Would this be a good way to block future bots?

require credit card info to register - one per account(if you’ve already registered an account with a credit card, you can’t use it again for another account).

Most bots come from China anyway and they don’t have credit cards, and even if they do somehow, once they get banned they can’t register again.

Everyone over 18 in North America has a credit card. Those under can ask for parents’ cards.

Would this work? just a thought…

And what stops a paying player to use a bot?

i believe he meant the chinese gold bots

I’ve seen RMT bot buy level 60 scroll (to get access to global chat, scroll cost more than 50 USD) in TERA for several times. Make them pay stuff does not work well to block bots and such.
Also if you haven’t forgot… pre-pay card is available in most country so requirement to register card won’t work well imo.

nothing, but once they are banned they are screwed. they can’t make another f2p account and play again.

also are you Nakano15 from terraria forum? lol

It sure as hell is a great way of stopping future players :unamused:

Bots will always be there cause most of them will have the money to buy the “up your ass” access and troll all they want

they can have money, but once they get banned, where do they get another “key” to create another account?

I believe all accounts will be automatically assigned to Steam account.

There are plenty of way to make free mail which used to create new account.
Even blocking IP does not work because there is VPN.
Without drastic way to prevent in-game currency trading, there is no way to stop bots.

You can have more then 1 active credit card without actually using them. You can active one and then cancel it with no fees most of the time, so that doesn’t really solve the problem.

but as soon as you enter the card info, the system remembers it. even after if you don’t buy anything or unregister the card, it’s still voided from future registration.

its so easy to get credit cards, hell they even give free stuff for you to get one.
and if ever they get ban, they would just get more or make people get it for them

I badly can enter a store without being swarmed by peoples wanting me to make for free a credit card.

No, it would ward off a lot of legitimate players, Chinese sellers are often involved in the credit card fraud business and trade stolen numbers which they could use for registering accounts, lots of people don’t have cards, lots of parents will refuse, it creates a risk of hackers stealing your number (IMC is known for bugs), and best of all, my card lets me generate throwaway numbers for temporary use so I could make a bunch of extra accounts if I wanted. Even if IMC posted a test transaction to verify that the card is real, I could mass produce and sell accounts.

On the contrary, making them pay for stuff and then banning them so they have to pay again is a good way to deal with them. The developers will make a profit off the bots, they’ll have a financial incentive to ban them frequently so they’ll have to pay again, and botting activity will be limited to the relentless ones who are hard to get rid of anyway.

Do the math dude:
Number of Players who have bought bot stuff - Money spent to be able to do comerce with the player.

The botter will win.
Even more due to the multi clients.

have you ever heard about credit-cards in online pay-systems that you can create as much as you want? in some of them you don’t even need a verification.

In-game captions, problem solved. Kick everyone who fails to enter it.

A bit of inconvenience is a small price to pay for a clean game.

Credit cards wouldn’t work because not everyone has them. In America maybe, not Europe and other parts of the world.

What do you mean, win? Reducing the amount of money spent to be able to do commerce would only benefit the bots. What benefit are the botters getting from being herded into paying the devs money?

are you for real?
