Date and Time :

Game Control Mode (Keyboard/Joypad/Mouse) :
This happens on all controller modes

Using Alt-Tab and then pressing Shift (just shift) will cause the steam overlay to show up.

Steps to reproduce the issue :

  1. Log in
  2. Press Alt-Tab twice
  3. Press Shift
  4. Notice that the steam overlay has popped up

Yeah, it gets annoying specially when you’re trying to write a chat message that involves caps and punctuations. I had to change my Steam overlay shortcut to get around it.

Changing steam’s overlay to Shift+` seemed to fix this for me towards the end of the testing? But I could be wrong. I know it’s the default Steam hotkey and most people won’t do/want to do this, but it’s also not default for them to work along with steam’s hotkeys.

I’m hoping soon they’ll allow hotkey changing/etc.

You are able to change the hotkeys for your steam overlay.

This not only happen on ToS, i had this problem on Killing Floor 2 also, everytime i pressed Shift to sprint that stupid over pop up, ii disabled the overlay for KF2 and was ok.

“Let’s ignore the problem instead of fixing it” seems to be your attitude on quite some bugs in the game. I can only hope IMCGames doesn’t share it.

I think you are misunderstand one thing here, Steam had that a long time ok its fine, but the option to change is there, and what is this attitude you are talking about? I did fix on my own since the game still dont provide keybinding interface, so you have 3 solutions atm:

1- Disable steam overlay for ToS.
2- Change tab keybind in the xml file in ToS game folder.
3- Just leave as it is since you arent obliged to do any of this, its entirely up to you.

Honestly, if you want to bash me in any mean, just keep at it, imho, IMC have bigger concerns about bugs and some other gamebreaking stuff that WE can not change on our own.

And about the bugs i commented or posted on forums, in any moment i said to ignore them, but many stuff ppl complain here only add to stuff that FOR NOW are the smallest of the problems, just like this one.

The workarounds are fine, but you saying “it’s not a bug” in a related thread when it clearly is, is not. Maybe I should have commented on that one instead, to make it more clear.

It doesn’t matter how small the bugs are, what matters is that we report them - the rest is up to IMCGames.

In any case, I shouldn’t have lashed out, sorry.

Its all good, i mean i know what you and the OP mean by that, and yes, reporting them is the thing, i think some of the annoying bugs, like this one, will be fixed with some Game Settings implementation like keybindings, i mean, many ppl complain about the actual key setting and i agree that can be frustrating, an exemple is, i participated on other game CBT and the keys are all messy for me, fortunately they did implemented keybiding and i set up like PoE, wich im used to, and could play efficiently.

And about Steam overlay, im not a fan of it tbh, i do turn off because in many games that i play through steam, the overlay start to consume much memory and sometimes cause FPS drop, so its a terrible tool, i mean, with many games using fullscreen window mode, we can just alt+tab to our prefered browser and do what we need, unless you want to buy DLC or something like that, but that goes for the taste of the customer like they say.

We’re playing beta to find and report bugs so that they may address them, that is the entire point of it all. While I appreciate that there are methods to work around this, the end goal is for the developer to be made aware of the issue.

Sadly, disabling the overlay or changing the binding conflicts with my controller and will likely be an even bigger issue now that I’m using a steam controller.

I don’t see why we should ignore anything. The devs are more than capable of deciding on bug priority themselves

edit

ups, necrobump.

They will adde options for keybind on game, so it will be an issue for a shot while. In the mean time you can go on the game installation folder and modify the hotkey.xml fine, just a tip to, make a backup of that fine before doing anything just in case you mess something and the game start to act up funny.

wouldn’t it cause some issue if directly launching from steam ?

I’m not sure about that but I’m pretty sure that trying to launch the game from the file explorer of windows will still launch steam before launching ToS launcher itself then unto the game. So all in all, you really can’t avoid this unless you disable steam overlay or simply change steam overlay to a key that you rarely use i.e. (`) (~) or (*)

I dont know what you are talking about, just editing an xml file wont cause a thing to steam, the max could cause is making the game not work due to some misconfiguration, thats why i said to make a backup of the file to be edited first just in case.

Any game from steam will be launched through steam, dont matter if you launch the game from the shortkey steam created or directly from the game folder (EXE file) the steam_api.dll will call out for steam client in the end anyway.

Hey chill I was trying to clarify it to him not asking a question :v

Why chill? Im not angry or anything, just explaining how it works, i dont now whats with you people that think im complaining or being mad when im trying to answering serious the question. lol

Let’s just say that the way you speak, your timing of the post, and the approach itself suggests that you are somehow telling us that you are being mad and complaining lel. Well that’s my impression so far after some time of coming across your replies lel.

Teach me how to find out how “letters” can transmit emotions pls master. <— Now that is me being sarcastic.

Seriously, you people read too much betwen the lines instead of focus on the main point, anyway, i answered what i know about the issue, the rest is irrelevant.

Well it can’t be helped, this is the internet afterall
