Keep the grinding aspect of the game

First off, I maybe the only few that really enjoy a grindy game. I do consider myself a no life gamer outaide of my normal 9-5 job, other than that I do spend most of my time gaming and that’s where most of my social interaction comes from.

Not saying there are no down sides to ToS and this is sorely based on my personal opinion so please take it with a grain of salt.

why I like grindy games:

  1. Games that cater to the western community tend to get really boring fast, mainly because no life gamers can usually get to max level within days of the games’ release. After that you are pretty much left with little to no content because the developers could not keep up with content updates.

  2. It is actually more casual player friendly if you think about it, compare to the big name MMOs out there that require you to have premades or a solid raid groups (10+ players) for end game contents. The only way you will feel pressured by the grind is if you are pushing yourself way too hard to get to the “top”.

  3. Quests are linear and gets boring real fast. Unless you are the type of person that is really into the lore and side stories, many people these days skip dialogs and rely completely on the “tl;dr” section of the quests (aka quest summary) to finish them. Sure you will encounter some really exciting questline throughout your gameplay but 99% of the time it will be the same old “kill this, or collect these” type of quests.

ToS can definitely improve the grinding aspect of the game though…

  1. of course fixing the monster and exp scaling.

  2. Adding more channels for higher lvl maps but only limit world boss spawns on one channel.

  3. Adding more side areas with equally good exp rates. players like options and different places to grind instead of “oh, demon prison till you are 165”

  4. Improving and expanding equipments’ drop rates but reducing the amount they are worth to npcs. A successful grindy game usually makes players feel rewarded for grinding for hours, whether it’s money making or finally getting the gear or recipes they seek. Take maplestory as an example (yes I know I am comparing apples to oranges) but the grind actually feels rewarding in that game when you get items worth millions and leveling up in the process.

  5. More goddess statues just for convenience in travelling. I do agree that some zones are perfectly fine without a goddess statue, but running pass 3-4 maps to get to your destination can be tiring especially for the cleric and mage classes.

  6. keeping spawn rates consistent. Don’t give me a map with fast - instant spawn rates then slap me with a map where I feel like I have to compete with everyone for kills.

I love to grind?

Incoming hate in 3…

i away read the lore of side and main quests (i was super curios to know what is corrupting the farms land)

Tbh im one of those people who skip dialogue box. I play MMO to interact with other players not for story. To grind, hunt and pvp with them.
I agree with your post OP

I agree the grindy nature of the game is fine at its core, it’s just the current implementation and several issues with scaling and effort vs. reward makes the grinding more tedious than it should be. The linearity also doesn’t help one bit. I enjoy grinding with a party in a high density area but even in demon prison I can keep 2 rooms cleared in a party of 2 which means there is only room in every channel for 6 players to farm optimally. That’s a big, big problem considering that is one of the highest density areas in the entire game.

The game definitely needs more map options at the higher levels for sure (each map should probably have a couple alternatives so to speak).

Hurr… I don’t know maplestory, however I don’t think increasing loot drops feels rewarding to ppl because they would have to go to town more often for the same money, thus breaking the focus on grinding/farming. Also, finding the sixth pair of those boots doesn’t feel too exciting, or does it?

It would be great to have a system that randomizes gear like in diablo. Might be too late for a change like this though…

Less quests, less bosses, less instance-based grinding. All of the above would make me feel like continuing to play this game that so heavily emphasizes party-based play. Too bad I don’t speak Korean, because IMC doesn’t seem to give much of a care about our opinion as far as major gameplay changes go.

Any older and you people would be spouting dust. Honestly, your ideas are archaic, they’re dead and they certainly do not work towards better socializing, if anything your ideas are more toxin inducing than anything else.

Next you’ll want PKing in every zone.

Well, do you wanna play linear only-quest instance-based corridor casual game? And why is grinding bad for socializing? Do those quests really require any socailizing?
Give people different ways of making same progress. Noone’s taking that quest-way of game from you. It’s just not interesting for some people to make progress only by doing identical quests from lvl to lvl.

You know the funniest part about this? iCBT1 was 6x harsher grind (it was only 3x before, but now that they added the 2x, it has become 6x) and because of this I stayed around maps like Tenet Garden, Veja Ravine, etc far longer than I did on both my characters in iCBT2. Why? Because you were forced to grind. Forcing players to grind makes them stay on the map longer, and as proven by my experiences in iCBT1, this forces players to group up if they want to get in on the EXP. When you group up, you’re very likely to socialize.

How many times have I joined a group this CBT when I didn’t have to? Well, I did make some parties to join instance dungeons, which were forced on me. If I don’t count those though, the number of times is a tiny fraction and it was only to help those who needed a boss finished out of generosity.

The fact of the current ToS is that due to the nature of quests, it actually pays better to solo. It’s not like you need a party to complete any of the quests without difficulty, and because the EXP is in the quest rewards and not killing the monsters itself, you don’t lose anything by soloing like you would lose EXP by not maxing out on EXP/hr. Giving us less quests would sever that lifeline to EXP cards and would make us party up more to catch up on levels via the classical grind.

it goes both ways actually and it all depends on your playstyle.

The only only time I would group to grind is when I know everyone will be at the top of their game (ie playing with my friends). But unfortunately most pugs will have that person that isn’t pulling his or her weight and actually slows the exp flow.

Personally I rather play solo than leveling with pugs even if the exp is significantly better. I don’t like to feel rushed or pressured when I am leveling, especially grinding.

Exactly. But there’s the second part about grinding - currently there are just really not enough places and mobs there for it. I could grind whole Workers Room zone in Mauzoleum Chapel 1F solo (which is btw one of the best rooms in terms of mobs density which I’ve seen in the game). But it’s only 1 room on 1 channel for all the players of those lvls. It’s very hard to find a place worth grinding even solo and it’s even harder to get one for party.

I agree with the topic author 's suggestions. I like grind games but ToS needs several improvements on this. Grinding needs to be fun, challenging and rewarding, and, it does not have any of that until now.
It has been tiresome, boring and unbalanced. It’s not a surprise that so much players have complained about this, i understand then. This game didn’t offer a fun grind for me, who likes it, imagine for those who doesn’t.
Sincerely and sadly, ToS feels more like a cheap mobile game than a good MMO to me.

I dont know if ita just me but I feel like there isnt any hardcore grind in the game at all except farming for materials but as far ad leveling up, the quests are more then enough.

Quest won’t be enough if they lower the current rates, we can save up exp cards now for the walls we hit but it will be a different story when the game goes live.

we will see how it is when KOBT starts

I’ve joined only one party throughout a vast majority of maps including multiple dungeon runs.

The only words that were ever said were “are we done?” Asking if everyone had completed their quests.

Forcing people into situations like these does not promote socializing.

Good gameplay, exciting content and engaging boss fights promote socializing, not brain dead grinding.
