so the i5 is about the same as an i7?
i7 is still an upgrade over the i5, youâll notice increased frame rates in the more graphically intense games (assuming you are not getting a consistent 60/120 fps in-game), but its not a big enough upgrade for the price increase imo, so not really worth it if you are on a budget but maybe worth if you have extra money to spend lol.
When I went from my i5 2500k to my i7 4790k, I went from 4.5 ghz to 4.5 ghz. Difference being it was a different architecture and even though it seems like itâs the same end product, haswell architecture is more efficient and that 4.5ghz on the i7 4790k is actually closer to 4.8ghz, which I could never get from a base clock of 3.3 ghz on my i5 2500k. Maybe if the cpu was veeery stable, one of those good batches you know.
Also, I only had to OC it by 0.5 ghz on my i7 4790k in comparison which means less heat, less power consumption.
So I guess to some extent I can agree with you but I still believe the i7 ones are the better choice if youâre going for quality. Then again, itâs broadwells now, right? I honestly donât know anything about that technology. Also werenât skylakeâs meant to be on the market somewhere around q2 2015?
Whatâs your opinion on those?
Edit: nvm I did some research. Seems like there really isnât much of a difference between the haswell I have and the new great cpuâs - skylakes. Main difference being their better memory. Which doesnât exactly make much difference other then on a memory specific tests. Sooo I guess money well spent and will last me for a couple more years.
To be honest, i havenât looked into Skylake much yet since i built my current pc so recently lol, i only know it is suppose to be good for reducing power consumption and heat generation, along with requiring other expensive upgrades like DDR4 ram, so iâll probably wait for some prices to drop before i really look into the details of it.
I also try to avoid overclocking things and prefer to just upgrade them instead, i always worry the heat will fry my parts if i overclock too long, regardless of how much cooling equipment i have :<
I overclocked my PCs since I was 13-14 old. I never had a situation where Iâd have to upgrade before I wanted to upgrade.
Any specific reason youâre avoiding it?edit: nvm, you actually answered that already and I lack reading comprehension xD
Well, if youâd ever want to get more out of your parts, itâs easy, doesnât cost much to invest into a cooler. Thatâs if your processor is actually the unlocked version, otherwise donât bother
Overclocking isnât like the 90âs anymore. Thereâs so many built-in safeguards between the chipset, hardware locks, and software locks that you wonât initially fry something unless you have custom BIOS in your GPU or your motherboard.
Also, with liquid cooling, itâs pretty damn hard to fry something these days - I have 5960X OCâd to 4ghz right now along with 2 Titan Xâs that run stable at +200MHZ core and +500MHZ memory. They donât go past 50 degrees celsius under load.
I think steam machine is good too
Man you are sooooo RICH to have TWO of those TITAN Xs @_________@
Lol, definitely not ârichâ manâŚI just work.
Amen to that. A multi-grand PC isnât that expensive if itâs one of the only luxury items you put money into.
Thatâs not very polite, are you implying he has no other hobbies? :3
holy cow, I just looked those up and the price for one Titan X is 1k
Wasnât it 1k like a year ago too?
The Titan X wasnât out a year ago - It came out the start of April.
As far as that being a luxury item, I have many - I got a nice car, a fair share of electronics, and a bunch of really nice guns. Like I said, I work and I make decent money but Iâm not rich. This computer itself was built over a span of about 3 monthsâŚI didnât just buy the parts outright at the same time.

This is my build, Itâs not just for ToS but Iâm building it around the same time.
Will be nice over the laptop I have now.
Thatâs a pretty solid build that will last you for a while. The 6700K is an outstanding processor and has great overhead for Overclocking assuming you switch to a better air cooler or go liquid. You can easily crank out 5 GHZ on it. The 980 is an outstanding pick. Being the little brother of the Titan X, it offers similar performance at an outstanding costâŚand you can put in an additional one later on for supreme gaming capability at higher resolutionsâŚ(3 of them will blast any game out the water at 4K resolutions).
If I were you, Iâd recommend shelling out an additional amount of money for an SSDâŚlike a 256GB one and then dropping your HDD size down to 1TB. The overall performance gains for everything on an SSD are RIDICULOUS. Thereâs literally no comparisonâŚand since youâre going to have this computer for a while, I HIGHLY recommend one.
Yeah which is why itâs ridiculous .___.
Ruh roh I seem to have erred in my statements and broken the solemn vow of my username
. No, no I only mean to say if a nice PC is one of your hobbies itâs not really all that expensive as long as you donât have too many hobbies to outstrip your income.
No no, it is too late. The witch hunt begins!!! Get Polite! Get 'em!
On a side note I am still waiting on components for my pc now. I upgraded a few more things but am a little worried that the two asus strix gtx 980ti gpus run in sli will get hot as all get out and catch my computer on fire. So contemplating building a water cooled loop before running anything too intensive.
