PC Gamer Review: 58/100 - "One nostalgia trip you might want to skip"

Doomsayers have a pattern.
Their premise: They don’t like something, so the game is bad.
Supported by:
Look, this site says it’s bad. (prime-examples: GW2 HoT reddit doomsayers asked people to give it bad reviews to speed up it’s death, SA players here asked players to punish IMC by giving it poor reviews and spreading the word).
Look, steam reviews say it’s bad. (such trustworthy source!)
Look, X ammount of players say it’s bad. (without knowing full sample size this source is irrelevant)
Look, the entire world says it sucks.
It’s like going to a movie, not liking it, and sticking around the theater telling everyone it sucks for weeks instead of just moving on.

Remember when ascended came out and doomsayers lost it for months in GW2… 4 years ago?
Or when ESO was totally going to tank… 2 years ago?
Or when SC2 was an insult to it’s own legacy and was doomed to fail… 4 years ago? According to doomsayers, all of these should’ve died years ago
It’ll repeat itself again and again and again…

Different games, different development circumstances, different beta feedback, different mistakes.

Yea, it’s not the same but I know you’ll do your damndest in logical gymnastics to insinuate they are.

There is one thing those other games did do though eventually: fix things. IMC can’t even manage that.

Game launched 5 days ago, did any of those games fix things 5 days after launch?
How long did it take GW2 to fix it’s end-game? Pre-Living world endgame was mainly dungeons, it took’em what, half a year or a full year before fixing the most well-known bugs that were around since beta?
Judging SWTOR based on it’s launch would be extremely unfair, or take Aion for example, one of the most screwed up launches ever, game is still around and kicking.

Once again, judging a MMO a few days after launch is simply worthless.

Do try again, I’m sure you can do better.

Good lord it’s like the Mayans man, and look at us now!

If he likes this game he should be focusing more on why he likes the game instead of badmouthing and used it as a fact, that way more people will play this game. What im saying is its better to let the people decide themselves if the game is good or not instead of spouting his bias opinion.

50k concurrent is nowhere near embarrassing, why are you saying 50k below playerbase games are shits? What are these games you think more successful than TOS? IMC is not scaring off its playerbase, people like you whos been doing that. IMC goal is to make this game successful, you on the other hand is doing the opposite scaring people off, check your facts.

That isnt true at all. With time and effort the validity of an opinion is listen too. Why would you listen to some manipulative tart hiding the pickles underneath this tongue?

You know in reality, validation is given to those who have successfully gain the knowledge AND EXPERIENCE from what theyve done.

And hey, Im ■■■■■■■ proud if im a white knight because Im holding people accountable for their awful terrible deductive ability. Unlike you who wants to be a simpleton and ignorant. Im sorry if youre defending someone on the basis of “opinion and freedom of speech” when thats not what this is about. Its about the validity of the perspective. Is if they have a real fair acknowledgement of the game rather then some half bit opinion on what they dont ■■■■■■■ like.

Now grow up, and actually get a brain.

additionally, the way you use white knight is the same way conservative racists use liberal. You definitely identify with an ignorant mind-set.

and here we have exactly what Zipzo talked about in OP.

“he’s wrong the game gets good after 200 hours”
“lol imc didn’t pay them enough”
“reviews don’t matter!”
and most of all
“I’m so proud to be stupid”

it’s always funny when these people tell you to grow up.

I guess the validity of someone who plays for 10 minutes is worth more then someone who plays for an entire day? Thats the unintelligible rationality that people got defending the article.

Thats where people need to grow up. For MMOs you cant play it for a day and have good opinions on it. MMOs arnt like that. And the fact that he is video game journalist doesnt mean that his opinion is valid regardless. I dont think you really care in the end but thats the reality of people with good and bad opinions is that they need to have the background to support it. If not its just flat out deformation.

Reviews are still reviews, the last movie of Jake Gyllenhaal for me is overated, and I found the movie really bad. But if people rated it that much that mean some people have this kind of taste for that movie. And I won’t tell those people that they are idiots or anything else because they have a different taste

If I would really care about the movie itself I would have a constructive mindset say what I didn’t like about it and what would be the best way for me to improve it.

It’s the same thing for games. Review is not printed in rocks and don’t define without any doubt how something is.

you also seem to be forgetting that the person in question who “played for 10 minutes”, as you put it, has most likely reviewed about a dozen more games than your average joe.

and if it’s validity you want, what about the people that have played the game for a long time, like myself, and agree with a lot of his points? Invalid?

How dense can you be?

Negative reviews plastered all over the internet = less new players = less revenue for IMC = game is dead.

“It doesn’t matter because I’m enjoying it” lmfao.

If this were a legitimately good game it would have nowhere near as many bad reviews as it does currently.

The keyword here is eventually. You have not given IMC enough time before jumping into conclusions. It will be best to reserve your verdict until a few months later before saying they did/did not do their job.

Their initial proposal was a 3 months period before F2P hopefully to have enough time and manpower to fix the bugs. The community sort of forced them to set to 1 month. So, do give at least until Jul to see what they have done. :3

This is the kind of posts I don’t understand. Yes there is bad review on internet. And? Whats the goal of saying this? Are you guys gonna try to convince forever people who enjoy the game to actually dislike it or not try it?
You obviously can’t do that, thus you are losing your time.

People will never come to an agreement on wheter is good or bad, alive or dead. As people enjoy things differently.

Being constructive about what you don’t like is the only smart way and logical way to spend time on this forum. Otherwise, what are you even doing here?

Dozen games, in the F2p MMORPG world you can play a dozen games. And you can immediately dislike it for clunky animations and non-harmonious graphics.

The fact is, to actually get a good play through on MMORPGs there are level thresholds. There is major content. There is social interaction.

As someone who obsessively plays mmorpgs. I can tell you that playing this game below level 100 wont give you much of a good opinion to review.

For playing video games, using “Ive played tons of others” dont apply to reviews. That fact doesnt mean anything. Its about the genre and the game itself. Its about experience the game to the fullest that makes it valid.

You cant just go in and say “Oh I hated the game and art so I played till lv 30, and stopped. THis is my dissertation, and I have thousands of games Ive played that should make you listen to me”. Thats not how it works.

Noone’s saying the review is wrong, it’s simply what you expect from someone who didn’t even reach the 3rd circle, so it misses plenty of good stuff and other crappy ■■■■ most of it mentioned on the first few posts in this topic.
Our well known forum doomsayers are blowing it out of proportion parading it around like the ultimate piece of evidence agaisnt the game.

Except any level person can agree with his sentiments. I have almost 2 lvl 200+ characters and I agree with everything.

Saying experience in reviewing games doesn’t matter is like comparing these types of professional review sites to steam reviews. that’s asinine.
and did you read the review? the dude outright states the game is fun (and that the art was great, which you seem to be hammering on here, by the way), but it’s plagued by so many problems, from technical issues like server instability and poor optimization, to design flaws like the awful class balance, that it’s hard to stick with it.

and he’s entirely correct. it definitely does not take 100 hours and 200 levels in to see all the problems mentioned in that review. I’d know, I have 220 hours into the game and I agree with the reviewer. What does that make me then? dumb?

something else also said earlier in the thread is that the reviewer represents every new player that knows nothing about the game and jumps into it blind. and is that wrong?

Is it ok to jump into a game that you know nothing about?
That’s like the people who wanted to grind that complained about GW2’s lack of grind - they even made a manifesto agaisnt grinding - was it the company’s fault or the player’s?
The player has to make an informed decision.

You are one of the best examples of ignorant neckbeards. How old are you? 11? Let me guess. The bad reviews are the only ones that matter because it’s convenient.

Why can’t you just acknowledge that the game is good?
Honestly, you are so ignorant that it hurts.
Sadly you’re not ignorant, you’re just stupid. Giving you information won’t fix that unfortunately. You’re just dumb for life.
making conpiracy theories

It’s actually well established that the gaming journalism is very corrupt, and reviews are frequently bought. I guess you’re just super ignorant, but I’m not at all surprised.

i found this game fun, even when i am a wizzard 2 playing solo, lots of secrets waiting to be revealed, every class is viable, i think its just about preferences. Another thing is to enjoy the game on your own pace, no need to be a perfectionist because it’s super hard to reveal all those secrets alone. Play with your friends and have fun.
