Its the same, you go wherever without knowing the current killcount, so either it could drop on the next kill or on max killcount because someone just recieved your desired item before your eyes. (at least you then know its gonna take a while)
This essentially sums up the issues that people have with DPK. It is the fact that it is a global variable.
Iām not sure why I replied directly to you. I meant for it to go to the thread, but oh well.
And other players will also contribute their kills, be it 10 or 100. The more you kill the higher your chances to land the winning blow.
I typed this message without reply but quoted you. Iām pretty sure it will count as a reply.
EDIT: Oh, it didnāt. Well, replies are glitchy here.
Personally I see DPK as a good thing.
I donāt know how many times Iāve preyed to RNGesus for an item to drop after iāve farmed for ages with no success.
Atleast this system guarantees that the item will drop, even if Iām not the one to get it.
Also without knowing the exact number of kills of a mob you can almost see it the equivalent of it dropping at a certain %. Maybe you got 9,999 kills on the same channel for a Gem and someone walks up and got that last 1, its no different from someone getting a .01% drop on their first kill and you getting it after 20k or even 30k.
I know this is a bit of an extreme but on the last RO server i played it took me 2,100 kills to get a card with a .3% droprate. Thats the equivalent of killing 70k monsters for a gem. If DPK was in place and no1 KSāed me iād have 6-7 drops by that stage.
On the other end of the spectrum all your hard work could go to someone who happened to pass by at the right time. But the same thing could happen to you.
All in all i think its a pretty good system, yes its possible to never get the drop your hunting, but the same goes with RNG. Atleast with DPK some lucky son of a bish is gonna get it.
When youāve been killing the same monster for hours and then you witness an AFK playerās pet killing the same monster that spawned right on top of them and drops what youāve been farming for. You then question what youāve been doing with your life.
Yes, this is true to an extent. If DPK were suddenly removed, my boater wouldnāt have as much worth to me. I put in those 34 hours of work to obtain it. It comes down to people who either want to feel lucky or work unreasonably hard. I personally donāt care what system is in the game, Iāll adapt to it.
From a simplistic perspective you can say āluck is luckā but from a player working their ass off trying to farm their item only to have it jacked by another player (who knows how many times) who may just be strolling through the area or farmed for like 10-15 minutes while youāve been there all day, itās can feel discouraging ā like a lottery system where your efforts may not be rewarded because of the variance of other players being able to take what youāve been working hard to get.
Itās really not as simple as seeing it as āluck is luckā when actually put into practice. Even if the player doesnāt know itās a DPK system, a single person farming for days with NO reward for their time invested is much more likely to ragequit the game and never return. RNG is something that has to be handled carefully and this system is not a careful design.
How many times are you going to get KSd before you uninstall the game and move on? Can you guarantee you will EVER see the drop you are looking for just because a DPK system āguarantees it will dropā? How many times can you watch another player get the item instead of you before serious rage starts to hit you?
Assuming this is implemented, is the most ā ā ā ā ā ā up drop system ever.
This is so true.
/20chars
So true. This also benefits bot armies even more than legit players.
This is definitely true as well.
The game can either feel like a game or a job, and DPK makes it lean towards the latter.
DPK gets reset to 0 whenever the channel crashes or after maintenance so I can get a rough estimate if I know how many players/bots on average are farming there.
So I wonāt even try to farm there until the end of this week for example while the other players farming there didnāt even had a chance on it to begin with.
I didnt say its not without its flaws but Iāve always been an unlucky person in gaming.
Anyways using Gems as my example, unless you know the number of kills its still a 1/10,000 every time you kill a mob.
I think people are being too selfish by assuming itās their drop. Iām looking at it no different then someone āhitting the jackpotā and finding it first kill. With DPK you can atleast swap channel and have a headstart.
Your acting like with RNG that youāll get a gem within 10,000 kills. This system unlike RNG atleast allows that mentality if you have 0 competition. If you have competition then its probably gonna play out much like RNG, some will get lucky, some wont.
Honestly iād like someone to run a simulator on how many kills it would take to get a .01% drop, run it 10,000 times and post the max amount of kills it would take. I bet you those results would be just as disappointing.
Sure, give me 5 minutes.
I donāt agree, actually. When it is random luck, it is fair for everyone grinding for something. I used to farm for whisper cards on RO (.01% drops), and I could get them in six hours as a rogue (however, it wasnāt guaranteed, of course, but it felt rewarding when it happened).
Probabilities donāt work that way. You will never get 100%.
Thats a valid point there.
So people here are saying that they rather have to risk farming endlessly for a drop that may never happen then have someone rock up at the right time and āstealā their drop.
As i said, its a selfish mentality.
Yes, Iād rather have it that way. It is not a selfish mentality when everyone has the same odds of obtaining something. Nobody wants to have to count how many kills theyāve gotten or worry about someone else walking into the map theyāve been grinding on for hours just to see the other person get the item after a few kills. (Edit: I had to fix this terrible sentence).
I decided to get a teleport clip. Needed card and clip, that took me 2 kills (dragon fly and creamy)
Sure its fair as this could happen anytime again, and in this case its very convenient for me. Though my luck was a curse during leveling at stings. I looted almost 600 cards there, and pissed of by there worthlessness i feed them to GTB ā¦
