Hop3 is better than Cata for me. Even with Cata buffs hoplite is more versatile both PVE and PVP. I thought at first, cata with 3 overheat EW will be extremely good but IMC buff pvp cleric and Wiz who are now immune to KD. Shadowmancer and Zealot have that immunity not only that continuous rush stunning is no longer possible. + future KD nerf in PVP. They gave EW 3 OH at the same time making KD in PVP worthless.
Cons of Cata in PVP:

2 handed spear: Shield is indispensable in PVP that Def boost and block are huge + shield 3 gems shenanigans and other stats boost.

Stun locking: Not possible anymore. This one is the bread and butter of Cata PVP.

Short range: Sure we have speed and new skills that can make the gap closers however what you gonna do at short range? Tank shadow torn and Immolation and new deadly skills of archer and Dragoon fall?. Then new weapon means higher damage so you need more def and magic def to offset that damage threat, while we dont have scaling defensive skills who can support our short range meaning youre most likely to die exposing yourself to all the bullsht skills in PVP.

KD nerf: EW, DP, Steed charge all KD reliant skills, however continuous KD will lessen the KD duration every time you use KD skills. EW 3 OH is worthless.

Zero Defensive Mechanism: We are melee and yet we dont have this tool not only that the class is advertised as PVP oriented class and yet we have none. All attack no def is the logic of IMC on pvp focused class.

Speed nerf: This skill is the only thing cata have and yet it suffered major blow. No one in fcking PVP is crying about this skill and it was nerfed randomly.
In other words, Cata went back in world war 1 meta using spear and horse to kill while new classes are using high-tech skills in world war 3 meta(Nuclear, ICBM, Satellites, Drones, Stealth bombers, Lasers and A.I).

Can use Shinobiās cloakings (I value defensive skills like this pretty high because of Damage inflation)

Scaling defensive skills
All of that are valuable to new threats of PVP. You can just stay at long range and wait until the opportunity to kill is present without taking any risks. Cata is required to melee while hoplite dont have to. Anyway this is just my opinion.
