Mainly the people you described as “some people”. I wasn’t sure if you considered yourself under that banner or not.

“Myself i’ll create a male char, since RPG is about role playing, i want my avatar to represent me”
Role playing =/= self-inserting. This is something a lot of people here don’t seem to understand.
I’ll definitely be playing a male character. I switch depending on the game. If it’s something like Vindictus or Blade & Soul, you can bet I’ll be playing female…because reasons…and jiggles. Plus in most games the male characters look kinda fugly. Thankfully in ToS both male and female characters look very good.
The whole point is that some people indeed do pick their opposite gender because they feel it represents them more than their “real life one”
Of course not everyone who picks the opposite gender will be feeling that way. Actually, the ones feeling this way are probably very few.
@indigou indeed the title Brony right now is very shady but to me words means what they were originally supposed to mean not what a group of people changed it to mean unless that group of people were powerful enough to completely change its definition (for example the word Gay which was changed from another way of saying happy to meaning homosexual) and I distant myself from every fandom XD They are all… rather creepy… no offence to anyone in those fandoms
And again A LOT of people base their OCs (AKA Persona/Character/Personality) on what they dream to be in a fantasy world.
And some of them dream to be the opposite gender! And some people here were discriminating against that so yea… I wanted to share that heart as a means to support anyone who feels that way!
Planning to keep my own gender and sexuality for myself for now, sorry about that
Can’t wait to hear people cry about my reasons but I’ll make a female character sometimes for archers, casters or just about anything that doesn’t actually require a lot of physical strength, I make a male pretty much every times heavy armors and big weapons are at play, one exception I made to that rule is my Guardian in Guild Wars 2 that looks like Lagertha in Vikings, she looks very beautiful and is super badass.
No, I meant, if you thought that picking the opposite gender of character on an online game was considered “transsexual”. Wasn’t trying to elicit your A/S/L or anything.
Also is the site super slow for anyone else?
Nope, it’s not considered transsexual unless the person doing it is intending it that way
Yes! EXTREME LAG and everything is just not working and 503 errors all around… people need to leave the F5 button and stop posting threads for a bit
Well I personally enjoy creating a male character best representing me in a fantasy world
I have quite a few friends whom enjoy playing as female characters, ultimately its up to whomever and personal preference.
I’ll create a male character as well… want to try and create a badass battle priest if possible… Also, to balance the gender ratio
I am a male but in Anime/colourful games like these. That do not have mega high textures like an Unreal Engine game i tend to create male & female, but if it’s a game like, Lets say Tera online, I would rather make a Female, because I do not want to look and a buffed up male. Even if it is just an MMO
There isn’t anything wrong with people not choosing to play as the gender they personally identify with or were born with. It’s a game, not a dating site. Very few people are gonna go out of their way to “deceive you” in the first place, that idea itself comes from a place of insecurity and paranoia IMO.
People can have any number of reasons to play as the opposite gender, here are some I use for videogames in general;
-It may offer a different experience in the game
-Aesthetics
-Some are able to roleplay without self inserting, the idea of roleplaying from a 2nd Person Perspective is incredibly common and goes back to old CYOA games.
In my humble opinion the people who are bothered by it may find that the problem isn’t with the other person but with themselves and in this case being a very narrow and arbitrary definition of “roleplaying”.
All these controversial topics like holy butt sacks.
I just don’t care about people gender, when i talk to people ingame they could be men women or anything and i don’t give a damn lol. I think people who get scammed by man playing girl to get items are to blame because they are really stupid and deserves it. for me people ingame are their character nobody else they just play a character the player behind could be a little boy, an old woman or a middle aged man, it wouldn’t change anything about how i treat them.
And like most people said here i play female most of the time just because they have cuter things and are more worked on by the devs, would be because guyz are perv and like beautifull woman or that girls like to dress their char cutely, or the contrary who cares ;).
Female, because consequently, they usually receive better armor designs and skins. If nothing else they usually have more elaborate hair designs than their male counterparts.
Wait, there are men who plays with male characters?
I’ll be female cuz I’m already male irl
oh please … i think choosing your own gender seems like the sensible option … but wander away with your twisted cross-gender fantasies , if u may …
i was merely giving some advice
its not about liking … if classes are NOT sex-exclusive , then play your own gender … whats so hard in doing that ??
ok huehue I laughed, now back to reddit hairy wart.
So harsh. To each their own, but don’t call them ■■■■ for it.
As for me I’ll have characters of both genders.
I would play a girl cause i’m a girl. I also like dressing up my char.
