Any anime-mmorpg similar to ToS, but.. better managed?

I played AK for a while and it has a nice Class-Subclass gimmick with skill builds and whatnot. Other than that it’s basically another point-and-click MMO. It’s kind of similiar to ToS though in the sense that you get to move around while battling (some skills even dedicate itself to making literal circles around monsters) complete with the Forecast danger zone. I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t play with friends though.

So you are saying ToS is fine to play alone while AK isn’t very solo-friendly?

What about other gameplay aspects? Gearing, class balance, PvP, dailies… Better/comparable to ToS?

Oh and is inventory space a premium? I kind of like ToS inventory system. None of that constant tetris management or buy more bag slots with $$$.

More like because ToS still has a random matchmaking mechanic (which I love by the way) to do it’s daily contents. AK straight provided you with solo dungeons or party to bring your friends with, which is why I said you’d need friends. Otherwise, you’ll get real lonely real quick.

I didn’t get too deep into it though, since my friends quit early with me following soon after, sorry. Class balance wise, I’d say it’s really balanced to the point that you can solo the whole game. Literally every class have a support option and at the very least one method of self-healing, so yeah it’s probably really appealing to Kirito’s out there. Inventory space is slot based iirc with free expansions along with the story line.

Has anyone here mentioned Phantasy Star Online 2? I highly doubt a single MMORPG can get more anime than that thing. Don’t play anything other than the JP version though since the other servers are managed badly and are nearly closing. The JP version is playable with almost the entire game patched by English community (not official though, so don’t try to bring it up on tickets. The Japanese also don’t appreciate people shouting in foreign languages, but fear not the patch has a built in global chat).

The management so far is superb in my opinion. Classes are balanced, no bots or macros so far, dependable hotfixes, totally awesome lore and story, actual likable characters (with a selection of waifus), grindy but enjoyable (and totally optional) endgame, cosmetic cash shop (totally worth your pennies though, check them out), amazing character customization, scheduled events with massive multi-party, subclass system, and an upcoming PvP feature. Whew! did I miss anything? I’ll get forum banned for promoting this thing for sure. So long folks!

After hearing from you, I am so gonna download AK tomorrow and give it a go. I don’t mind playing alone solo as long as it’s balanced. Don’t want to pick certain classes or builds just for the most optimal build.

Despite ToS having so many different classes and variety, they are badly balanced and stats is also badly balanced.

Everything about AK sounds really positive so far, might even replace ToS as my main mmorpg.

Knock yourself out I say. One of the selling point of MMORPGs for me is the community (which is why Tree of Forum is so successful huehue). You can try and find your own place there, be it solo or with actual guild. The reason I quit AK was because players have little incentive to interact with one another. The auction house and COD system might be better than ToS market though, do check it out and tell me how it goes.

i dont think theres any good anime mmo atm…but if you want an active pvp enviroment with tons of possible builds that can actually work out because its balanced right, then try dark souls 3

Not an MMo, but I like the rune factory series, you might like the gameplay, skills, crafting system, monsters npc party system. It’s pretty similar to harvest moon but with the combat related and lore continuation?? (Every series gives alight to something connected to other series). Anyways try it, if it suits your tastes.

Since you will start it from 0 and you have played ToS, I’d really like to hear a feedback of AK from you.

Be careful good sir! AK has a certain way of making you feel perpetually inferior unless you spend money. From memory, all the Eidolons can be “earned” in-game, but I will be the first to say that this is not realistic. Some Eidolons appear only very rarely (we’re talking 1 appearance per 200+ hours you are actively looking for them in end-game dungeons or guild halls), and you will have to then get lucky with a drop from that spawn, then you will have to repeat this process upward of 20+ times. Eidolons are, though, central to some builds, as they provide not only stats to your characters but also specific skills and traits. After you finally earn (or buy for potentially hundreds) your top-tier Eidolon, get ready to spend a ton to level them up. Then spend upwards of $500 gearing your character to max because PvP and PvE have horrible balancing issues—PvP requires specific gear combinations to even be remotely relevant (I played a special kind of PvP reflect-based Tank—even in expensive gear I was still 1-shot by more invested DPS characters), and PvE has blatant “gear checks” that will leave you either missing the end-game content entirely or being carried by your team of invested players.

It is fun, for sure, near the start. Maybe for the first 100-500 hours. The combat is responsive and there really is a lot more player skill than one assumes at first. But in the end the game boils down to a money-pit full of fluff-and-frill mini-games. I may not be the best at everything when I play a game, but I am very often one of, if not THE, best at something—an older and established title like AK makes it hard to catch up to the front of the pack without some heavy investment.

The one thing that I applaud AK for above most other MMORPG’s is their handling of World Bosses. The community, in particular, was always very active in updating timers via public spreadsheets—loot distribution is not based on the total % of damage done, but rather evenly distributed to anyone who participated at all. To be counted as participating, all you had to do is land a single hit on the boss. Sometimes even this is a challenge though as the boss is only alive for 10 seconds to 30 seconds at most, but everyone you are with in the battle will be guiding you to the next correct channel so that you can get your swings in. It was a very different experience to ToS where most timers are kept hush-hush due to the loot distribution employed here. In AK, after the WB dies, you are given a cube/chest in your mail that you can then open for a chance at premium currency and more.

AK may be worth a shot, and I had a lot of fun with it years and years ago, but you may want to look for other anime-themed MMORPG’s if you think AK looks good, because this is one older game that may not be great to get into.

I regret the time and money spent on AK. X-Legend cares more for churning out new games than taking the time to make any one game worth playing. Very cash shop oriented as you’ll see with the discrepancy between average players and huge spenders.

I’m surprised IMC dont deleted this post.

SECOND
You can use google and discover fabulous MMORPG that dont made much recognition here on the West, because people dont even had give a try.

just put. “MMORPG Anime” and you will see the hidden pearls that exists in this world.

After see new names, just put on youtube “MMORPG XXX Gameplay” to see how it is on the gameplay.

Just NEVER give atention to Trailer, specialy the cinematic ones. Most of the games that put Cinematic on the trailer instead the game play, are the worst games. They know that, so they put movies on the trailer that have nothing to do with the gameplay, as a matter of marketing. Gameplay is what matters.

Its up to you to see if the imersion is better there than in ToS.

THIRD
Dont worry about a game be Pay2Win or NOT, because basicaly, EVERY MMORPG is P2W. Generaly most part of the end content is acessible for the ones that play as VIP (here on ToS vip are the Token users), so basicaly, EVERY Free MMORPG is just a DEMO of a hidden Pay 2 Play.

You cant think this is unfair, because the companies need the money to work. What you need to think about it, is if this companies make your money worth it, or if they just burn your money for nothing.

For example, I completely love Tree of Savior Style, made part of my life. I am happy to work all they, then at night if not with family/relationships/or a better hobbie, just play.
SO I dont care about give my money to it. I consider as an investiment for my enjoy later. But IMC itself make me sick, then I just think give then my money is worst than suffer without put any money. They decisions make me think that my money worth nothing on their hands.
So every MMORPG have this “Money Catch vs Enjoy maker”.
DONT JUST BELIEVE when other people say: “this game is crap, complete P2W”, when in reality all the free MMORPG are like that.

What about declared Pay 2 Play MMORPG. Generaly the P2W is less, because everybody already paid to play, but this can happen too.

FOURTH

Graphics are different from Gameplay.
If you pay too much atention for the graphics instead enjoy the gameplay, what matter play?
As gameplay, I can put that it include everything, such as story inside the game, classes, moviment options, keyboard control options, quests evolution, market between the community, and more.

Example:
Ragnarok for me was perfect, but the fact that my character had to walk using mouse, completely distroyed my game experience in Ragnarok.
Not to mention when they changed the Armor of Rune Knight, from a Dragon Eskeleton to a Yellow Sonic Armor style, this had shown me that the game was about to end for me forever.

Healm of The Mad God have Paint graphics, but you will feel very immersed with adrenaline when playing against a boss with others players.
Gameplay, Its about immersion, not only about perspective.

The current and best anime-mmorpg available in western are : RO, TOS, DN, Elsword, Maplestory, (generic variations of eden eternal published by aeria), maybe this year soul worker will come to NA. Well just an advice that all those korean mmo’s are trash in the aspect of competitivity, if you want true competitivity in a game you should play moba’s and fps.

I’m basically repeating my post here but I really need to stress this. PSO2 (Phasion Star Online 2) is THE most P2W free MMO I’ve played in years. The cash shop is loaded with items for extra convenience (emphasis on extra because it’s already convenient enough for non-min-maxer) and cute/cool costumes. People can spend hundreds upon hundreds of buck for this game’s costume gacha but at the end of the day, the only thing that differentiates free and paying players are their looks. It’s a bit similar to Dragon Nest in a sense that it’s an instance based action RPG.

I don’t know how this gem goes undiscovered here of all places. Is there really no one here beside me that have played PSO2? Or at least watched the anime? (yes, it has it’s own season of anime. Don’t tell me you missed this as well) I don’t know if I’m whiteknighting this game, but there really is no apparent shortcoming from my perspective. Granted, this is no Korean grinder as they literally throw EXP your way by just logging in daily. But this only serves to deliver those newbies to the current meta instead of making them struggle with early game slow starts.

TL;DR: TRY IT PEOPLE. Or at least watch some gameplay videos of the humongous raid bosses (you can fight Battleship Yamato, this is my personal fav). Please don’t ban me John.

Oh yes pso2 is a fun game, I agree with you, I used to read some discussion while back ages ago when I used to play where the balance was sometimes quite questionable and builds had usually clear paths on what to take depending on your main and sub class and weapon preferences. Each build gave something different and fun tho so it’s all good tbh, also the game has no pvp so balance wasn’t the biggest issue.

My favourite thing about the game was raising in-game currency tho so I could buy nice costumes and different hairstyles and accesories…

The game features lots of amazing game modes as well, however the game becomes quite bland in my opinion if you don’t have friends to play with, mine quit so I quit as well. Most randoms are japanese even in the internationally preferred servers and no communication with rest of the players is no fun.

Really enjoyable and fun game tho, combat is really smooth and nice and works wonders on a controller.

ragnarok
The original one that we all hooked

If they delete this post i’ll just restart it myself, idgaf at this point.

Rather than close, I think they would just move it to offtopic

Tried PSO2 last 2014 IIRC. I enjoyed it even though i was only able to play for a short while. Now i’m not sure why i quit. Maybe because i was too busy at work back then

Another factor would be because the version i was playing is SEA

Take a look on Wakfu. It’s a tatical MMORPG, but if you have never played a turn based MMO you should give it a try. Wakfu has its own “anime” (it’s actually a pretty french animation) avaliable on Netflix. You can play it with Steam or not.
