?

yes. better not get a swordie at all. tho i really hope you dont mean parties should be obliged to take in no-pelt swordies at their expense. that’s a bigger problem right there.

Ktos got special costume for swordman c3 in tp shop.

Imo, not taking pelt on your build is fine.
But if a swordman acts like a ‘glass cannon damage dealer’ that never even try to put the aggro on himself, and only hit when the aggro is taken by someone else. Something is VERY wrong

i doubt many of them do that. i’m not sure you can ever be a glass cannon on a swordsman because of the base hp from your levels. jumping out of the way of the big magic attacks, maybe.

Swordies arent suppsoed to be your everyday Swashbuck machine, simple as that. They are just weak comparing to other classes atm.

i’ve come across a handful of sw 2 > hop > cataphracts who would always let the rest of the party head towards mobs.

which reminds me, if higher circles of sw is for pvp, why pick hop over sw 3? there are a lot of them out there that the arguments that says they are being unique and are just experimenting is not close to being valid and logical.

ofc. there are pvp swordsmen. but for those PvE-focused build to take just sw 2 when pelt 1 can easily go well with their intended build, it’s not optimal. what’s worse is people thinking it’s the better option and when proper logical arguments are thrown at them, they just shy away and argue that it’s a preference thing.

there’s not much point too that. i assume they only get hop for stabbing.

So in other words, according to you, if a swordman wants to PVE they are forced do be your Swashbuck machine?

The only reason i can see why this happened is because swordsman has some underwhelming damage, not counting a few niches.

But im all against “oh, youre a swordsman with pve in mind? you are our tank by default, what? you didnt take pletasta? what are you doing!?”

If a player wants to be a pve swordsman with DPS in mind, let them.
But hey, if youre really stuck in tunnel vision that swordsmen has to be a tank for all other classes at all costs in pve, just dont invite them to your party.

However,i too question why they would just go with Swordsman2 for PVE purposes as i think highlander or peltasta would be better choices

Hi, sorry for the late response. I might have enjoyed leveling a bit too much.

i dont know what your native tongue is (as is apparent in your command of the english language) so i will try to write properly in a way you’ll not misunderstand.

viability does not necessarily mean optimal. yes they are viable but as far as being optimized for specific purposes is concerned -especially for PvE - there will always be a better choice. for rank 2 swordsman, i think we have already established sw 2 does not give you much (or anything at all) for PvE but since as you mentioned in your guide it’s also for PvP, i dont think there’s anything wrong with that.

that’s the main problem, i believe most of us agree that the swordsman class is a frontliner class whether or not they are built for dps, tanking or utility. they are a melee class afterall. the problem starts when swordsman act like glass cannon builds that let wizards and archers go head in first into the mobs. this is probably one of the important premises we have to see before dwelling any further into any discussions on the role of swordsmen

  • Do I? If you were offended in any way just because we were discussing here rationally, i apologize. if your feelings were hurt, i dont think there’s any need to go for baseless accusations

no need to be defensive regarding this one, it’s not your fault people blindly follow everything they see on the internet.

Indeed, but some swordman didnt want to start hitting bosses and wait for their party to attack and get aggroed instead and then start whacking. Not all swordman obviously, but some of them do this for some odd reason

I think i havent explained myself clearly enough. The very problem I’ve been talking about is this one

i’m only speculating but i think the mindset here is that people want to take sw 2 is because they think they’d lose out so much on dps and they might be pushed to being meat shields if they take pelt. In some (tho i dare say most) PvE scenarios, getting pelt actually helps in dealing more damage not just for you but also for the whole party. so getting sw 2 over pelt for PvE dps is actually irrational. Try asking those sw 2 builds (e.g. sw 2 > hop > cata 3, sw 2 > hop 3 > dop, sw 2 > barb > x, etc.) why they took sw 2. they’ll probably tell you it’s for more dps in PvE. some are not even pvp-oriented.

This might be because of the next update that will give cards that give a % chance of stun, which means restrain from sw2 might be just enough to pvp with instead of going sw3 for full restrain.

if you have a 2h weapon and aren’t mostly built with dex you’ll probably never even use your pelt skills. there’s little reason to take pelt at all unless you plan to grab a shield and tank.

This is how I see it based on what your primary weapon will be.

2H sword/spear - Don’t bother with pelt, completely useless and you might as well reroll

1H spear - if you’re going at least hop2, then it makes sense to get pelt, s2 is ok too

Sword - if you’re going s3, don’t bother with pelt. S2, pelt is a choice, other than that it would be a must.

I just find that a lot of buffs from swordsman in general pale compared to other classes.

There is weapon switch in place so you can use 2 sets of weapons.

Pelt also have guardian which is good no matter what weapon you use if you are built for evasion.

Pelt isnt for every build but its on a case by case imo.

While niche, one jincan gu can slaughter your dex build.

Antidote bro.

You can just swashbuckle with a white sword and shield and switch back to 2h sword/spear. You’ll keep the aggro but lose the +25% max hp buff from swash attribute if you wanna pick pelt over highlander 1/sword 2.

You can also use 2h spear against mages and clerics and 1h spear + shield vs swordsman/archers.

The weapon swap exists. Use it.
