Regardless how good this hypothetical build is, because i know you will try to argue that:
You are screwed until level 80, doomed to do 1~50 damage to air enemies. 150 with de-protect zone, while everyone else is doing 1000+ damage.
You start doing decently (not even good…) at level 125 with zaibas and finally you have THE GREAT AMOUNT OF TWO SKILLS…at level 200.
I remind you, kirvis doesn’t get multi-enemy zaibas until class 2, and diev class 1 doesn’t have carve owl. Only 3 statues and 1 melee skill at class 1.
Now, please tell me how wizards are suffering so much more than clerics with just 2 attacks that can hit air enemies at lv 200.
Also, if you could answer the other part i said would be ok.
This game does have a lot of customization. You can’t have customization if all classes are the same, each class decision makes you stronger in one area but leaves you weak in others. Leveling a support based class does have issues, but this would be the wrong way of fixing it.
Right now support classes of the cleric tree get the short end of the stick against air enemies if decide to go INT, when there is a INT-based build that would be viable IF heal and cure did damage to air enemies.
It definitely won’t make support clerics broken to have that.
In my previous example, it would mean 4 skills at level 200 that can do damage to airbone enemies instead of just 2.
Clerics do fine against land enemies, not as strong as dps classes, but enough to fight by themselves.
Well… as a cleric/priest building up a full healer/support class… i still don’t have any means of hitting flying enemies and i’m lvl 150 and rank 5 xD
BUT, let me say this… i do fight and win against flying enemies with auto attacks and my AWESOME 10 points in strenght!
So to say this better… i have 10 points in strenght + the weapon attack power so i usually hit enemies around lvl 155 for about 170 hp a hit.
I boost myself up with sacrament and blessing and i go up to about 300 a hit even 400 if the enemies are weak to holy damage.
So yeah… i do fight them in a “pew… pew pew… pew pew pew…” kind of way if you know what i mean… but if i’m fully buffed thy go down fairly easy even with auto attacks AND i didn’t even pick deprotect zone.
This of course is assuming that you fight flying enemies during quests… if you fight flying enemies to grind then you’re a masochist.
It would be a issue of the player being un educated in terms of the game, such as not understanding what enemies to grind vs with certain classes or lack of knowledge of maps that are strictly ground enemies, etc. Is that clearer?
Btw… i want to add something to my previous post… healers can heal (of course) but can also do some very nice damage in some occasions… CURE for example is an AWESOME damage dealing skill against bosses.
Just to give you an example… with my cure i was hitting a boss, weak to holy, for 1200 hp a hit… you can make a count on how many hits a lvl 10 cure skill does.
So we “int based” healers can actually be full healer, full support and occasional damage dealers in some occasions.
So i think that protesting against our REAL onnly weakness would be comparable to a swordsman arguing that it’s unfair for a barbarian not to have a heal spell.
I said full healing, but I did not say full dps. I said you’d like zero restrictions on your current dps model.
It overwrote my original post …
Really, you want full healing and zero dps limitations? I have a friend who is level 100+ full support cleric/priest, WITH ZERO STAT POINTS INVESTED easily killing everything so far, and doing more dmg than a lot of people we come across. As in, auto’s monsters in 3-4 hits in the proper level range (2-3 below or above her level). The best part is, her heal is mob disabled and is only used for healing lol. Upgrade your gear? Put money into attributes?
Thats like saying might as well give alchemist/income based classes dps as well. Might as well round off every support class too lol
Class homoginezation. If clerics had the ability to heal, damage ground enemies, and damage flyers all equally well there would either be no drawback to going that route or they would need to implement an artifical drawback that would end up being unfun to play.
The better way to solve this problem is to incentivize players to grouping with support classes, and in turn reward support classes for assisting other players. Pretty much overhauling how party xp/loot works to make sure that non-dps classes can still be rewarded for contributions.
I’m having a hard time figuring out why you’re arguing a support class should be the 1 who can roll over any mob type in the game on its own while DPS ones with 0 support shouldn’t.
You’ll just have to tough it out until you reach Diev C2 or Krivis C1. It was a PITA until I reached Diev C2. However, once you reach level 50 for the dungeon, leveling gets a lot faster.
As an INT specced support Cleric2->Diev2 (level 100) currently, I don’t concur with OP statement of playing with only ‘Heal’ and ‘Cure’ is hell. Sure levelling is slow compared to others but it is still not that bad.
(Maybe cuz I’ve levelled a 99con 60int Sage in RO before… that one is really hell, depending on only lvl10 firebolt and firewall all the way with just 60int)
I have:
10 points in Heal
1 point in Cure (Have extra 2 points which I don’t know whether to thru them here or not)
These are my only 2 attack skills until I reach diev2 for the owl statue. I still managed to survive soloing thru all the quests only to party for dungeon runs @level50 and level90.
Here is my current stats (strength/dex is kept at base and only added via gear):
Yes our damage is very low compared to the strength specced classes. We can’t hope to match them in damage as we are support healers. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do things to help us in quest to level faster than normal.
Here are some of the things which I do to help me increase my auto-attack damage without investing my precious stat points into strength or dex.
1) Gear
This is extremely important. Support clerics are NOT limited to only INT based cloth gear. We can carry multiple sets of gear, 1 to help us auto attack more and another for heals in party.
Things to note about choosing gear. For gloves we will want to get ones with +accuracy (leather+ ones) so we can hit better. There are also many gear that gives +str. These are extremely good to give us the damage we lack. One really good read up is the stats guide in tosbase: http://wiki.tosbase.com/wiki/Stats
Here are some examples of low level gear we can get to help us, which I still carry even at level 100.
Really good item to get a level 1. +5 physical attack is like +5 strength.
Crystal Mines quest reward. Increase in max attack only but better than nothing. +10 is nothing to scoff at when we are starved for damage.
2) Gems
Attaching a red gem will add some extra damage
3) Weapon and Anvil Enchancements
Here is my current weapon. Adding anvil enchancement will add to the physical damage but not magic damage. Go get the best “white” weapon that you can afford at your level at the market. It really helps a lot.
4) Choosing your fight.
Choose which monster to fight. We are int based and intelligent enough to differentiate which monster we are best suited to fight against. In quests that request us to kill a certain number of mobs, choose those that we deal more damage to (either via holy attack +100%, magic attack +150% or hit damage +50% with a blunt weapon).
For those flying monsters, just grit teeth and fight them only when needed (quest). We have so much better survivability and kill quest bosses much easier than other classes. We also have lesser SP downtime as compared to them.
With proper gearing and choosing monsters wisely, I’m like dealing 70-100 at level 60s to normal mobs and 120s+ to those who are weak against blunt. Well it is not like the 200+damage per hit we see other classes do, but it really helps a lot in levelling.
Not sure how you missed that, But you can Krivis at your first rank up and kill flying things with Zaibas. If you have Krivis as a choice, it’s unnecessary to go Cleric C2 right away as people don’t need it in a party.
