Bug Description : When alt+tab’ing out of the game and then back into the game, pressing only the shift key will bring up the Steam overlay (hotkey to open the steam overlay is shift+tab). This should not be happening.

Steps to reproduce the issue :

  2. Alt+tab into the game
  3. Press shift key
  4. Steam overlay appears

I am not sure what other details I can provide. My key combination to open the Steam ingame overlay is the default one, left Shift + Tab. When I change from the game’s window to any other window and then return to the game’s window, pressing the left shift will open up the Steam overlay, no matter how long it has been since I returned to the game window. Once I open the Steam overlay, pressing only shift won’t open the overlay again until I change to another window again.

I am playing in full screen mode.

Same problem here. It also happens while I play Trove so I feel it is a problem with Steam itself rather than Tree of Savior. I Googled it a bit before and it seems other people are experiencing this in other games as well.

For the meantime, I just disabled the Steam overlay.

Confirmed for me too. The steam overlay is quite annoying, just disable it.

Instead of disable it, just change the binding (SHIFT+$ for example, just don’t forget the setting), the overlay won’t show up after this.

This actually happens whenever use you use the Right-Shift key. It doesn’t happen when you use the Left-Shift key.

Also, we’re using ASCII (gaming) keyboards.

yeah fix this please its annoying .

Same thing happens to me, specially when using mouse mode where items (upper hotkeys) use shift+number.

This is an issue with the overlay, not with the game. It is reproducible in many games when opened through steam. Petition Valve, not IMC.

I don’t know if this is a bug, but when I alt-tab, it switches what chat channel I’m looking at, and its quite annoying. I know the hotkey for switching between chat tabs is ctrl-tab, but I don’t know why Alt-Tabbing out of the game and back in also switches chat tabs.

Happens to me too. Also changes chat channel for no reason.

Not for me. I only ever use the left shift key when enabling the overlay.

@STAFF_Shawn: Try reproducing it this way:

  • start a few programs
  • start ToS
  • hold alt, tap TAB a few times (also note how the chat channel changes even though ToS shouldn’t be interpreting the keystrokes anymore!)
  • continue tabbing until you are back to the ToS client
  • press shift

Steam overlay should pop up.

THIS.

It’s Steam thing, not ToS thing! Just go to parameters in Steam and uncheck the ‘ingame interface of Steam’

I have played several other games via Steam, and none except ToS has this issue.
It’s not a Steam thing.

I just remove it from many of the free-to-play games i have registered on steam. I see it happening with Trove and its happened on ToS too.

You can remove the overlay for specific games if you still like using it in general.

Right Click game -> Properties -> Uncheck overlay

This happened a lot to me during this CBT. Every time I made a sentence where I typed “?”, I would quickly press enter to send the message. But the steam Shift+Tab would appear and I would sent an “?” to whatever friend I was chatting via steam at the moment. Good to know a solution (change steam keybinds), thanks guys.

Having the same bug, its annoying, every time i want to talk with someone after i click “shift” for the caption i get the steam interface.

This is a steam thing. All the games i play in steam are like this. Except the windowed games like Clicker Heroes or something.

It’s not a ToS bug

it happened to me in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, STLALKER, Metro, City : Skylines… etc
Can’t remember the others

This happens with all steam games. And a lot of non steam stuff, too. alt+tabbing out will recognize you holding the alt key. and when you alt tab back in, it still recognizes it so hitting the shift key without hitting alt again will cause it to think you pressed alt+shift (the hotkey for steam overlay) It’s natural, but there’s no real fix for it.
