I completely agree with you OP and I hope there will not have any king of exp boost cash shop item, but I know it will probably do ;( That’s why I love P2P or B2P model, everyone is equal.
Yes low rate is perfect for tos, like ragnarok,
but in iCbt was a little too much =p
my personal opinion, mid rate is more logic now.
dont compare when ragnarok, there is very few online game, and concept of MMORPG is still fresh.
if the grinding too hard and consume time, ppl will give up and play another game.
I’m happy with low or medium rate, though I’d prefer if it wasn’t too low.
That being said, the combat and gameplay looks like so much fun that I’d happily grind.
I can’t entirely agree. With the amount of classes and the amount of mistakes people can make while building something they like - imagine levelling 3-4 characters on the rate you speak of before you’re happy with your class.
Right now there are no resets and it is unsure whether there will be any, with there being a big chance for none.
I’m thinking 45 - 60 days would be more then enough to get to max level. You have to realize, regardless how fast you get there - you will still have the endless equipment grind, that will take at least as long as getting to max level until someone is satisfied with their items ( which doesn’t stop the process, oh no you still look for upgrades ).
For me, grinding is just the requirement to get to the pvp content. I don’t mind doing it, but I don’t want to be locked in an endless overly frustrating one either.
+1 for mid-rate or low-rate. I wouldn’t want myself able to reach high level in just a weeks of grind and quest besides I love reading stories in-game.
I’m all for a nice grind myself
man i have to say, u are idiot, in RO i spend 2days to get lv99
only one sentence: I do not want another clone of WOW as RO2
Totally agree. Its the same difference between swallowing food or tasting food. The first one gives no pleasure.
yeah, we have the same idea about the experience rate. I prefer the low rate.
Low servers do we gain experience, literally. <3
for me exp or drop boosters in cash shop are BAD, BAAAAAD BAAAAAAAD if they add that they will be making a HUGE mistake. plz dev consider this
- I believe 90% RO players are working adult now, heavy grinding is very unsustainable for the real life as well as gaming experience, it will only invite for botting software and ultimately kill the game fast.
- Well, ToS has probably up to lv400-500, how will you compare it now? Even RO nowadays can be maxed in 2-4 months with intensive manual play.
- I believe Guild Wars 2 has did great, where level is never a focus, however it is more about equipment grinding, where it comes from wide variety of game modes. (While those god equipment are not really imba over-powered but only to satisfy those players who wanted to feel superior toward others)
- With the Class and Build variety in ToS, it is not a good idea to create 1 character and stick it all way. Instead it should be fast pace which allow ordinary player to at least focus 2 characters. In this ways, peoples still able to enjoy different characters while only focus 1 main character to grind for the best.
you read what you write ? in ANY aspect of life, dedication always give prizes, if any person can do a thing for 12 h 24/7, she/he deserve the highest lvl. i cant play a game more than 3–4 hrs but is ok man, play your way and have fun !
What people dont seem to understand that grinding is not neccessarily a bad or boring thing. Tos got no endgame right now. Leveling IS the game. So it has to take long. But here is the issue: Grinding in this game ISNT fun. When you follow the quests and use the Exp cards when you got them you will hit a heavy wall at level 75. I cleared every single map up to level 85. So i need to grind 10 levels now so i can quest a little more. Here is the issue: This game doesnt have good grind Spots. I´m playing a Wizard, Wizard is only good at leveling because of the aoe skills. Now: Most mobs arent agressive, if they are, the area where you can aggro them are small, many mobs are ranged or if there are good mobs, there are only really few of them. So creating a mob of 10 Monsters (when i grind them on my level 10 mobs would me around 0.5% base exp in total) and aoeing them isnt possible, That is where the first problem begins, when you have long cooldown on skills and you can only kill 2-3 mobs it would take hours and hours just to get one level. Below level 100 already. And lets be serious, when you only have aoe skills because that is how the skill system is balanced killing single mobs ISNT fun. It´s dead boring waiting for the cooldown to finish when you cant even pull multiple monsters together for the time being. In fact the beta is out and i´m already quitting the game, not because of low exp or because the leveling would take long, but the reason is leveling isnt fun in this game. Every good grindspot is so full that you cant level there at all and the most time of you running around is to find a good grind spot where isnt anyone else: but you wont find it. So yeah, i dont have trouble with grinding normally, i had many level 99 chars at RO but in tos the grinding system is seriously bad., Bad grinding system for a grinding game = game over.
It depend the positioning of this game, depend artstyle I assume it is aiming for casual players or old RO players reunion casually in warm environment. And not highly uber competitive gameplay.
I’m okay for equipment grinding, but not really level grinding.
Level grinding will cause few problems:
- Guild sustainability, big level gap will caused social divide, low level players will always be isolated (due to level restriction in dungeon) and lack of motivation to play because can’t play together. These players are usually busy in real-life or late comers. Elsewhere, fast players will find lonely soon. It will become same social ecology as other game. Or slow players will demand for bot in order to chase with colleagues. Unless we have mechanism to tackle this issue.
- I understand true gamers want “Efforts will play”, there is where equipment grinding take place instead of level grinding.
At the same time, I agree the current development lack of late-game content, but it is naturally that it just cbt2! So I think the core gameplay of 1st release is still not too high level cap, but players able to familiar with the game with few classes and grind for equipment on the level cap. Until next phase, players can focus on their favorite class and introduce advance gameplay. imc should not too ambitious on 1st release.
That’s simply not true, what exactly is the difference between grinding 2 hours every day as a person with a job or grinding 12 hours a day as a unemployed person?
Both people will eventually reach the goals that they’ve set for themself with roughly the same amount of time invested
Real life wise - It’s stupid and waste of time to do something repetitive, boring and non-productive. Just not many peoples can bear with this, especially those have family to take care.
Gaming wise - 2hours barely do anything, probably 30min+ for chatting or looking for party/channel with good spots, left with 1h+ struggle in a peak hour with full of lags and crowded maps. At the end, only encourage more botters and jam the server even more.
In the long run, like 3months? It is very big difference even for 2h vs 4h. You might frustrated when your friend is so high level and you can’t chase it or play with them anymore, then give it up.
“Time invest -> more rewards?” Yes, u got it, equipment grinding in various game modes with require manual plays but not on open map. The gaming quality in these game modes (PvP/Dungeon) is better than lvling grinding on open map.
If you only look the play time, it is not enough to compare.
But the quality, it made huge difference, lvl grinding is cheap trick to stay players and doesn’t make a game so special.
Well, is not that I anti lvl-grinding, but for ToS with so many builds to explore. avg 4hours in 2months to max a character is enough for me, extra time to play different character.
To me game quality means that I have to put a considerable amount of effort into decent reward, anything else just feels boring and shallow to me, such as the current questing system. Dungeons and quests are really just grinding with a different flavour, but rather than having the freedom of finding your own way of grinding the most efficient way you are just being led on a rail. PvP can be appealing if it’s more than just a little arena where people spam each others skills on each other, but we will still have to wait and see if the PvP in this game will be worth anyones time.
Real life wise - It’s stupid and waste of time to do something repetitive, boring and non-productive
Then why play videogames? Please refrain from using that stupid argument, if you really only cared about doing new and exciting things which will bring you forward in life you would be doing some kind of recreational task such as making music, drawing or some other kind of hobby where you produce things
The way I see it most people just use games nowadays to get a quick and easy feeling of reward. But if that’s really what matters to you then there are plenty of mobile games out there which are designed for that.
I’d find it much more interesting to see a game reward me for overcoming hardship and making me feel like I’ve really earned something, and these kind of games have become very rare.
