Just hit Hoplite C3 :D Went ahead and tested Spear Throw for myself

I see lots of conflicting information regarding this skill, but ofcourse most of the videos you’ll see on youtube for this skill is in fact oudated.

I saw one where there was some kind of loading bar lol, but yea that’s removed.

After some testing (it’s only lv3 right now), it’s actually a beast and very spammable in melee range. There is actually no loading time or cooldown, it’s only limited by its long animation.

Haven’t had the chance to test this skill in depth but I’m sure the info I got from Cathexis is correct.

Here’s another video as well. It’s not mine though I think this can be used as a reference

The only reason it hasn’t completely replaced my normal attack is becuz it does drain my mana pretty fast. I’m guessing it will get a lot more spammable when I level up.

A good use for this skill is when you’re surrounded by a ton of mobs and you want to kill them fast.

Now you may ask why would you want to spam spear throw when you can use stabbing. The reason is because firstly stabbing may be on cooldown and secondly, stabbing’s hitbox is just pitiful. You’ll likely not hit everyone with stabbing. Not to mention you need to prep stabbing with spear lunge and pain barrier. However, spear throw will hit everyone, it has base 10 AoE ratio with finestra, and will be 12 AoE ratio when you reach lv170 and get geras spear. Its hitbox is actually big!

It’s pretty obvious at this point that stabbing and pierce are the boss killers, and that spear throw is hoplite’s answer to earth wave.

This skill really falls short at rank 7

The animation is dreadfully long and you are better using your sp for something decent

I’m also hoping that dragoon’s kit is much better than spear throw myself.

With spear throwing in my kit now magic bosses just got a lot easier since when you can’t be close to them you can at least throw a spear lol. The damage isn’t insane or anything (at least without geras spear) but it’s still something.

Loving this skill so far. It’s definately a mainstay in my rotation now. No idea why this skill gets such a bad rep.

Do u think it is worth it to max it? i will make a hop 3 soon and i just realised how bad of a skill Pierce is overall: no overheat, 1 hit and quite long cd, probably being level 10 or 15 wont make sh.it of a difference because of that, so my option is going Pierce 9 and max spear throw.

Definite max or don’t bother going into hop 3

Lol what? There’s no need to " max it or don’t bother going into hop3", hop 3 offers much more than spear throw. Finestra 15 and stabbing 15 are beasts, and pierce is awesome too. 1 level in throw is sufficient in most builds, some just skip it all together. Spamming ST also lowers your durability faster.

Is that proven or is it just an urban legend from long time ago?

I “spam” spear throw and never noticed any of this durability loss problem. My weapon decays at the same rate as my armor.

Let me see if i can find the topic i saw about it, just let me finish my dungeon run here.

What I’m saying is that I have spear throw in my kit. I use it very often. I don’t have any kind of durability issues since the weapon decays at the same rate as my armor.

If that was a “thing”, it’s most likely no longer a “thing”.

I may have seen that same topic you have, but feel free to link it.

Spear Throw does not lower durability faster than any other attack. I use it plenty no problem. Probably a dumb rumor from someone testing spear throw and saw their durability drop by 1, without realizing that even auto attacking the air decreases durability.

Yeah, i just asked my friend ingame to check it for me and he says it doesn’t drop faster. Sorry about the false argument. Either way i think 1 point into ST is more than enough though :S

I mostly like Spear Throw because its the best skill to use with Double Pay Earn on this build to guarantee the kill. Went 5/5 on it since losing a few points in Pierce didn’t matter to me.

Ya true, but it honestly has tons of uses elsewhere in PvE if you look for it. Not even counting PvP use.

That and pierce sucks lol. (It’s decent on bosses sure, but on regular mobs I don’t know why I bother using it (I pretty much don’t), it does like a fraction of what stabbing does)

The problem with spear throw is it’s long animation and having it easily be cancelled from from any cc especially with bigger mob pulls. It’s nice for clearing trash mobs but with elites especially when soloing you’re prone to taking more damage than jump autos. I barely used it before I got to dragoon. As a dragoon I still don’t use it. At least Pierce i still use for boss bursting.

This was all before geras became cheap though.

I’m too attached to pierce tbh it just hits like a truck in large/boss type monsters, i rather have it’s base damage increased than ST, lot’s of monsters on level 180+ are medium sized, and my pierce was still hitting them for a fair amount. Before deleting my hop 3 i barely used it and in my new one ( still lvl 120) i’m not planning on getting more than 1 level in it, just for the sake of trash mob killing.

My opnion:

Stabbing >>>>>>>>>>> all

If you are positioned correctly you can easily kill a lot of mobs, I have ST at 5 and sincerely just use it for range purpose, the animation is just to long to make ir better than stabbin + pierce + AA at melee.

Just lure the monsters, make them stay together, use pain barrier, when you are with some distance, turn to face them and start to use stabbing, the spear attack range + aoe ratio bonus make almost all mobs get killed before reaching to you. Dmg is way higher than spamming ST.

Try reaching rank 6 and 7. You’ll barely have enough sp to cast all your skills let alone spear throw. I was spamming that skill before when i was hop3 even change my brandish to geras but when i reached ranked 7 i reskill to transfer all skillpoint of throw to pierce.

Id rather have a hard hitting spell than a low spammable one.

I tell you sp will become an issue for you
