My Experience in CBT so far... mildly disappointing

My brief experience in playing the CBT.

  1. Horrendous server connection issues, especially the infamouse ****ID-ish error (but not as worse as Day 1 Diablo 3). You’re playing on a channel then you get instantly kicked (the channel is almost full, indicator has four circles). I hope this will be fixed before OBT.

  2. Aiming is so clunky for keyboard and mouse users, tabbing and locking kinda sucks a bit, option for automatic snapping to the target should be available. Rebinding keys not available, had to use a java prog from one of the player (he got annoyed on how the preset controls were), all classes must be usable properly with no preference to the controller setup.

  3. If you are using a very high end gpu, your fps should be at 150-250+ (which is fine as long as your display also can handle it with proper refresh rates) game has a frequent spike that drops your fps as low as 67. Turning on and off vsync sometimes makes your game crash. Other visual effect seems to work, preferred it to be on a separate tab - also which got me wondering what kind of API - DX version is this made for? DX9/10? We hope for optimization for future users who has higher ver of DirectX(11-12). Please do take the time to implement this further.

  4. Talking to the npc regarding the quest and or item that is encompassed by the quest is terrible; when people clustered to the any said point it’s harder to click/select a quest-related-item - this should be fixed so that in any apparent proximity players should have the will to do so. Mistranslated text and no flavor text to some quest still apparent, totally understandable however should be in line for priority.

  5. Rescaling & augmentation of ALL HUD should be present, the current one in this CBT is lackluster often times not as desired. Customization of UI is greatly appreciated!

  6. I hope you guys include a PROPER quest indicator, quests should be obvious for all players to see, most of the quest in lower levels are quite easy to miss. A bigger or a brighter indicator can a lot of help, if there can be a recommended quest pop up message it would be great (like the system in FFXIV where there would be a list for quest available for the users in that certain area and other daily quest etc.)

  7. Please include a game feature where who hits first the mob shall only be granted the exp and drop, mobs respawn rate can alleviate the troubles of other players whining about not having to get a mob (change channel is another solution here but few are using their brains to realize this).

Other things like class oriented balancing and bots inevitability won’t be mentioned any further.

Goodluck devs and publishers, this is gonna take a lot of time to deploy properly. I suggest taking a big time off in polishing the game before OBT another 6-8 months won’t hurt.

for #4 you can just be near the npc and press spacebar to interact.

That will do, but how about most of the things you do in a quest (esp in the mines) where you have to position yourself whilst facing up. This isn’t early 2000s anymore, there should be a proper and fine ways to do things.

For # 1 its to be expected. and to your comment about D3, game is horrible. nuff said.

yeah it is, which kinda breaks my heart since I’ve played D1-D2 :frowning: - PoE is good but often seems lacking.

  1. its a cbt lol, we’re possibly half a year from release
2.I have 0 issues with this on cleric, as a matter of fact it works better for me on cleric as my spells go down in the direction my cursor is
  2. i agree but this is cbt
  3. i havent had this issue as left clicking for me does nothing to other player characters, only npcs and quest items
  4. theres a huge lack of options all together
  5. STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP JUST STOP. Did you even read the CBT2 faq? It’s intentional. Go explore, find NPCs, talk with them, learn something from them.
  6. this is a horrible idea and you should feel bad. yes I understand melee has plenty of instant kills but theres better ways to handle this

I agree, game has flaws that need attention, and IMC should fix them. I just don’t agree with quest markers for everything, because it will take away some of the exploration and create space for it to become a very casual MMO like many others. I’m fond of this feeling that I’m playing some kind of old school RPG that requires me to explore, try to understand what’s going on in the story so I can figure out how to advance. I love to find some hidden quests with not so obvious progression.

Most of these issues are from tos being in cbt. Now the first hit deserves all the exp and what not is silly. If you pick up a candy bar at Wal-Mart(your first hit), but I buy it(me actually contributing most if not all the dmg) you believe that you still deserve to eat the candy bar?(the exp/items). But lucky for you the tos goddesses are kind and give exp/items/quest kills to those who do a minimum amount of dmg. Hopefully that showed the error in first hit deserves all theory😃. And secondly I wish more mmo’s would follow tos questing system, which actually gives you a sense of explorarion. Which ends up allowing you to see more of the beautiful world the developers created.

Have you seen how people explore in Guildwars 2 and FFXIV? Talk to me when you guys clearly understand what I am pointing out. There should be a fine line for improvement since they already did CBT in korea for this, mis-translation aside. Connection issue will be inevitable but how developed it is at this state of the game is questionable. This is just a form of criticism that aims in suggesting improvements to the game. I want this game to be better rather than some bot-ridden, uber grindy (I like grinding btw, but not that mindless thing), imbalanced, and archaic form of MMO.

Rather than defending what you know is quite detrimental in the long run, why not suggest things so they can improve them. You guys keep clinging on nostalgia, don’t bank on it, this should be a better game even if it becomes a F2P.

Actually iCBT1 is much better in terms of server’s stability and connection than this cbt, it makes me sad, I felt like I wasted my leave for nothing…

Thanks you!!!

now I don’t have to type all that :stuck_out_tongue:

do you know what a stress test is? also cbt1 had a limited amount of testers

Do you know how to read? OP just said that, and I just point out my exp, from playing iCBT1 to 2.

Now that is sad dude, thanks for the insight! They should have improve if what you said is really the case.

1st CBT is 5k people, this CBT is 150k people.
do you expect them to predict how the server goes?
just give them time and they will resolve it.
taking this game launch globally is a big deal.

They expected it, since they are the ones who are giving out the keys - remember it’s also a server evaluation if they can handle it - but they imminently they didn’t. Yes, also this is why I gave my inputs for them - I even said they can postpone for like 6-8 months more before OBT so they can polish things out because frankly this cbt isn’t as good as the first one (disregarding the number of players playing at the moment, UI + gameplay wise shouldn’t be affected by the current resurgence of players).

I agree with this thing of exploration. I think this game is trying to give everyone the old-game experience. I mean, most of players today don’t know how to play games with some hard parts. Games are not challenging anymore, and I’m happy that Tree of Savior is a bit challenging.

But to the author, nice topic. We need to discuss what is good and what is bad in the game.

Exploring in GuildWars 2? Where I have a map indicator for every nook and cranny? No thanks. No, quests do not have to be obvious for everyone, this type of dumbing down has been one of the worst things to happen to MMORPG’s. I do not want to feel leashed by indicators and sparkling path lines. It’s condescending to some of us veteran players and to be frank, some of us really appreciate the old school feeling of having to put in effort to explore without the guarantee of finding anything worthwhile. Thanks.

it is a CBT. that is why he is saying it. his post in the general feedback section as well. better tell it now that say it in the OBT. we are testing the game for bugs, playability and such. imc needs this types of feedbacks and opinions if they want a game to stand against other mmorpgs.

also, op also posted in a well intended manner imo.

wrt 6. The maps are laid out in such a way they’re easy to explore and find stuff. No worries about huge giant open maps like RO.

wrt 7. One thing I like from modern MMOs is everyone getting credit for participating/tagging a monster and instanced drops. No worries about KSing and stealing drops.

wrt 2. I can agree that aiming and targeting is a bit weird, might be due to lag that the game can sometimes have trouble targeting the mob closest to you and causes you to aim your spell across the room at a non aggro mob.

In any case I think your post is well done, OP.
