Because of the number of skills? How many skills can you cast in that 5 seconds window?
Instead of a fluid game play like spear lunge 1 group and kill them, then serpentine another and kill them, now dragoon is shoved into 1 trick pony of stacking debuff and dethrone x2 + dragon tooth in that 5 seconds window. Iâm sure lower rank skills will never be used in that window, ever again.

I Think Bazooka is still not good, other skills have become ok-ish. With a skill like Kneeling shot and have a horrible attack speed and lowish damage (especially if you arenât QS) then, it really is bad. I donât even have a cannoneer.
But you have a point too, whole skill set of Mergen is really flawed especially that âgroundâ skill Arrow rain that can be jumped on.

So your solution is, instead of stacking two debuffs and killing a group of mobs, you only get to use one debuff and then donât even do enough damage to kill that group of mobs. I donât see how this helps swordsmen.
If each debuff last 10 seconds, it is enough to unleash many skills upon a group, which will be enough to kill them (barely maybe, but still enough). Now you have 1 choice: stack debuff, dethrone x2 + dragon tooth, sit wait for debuff cd, repeat. Lower rank skills will never be used because not only they are weak, they canât be cast inside debuff window as well.
And you have to consider the case of even after stacking debuff, those 5 seconds isnât enough to kill a group, now what will you do? Itâs a typical case of 20 seconds of x1.5 damage vs 5 seconds of x3 damage
This is technically denying any dragoon build without spear lunge damage as well.
i think the devs shot themselves in the foot with these damage bumps.
But itâs 5 seconds of 2.5x damage and then 7 more seconds of 1.5x damage, then 8 seconds of downtime before you can Serpentine again.

Discerning Evil is one of those super underrated niche skills that I think weâre going to see more of for gamebreaking strategies like this. Everyone totally wrote off Melstis until it was used to beat Earth Tower, after all.
Imo, bazooka is for the path of the auto attackers, qs3 in this case.
For non qs3, we can max the other skills and ignore bazooka.

Ugh, serpentine debuff is a rank 8 skill of a specific build. If it is not supposed to be strong then what is the saving grace of swordman now?
Melstis works for everything, for example
Extend sterea trofth so that your team can be invincible, then chrono pass to rinse and repeat. And guess what, they arenât even rank 8.
Using melstis as a counter argument for serpentine alone is not correct.
Swordman has been the underdog for so long, now a little utility they bring to the team play get cut in half. Would you build a physical party, with a pardoner 3 (highly unpopular everywhere I can see) or would you build the above?

No it doesnât - you cannot extend Sterea Trofh. Thatâs not a buff on you, itâs a ground effect and it will expire as soon as either Sterea or Chortasmata expires, whichever comes first.
Team? Youâre buffing your own damage by 100% - whoever else youâre buffing is a bonus at this point. This argument would be worth something if said buff didnât actually work on yourself (like Lethargy or Decay).
Youâre right in that Swordsman has been the underdog for so long, and it was long coming for a buff. But throwing stacking 50-100% damage debuffs on multiple classes is not the way to go - thatâs just blatant, unecessary powercreep.
Honestly, itâs also sad that this all came out of one thing: For some reason they didnât want to nerf Fletcher. So hey whatâs the solution? Of course, lets buff x and y classes to be even stronger than one that was already way above anything else in the game!
I did suggest for the debuff doesnât stack instead of nerfing the duration. And yet for some reasons sh*tstorm was coming down.
thats EXACLTY the problem.
swordsmen werent even a bad class before the r8 buffs, its just that imc for some reason refused to nerf the elememes and fletchers which for some reason imc thinks its ok to let them keep 1 shotting everything.
Not worth placing points in given the damage and the limitations it impose on the cannoneer.
