As a tabletop RPG player let me say that role playing is about getting in character. So it doesnât need to be someone of your own gender. In fact, itâs encouraged for you to act like someone else (like a movie actor).
It is about making other people believe in the character you are conveying and have fund acting like someone else. That can be of someone very rough, kind, tricky or even someone of a opposite sex.
Nothing wrong with acting like yourself, but is that really role playing (because you are just acting like usual)? One can argue that you are not in your usual setting/world, so you can say that, sure, there is some sort of play there.

How is it to feel a different gender?
As far as I know, gender means just a pack of hormones and genitals.
Does your body start producing other types of hormones and grow a different genital?
Being male or female doesnât really affect your personality, you know.

I believe that people will create characters of the opposite gender simply because they can. Others feel that they want to stay true to their real gender but there are no rules that say you shouldnât. Some people feel that itâs abnormal to play as your opposite gender but when youâre anonymous on the internet, nobody even knows if youâre a dog.
Personally, I feel female aesthetics tend to be much nicer in terms of design so Iâd design my character so Iâd constantly be looking at a character that I like to look at. Thatâs pretty much it.

I disagree my friend, you can view as if yourself got inside the game, and your real self is now an warrior or mage, much like âsword art onlineâ, itâs just a reflexion of your ideal self,what you would be if you existed in an fantasy world, its just one of the options, like you said, you can play as different gender, different species (orc, elf)
personally i canât roleplay a woman, so most of the time i play as a female character, its just for the sprite or design, but i know some people like it, and its totally fine

I wish I could play as a neutral gendered character 
Time to make females chars look male and male chars look female. o.o which reminds me, shouldnât the âgenderâ of the character be replaced with the word âsexâ instead since that is more politically correct?

Maybe not personality, just the way I look or feel sometimes I would want to look for female then other days I would want to look male. This is why I donât use gender pronouns. Iâm not growing different genitals. I just donât like when people use he/him pronouns when talking towards me.
