A Note about the so-called RO sequel

woe would be nice… but copieng woe genneraly is a bad idea @_@
it will become shadow of ragnarok: the game =V

i dont want that… thats wrong… its a new game… so ill hate it if it copies other game trademarks…

colosium is good too… might be vary… and i want it to be balanced/fair… like having the same stats… that way we can realy appreciat the class we make/made and be proud!

having a pvp with gear oriented players is stupid and unbalance games… i hate that =V its should be fair! to realy see what a true player vs player compete with each other… but then again…ToS devs will decide =D

they never stated its a spiritual successor, so its not their marketing

edit: played woe once and actually i can understand why group like the pvp thing, but woe seems sometimes more “mass kill mass” than group fighting and didnt really like it, specially it infected the community with such a bad manner that people who were not having 2,3k heal are “noobs” seriously … sorry was bit offtopic

I think you were referring to me? Well, I used the quotes on purpose. What I mean is that I expect devs make ToS that is entirely different from RO (holding to their words) in terms of pvp, class, mechanics, but retains those enjoyable and memorable experience that is, for us, fan-defined ToS as “spiritual successor” (or any term you’d like).

Sorry for the confusion though, I edited my previous post

its really is my oppinion that assuming like a mineral bottle with brand aqua, someone in the store would buy so called aqua while the storeclerk bring another brand mineral bottle and he just took it away…
the simmiliarity we got here between tos and ro a bit too close between each other…
while imc never stated about the spiritual successor bla bla people really did knock their head that it is the one…
so yeah its really my opinion :kissing:

Regardless if the game is a “RO successor” it looks amazing by itself and I think that’s why so many people are excited about it, because they like what they see.

my mistake then, seems I skimmed too fast

I don’t know why people are making such a big deal about whether ToS is or isn’t a successor to RO. If enough people draw that parallel, isn’t that the prerequisite to it being a spiritual successor anyways? I barely played Ragnarok Online and I can see the blatant parallels in art style, gameplay and overall theme.

I can see why someone wouldn’t want their game to be considered a successor to RO though, considering how bad it was in some regards.

well people tend to hang around the good time they passed with their fellow player in RO as a nostalgic momentum if you happen to get one tho heh

@Slitz haha its ok, stating our opinion in the forum tend to get the wrong turn maybe im bad with my statement before… since engrisu not my mama language

The Devs have been doing a wonderful job with TOS, and the best part is they’ve been generous to us with sharing information about its status and what we would see on the game. Other game devs, just keep you in the dark until they actually release it D=

I have editted my original post to correct what about the “Spiritual Predecessor” term, as I may have been wrong.

I am sure everyone here who were old enough had their time playing the original RO. My reason for starting this thread, is to state the obvious opinion that not a lot of people mentioned. I had hoped that the community would settle down and realize the other great potential this game could have rather than be a shadow of RO.

Like for instance, RO was originally designed in a P2P model but as time went by, it went to F2P to compete with the market of competing games. So everything was designed fair and attainable for players on the original RO, but because of the pay2win system was added when it went F2P by greedy publishers, it was ruined.

While TOS was originally designed to be an F2P game, here it would differe greatly. We all have to admit, the devs need to still make profit to keep running the game. I just hope that it wouldn’t be even close to Pay2Win. People are willing to spend in fashion related items rather than buying crazy overpowered potions, etc.

I point the P2P and the F2P aspect because it is here I can be sure that the experience will be different for each mentioned game.

And on another note, I would still have this game in the F2P model, because if it starts out P2P, it can end up just how like ragnarok did.

People, I disagree with this opinion the game shouldn’t have a guild wars just because Ragnarok had one and it needs to diferentiate itself. Remember that a lot of pre-WoW MMO had sieges. Lineaage had it, Dark Eden had it. Then this trend basically stopped because the focus greatly shifted from PvP-driven content to PvE-driven content. ToS having a guild war has nothing to do with being or not a RO clone or spiritual successor. I’m particularily all for it, but only if they can pull it off in a way that allows for strategy and tactics into the mix, and preferably without big reliance on funds and consumables, that made WoE incredibly expensive.

About the whole spiritual successor thing, this can’t be helped, it’s a title the community atributes to the game, not the devs. If the devs had any say on that matter, then RO2 would be the obvious successor to RO. But the truth is, a lot of RO players disagree with that notion.
Not only that, but ToS is the most similar game to RO since Trickster, so it’s completely normal that the RO fanbase, which is basically waiting for a game that is similar to it for almost 10 years, gravitates towards it and then ask for features they think made RO great. It’s aggravated because it has the same creator, and I’m sure this kind of pressure happened during Granado Espada’s development too, despiste it not being a real successor in any means.

This game is as popular as it is -because- it is being seen as a “spiritual-successor” of RO. A lot of older players and current RO players will be making up majority of the game’s community so get use to it. I think everyone understands the game won’t be an exact replica of RO1 but they would love to see some aspects of RO1 implemented because they were good. I mean replicating the same WoW model like every other mmorpg these days will be a huge downfall for this game so I’m hoping they take on a more sandbox game like RO1 was. Holding hands was what make all these new mmorpgs die so quickly and end up with a ton of ghost areas and towns.

There is no issue with calling ToS a spiritual successor. The major error here was everyone assuming Spiritual meant gameplay and mechanics, when in reality it’s the vibe of the game that’s going to be similar. The graphics are beautiful and unique (much like RO) and the music gives a sense of nostalgia that is both reminiscent of RO’s past memories, but obviously new and meant to describe the scenarios going on within ToS.

Take a look at some of the examples listed here:

Some Examples:
Ico -> Shadow of the Colossus
Super Mario RPG -> Paper Mario
Baldur’s Gate -> Dragon Age

It goes on, but the point is that these games are completely different, yet have little flecks of each other within. The mechanics between them all have drastically changed for the most part, yet they remind one of the other. That’s what it means to be a spiritual successor, not a sequel.

[Edit: Wow this thread is older than I though. I’m blaming you @coolflare. But my point still stands - the beef with calling ToS a spiritual successor is an opinion based on ignorance of both the accuser and the accused, thinking that it means something closer to sequel.]

oh look necro bump!

well the forum is kinda idle nowadays without any recent new from IMC aside from Indonesia’s FGT so i guess bringing out old topics will have to do.

also for me, I have to say most of the threads that pops up can be responded with “the game is not out yet, dont crush your brain now”. So its also lesser to write about, which end to you just mentioned.

It’s only around 1 week, so a new post is still acceptable I think.
This is better than posting another similar thread.

mods arent even interacting with the community

Yes they are, but they’re focusing on immediate issues / translations / things that directly influence the speed in which ICBT will get up and running.

arent one of the CMs responsibility there to mingle with the community?

I’m not sure IMCGames have some women in their staffs. That’s why I won’t force them to send their CM now because they have other important matters to deal with. Just calm down. As long as they heard our opinions and suggestions, I’m fine with that.

it doesnt have to be a snowman, it can just be a made up facade where users will have their up most immagination to the account of the CM.
