How the heck do you play an Archer in this game?!

Hi all,

I really like playing Archer type classes but I’m having a hard time figuring out how to play one in ToS.

I see everyone with these builds, and talking about stat priority being STR/DEX mostly, however whenever I try and play I’m always starved for SP, I auto attack slow as heck compared to every other class, and my auto attacks don’t AoE.

Are Archers just total crap before a certain level?
Should I be bringing a million SP pots with me when I go out leveling?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Archers use insane amounts of SP for the skills once you learn to manage it you shouldn’t be having many issues.

Take a look at my guide it’s very beginner friendly and may help

Just put some regen sp on hair acessory and be happy. you’re welcome.

I will need to take the time out and really read your guide, it is the build I’m following.

Thanks, wasn’t aware that was a thing.

It’s mostly market dependant, really.
In about a month or a month in a half there’s going to be an Alchemist overpopulation flooding the market with Concentrated SP Pots at lowlow prices, so SP issues stop being a real thing.

Just use camp fire and youre good to go. Full mp in less then a minute.

For starters, always bring firewood with you as making a Bonfire really helps in speedy SP recovery. Just don’t expect this thing can be used while you are fighting as you need to be on a sitting position by the bonfire to get the effect. At the very least, this method is much much cheaper than mass buying SP pots. Also, don’t forget to up your SPR stat a bit because that stat syncs with high growth of archers on DEX. DEX helps you live through physical attacks through evasion while SPR helps you survive unevadable magical attacks later on in the game.

Please man, dont say that any archer class should put points on SPR. its a BIG waste

Actually it is not. At the very beginning increasing Spr up to second bonus stat (up to 12 = 10 base + 2 bonus) helps ALOT. It also will help later with added Block penetration from that Spr.

There is a common mistake: players level Oblique/Heavy/Critical Shot or any other spammable (CD = 0) skill higher than level 1. That leads to way higher SP consumption per point of damage you deal.

Yes, it is.

Regen sp you can get on HAIR ACESSORY. There is 3 slots of it. you can get around 50x3 = 150 sp regen on this. 150 spr = 150 regen sp, rigth? :joy:

Block penetration you will get by items, at least, and some skills (class specific). Trully some mobs got high block and they are annoying, but critical from skills seems to break their block, at least I saw that on lvl 7x ~ 89 mobs.
Anyway, you can get spr from items, Im using a leather shoes that gives me 8 or 12 spr, for ex.

TL/DR spr is a waste. Dex and STR gives you way more damage than spr, magic defence on pve is not important when you can CC ( stun, fear, etc) the mob easy.

I agree with you that Oblique/Heavy/Critical Shot should stay at lvl 1, If you are under 200 sp regen.

good luck getting those on new character.

I got 1 hair acessory with 42 sp regen on lvl 29. Second one ( hair acessory 3) on lvl 52. Now im lvl 8x going to hair acessory 2, I will use enchant scroll until I got other regen sp, or crt rate, or crt attack, any combination of this.

Is not that hard.

Take home message here is Archer is a later game class. Early on you’ll be constantly out of SP and have low damage.
Later you’ll be the best single target damage dealer in the game.

Personally my Archer is Archer C2 & Hunter C1 (Will be grabbing Archer C3 then Fletcher up to C3) currently I’ve gone 1 Dex : 1 Spr and will be going Str & Dex once my SP problems aren’t an issue, I’ll be using max Oblique Shot as my Auto Attack essentially since it has 0 CD it hits 2 enemies AND it is your Phys damage + Damage from the skill level (Currently level 10 is around 330-ish and I’ve got the attribute level about 40 which is a further 40% dps boost and 15 is 400+ which is then applied to 2 enemies), currently she is level 75 I believe and does 5-700 none crit 1-1.2k crit to each enemy without OP gear and no STR investment at all, I also have 1.3k SP and about 130 SP regen (40 is gained from a roll on my hat).

Also a tip I saw when I started my Archer is this, SP regen without sitting takes about 30 seconds each proc however every 15-20 seconds you’re walking around if you quickly use the Rest (Insert) (Changed it to C for myself) You’ll get the full SP regen every 15 seconds every time you instantly sit down this basically regenerates the SP required for me to use Oblique Shot constantly every 15 seconds before and after each time I rest (Insert). (Will give credit to the original user I saw from this if I can find his post)

You should also save money and buy the Head 1, 2, & 3 Like my Hanaming Hat which has 50 HP Regen, 40 SP Regen and a bit of Evasion I think, can also be used at level 1 and I would highly advise buying these for lower levels.

Hope this helped

(Skill damage + character Patk - monster’s def) = damage per skill usage
Lvl 1 Oblique: 102 atk, 8 sp (13 with attribute that you dont really need during grinding)
Lvl 15 Oblique: 446 atk, 29 sp
Default ratios:
Lvl1: 102/8 = 12.75 damage per SP spent
Lvl15: 446/29 = 15.37 damage per SP spent

Lets add a 40 str and a 120 atk(average) bow:
Lvl1: (102+40+120)/8=32.75 damage per sp
Lvl15: (446+40+120)/29=20.9 damage per sp

Character’s natural atk rises with levels, you can have much more powerful bow - all that will skew ratios even more.

Just for fun:
Lets say we are freshly leveled up 75 archer with no gear +str or +atk and no points spent in str = 83 natural atk
+5 Arbalest = 174-189 atk = 182 average
Arde dagger = 153 fire property attack
And we are facing pumpkins in Zachariel’s crossroads (Tontulia, 87 def)

Lvl1: (102+83+182+153-87)/8 = 54.125 damage per sp
Lvl15: (446+83+182+153-87)/29 = 26.79 damage per sp

Note: damage calculation used here is very simplified and doesnt take
into account size modifiers or armor type modifiers or crit modifiers
or element modifiers/resistances.

so… str isnt necessary for archer?

i have 2 chars:

1 archer c2 lvl 3x: 1 dex : 1 str
1 archer c3 lvl 4x: first 60 spr, after that 1 dex : 1 str

i want to be scout c3 to spamm… what do you think? which one i focus? or is better i create another one putting spr : dex : con?

Deplete your SP while grinding, sit down, bonfire, wait 10 seconds, SP is full.
Emergency situations use SP pots.

Thanks everyone for the information.

It is really appreciated.

yes that is how its done or sp recovery head gear

No you attack the same speed assuming no active buffs on either player (and archers have the most attack speed buffs)

No archers are the one best PVE classes from lvl 1
