EXP Rates explained

So i was a bit curious as to why the exp rates here were so ridiculously low compared to the Korean version, nobody complained about the exp rates on the Korean one as far as i know, so it made no sense to me why they would change it here. A number of theories were going around about IMC only wanting us testing the lower level stuff, and i wanted to put it to the test.

I went to as many higher level areas as possible, at first only finding a few npcs with missing dialog. Maybe they didn’t want us visiting these higher level areas yet because some things were not translated?

But then when i got to the very high level areas, some things were completely missing, as if to say “you shouldn’t even be here yet” as the monsters in some of these very high level areas didn’t use any skills at all, some did not even have translated names:

Warps with the wrong floor number, showing that they take you to the floor you are already on:

NPCs with both missing dialog, and missing names:

And then equipment in the next town, all with missing descriptions:

I have much more screenshots but don’t want to flood the topic with too many, hopefully this is enough proof as to why they made the exp rates so much lower here. After visiting almost every map available in the beta, i’m convinced they lowered the exp so much to keep us away from these high level areas for now, as many things are not translated yet. I was thinking of just making this a bug report post, but i’m sure IMC knows about most of these things not being translated yet. So now i’m looking forward to the next CBT, assuming they put the exp rates back to normal like the Korean server has.

Thanks for the information!

Yeah dude thanks a lot, we really appreciate that you spent some of the limited time we have to discover stuff like this. My frustration is all gone now thanks to you.

I actually like the exp how it is, it makes the game way more fun, bad thing is its only for a week. If u had more days probably ppl wouldnt complain. They do that now because they want to try the other ranks.

They would complain anyway. As i say, complainers gonna complain.

Geez no! This game should be called grinding simulator. I waited 2 years but my ‘hype’ now almost doesn’t exist. I’m happy to get a key but i have do give my feedback: It should be hardcore to level up at higher lv, not lv 20~65. (Since it is a closed beta test he should calm the hype of the crowd but with positive impressions, not negative). Yes the game is fun, but the grinding at the beginning is unfortunate. I hope that this will change after this CBT or CBT hope our really is with the rates decreased and I do not think our CBT is the current Korean with English translation. But this problem of grinding be constant it is sad, because they who created the game can abuse it and create exp bonus for cashcoin in return.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I really hope that higher level content not being done is the reason for the low experience. Gm_Shawn’s response was a little confusing in that regard.

I wandered to high level places and saw these “$NoData$” too and this is my thought in another thread:

*(1) is them wanting to keep us on lower level contents ny lowering the EXP rate as OP stated.

I though about (1) but then I feel like it’s stupid if they do that
without clarifying to us. This is a bash directly to the game-play and
we are supposed to report feedback about the game-play too. This messes a
lot with the feedback they will receive. We see that this problem is
the most discussed topic now and all of this will be for nothing except
for giving us a wrong impression / experience on what the game will
actually be, negatively affect our testing. If they want to limit the
contents they should use other methods and / or let us know, after all
everyone understands that this is only the first beta test for our
international server.

I took this screenshot 2 days ago.

So I think the developers did a bad move. We wasted so many time and effort on a problem which is just an illusion being put there to make us not realize the real problem which is the missing contents in English. Now the community has been flooded by useless feedback.

Now this response from the staffs

It sounds really like that this EXP rate was intended to be the official rate.

So far I have ssen in the beta the highest lvl was 96, wonder how he or she did that. I have been playing 7-8 hours to get lvl 40.

They may have played the Korean CBTs so they have more knowledge than you. They may also spend more time to play. They may play a class / a character build which is more effective for leveling. They may be more lucky and get lots of blue monsters (which I doubt is the reason). In short, they are much better than us as ToS players. Sigh.

For the last 2 days, I have spent most of my time on the forum, the grind at 4x is already killing me.

You are right! An example is you complaining about the “complainers”, no matter what the “complainers” have to say nor what reason for them to do that, you will always be complaining.

Yea, its like questing doesn’t even matter. I suggest putting replays on questing

You’re kidding, right? Spend two hours leveling to achieve a unique level of 250 (i’m lv. 35), it is simply sick. No, I do not expect it to be “easy”, but I wish it was fair and that rewards me for the time spent. In addition, at this rate no one would ever be able to play with 80 classes in the game, no one will want or have time to invest in two or more characters. If you want such a hardcore experience to this point, I recommend going to play Tibia because there you will never reach the cap.

Rates are ok, korean version was too easy. Like old days, like old games. Its test, more its closed, so ofc not all translated. Git gud, casuls, and stop complaining.

It’s just sad that current/future players are degenerates and forgot or doesn’t know what’s the essence of Beta Testing.

This is a beta test, we’re supposed to find such things and help out by reporting them. One of the things mentioned for testing was translation errors - untranslated things are translation errors.

If they didn’t want us entering those maps, they would have blocked them off - which is what they have done with lv200 maps. I’ve been up to the market/downtown area (just past the middle of the world map, lv196 areas) - everywhere I go past that, there’s no possible method of entering the lv200 maps beyond, they’re just deadends.

So unless it’s a coincidence that every lv200 map is missing their entry triggers, they don’t want us testing those areas (probably because those areas have been tested more on Korean servers). When you find untranslated things, try translating them yourself on Github but please don’t just copy paste whatever Google translate says… seen enough of that already. If you don’t understand any Korean, at least try to understand what Google translate is getting at and rephrase it in English in a way which makes sense.

I did an in-game report for the portals that are broken, but I think they’ve been intentionally broken because they lead to higher areas.

They want us to extensively test the lower level areas (and generally test exp rate preference), because Korean beta tests have focussed on higher level areas. I see no problem with this at all.

To people who keep saying things like “stop complaining about the experience rates”

Please understand that this is beta test. While no agendas were given to beta testers apart from “report bugs/translations errors” and any indications of further tests, it is very common for players to immediately assume that there will only be 1 beta test and therefore it is impossible to test higher circles /areas/equipments/upgrades/crafting/and so on for bugs as it should have been.

I would’nt be quick to assume that every single tester had accessed Korean ToS news or even their servers; thus are ignorant that there may be additional tests stages for the international server in the near future as well.

For those who keep complaining about the experience rates, staff shawn has already clarified the situation. The quote can be found in another poster’s post above mine.

As clarifications has already been made, stop complaining!

@ topic starter
Thanks for doing this to soothe the community that is so against the exp rates. It is logical and may jolly well be exactly the reason for the exp rates.

I probably wouldn’t mind at the start but after reaching a certain point in the game I would be so annoyed.

I grinded at Tenet Garden until level 40, finished up my quests all the way to a map (forgot name) that recommended level was in the 50s and I only got to 42 through those quests.

I’m not home to login right now, so I’m sorry that I’m not able to provide the exact map names.

I dont personaly like games where you reach lv 250 in a week. I mean they just numbers. And i did played tibia. Have a 195 EK,it took me over a month and when i see other player lv 500+ i can imagine the hard work it took them to get there and in a way that is gratifying. thats the point. I remember MapleStory in the old days, when u saw a lv 71 priest and you were like “WoW” thats rare, and a lv 200 was a god,so it was your motivation to get there. Now they boosted the exp rate to the point you get to 200 in 2 days. The game is dying and is boring AsFK.
