Would it be possible to keep/reserve our usernames?

Hello.

Whenever a new game is out, I usually have to struggle to log in quickly to get a cool username. Since this time I could actually try the game on the first day, I actually got the family name that I wanted. However, this may not be the case when it is released.

Since technically this closed beta was open for everyone who got here quick, which is exactly what is needed to get a short, cool name in any game, would it be possible to keep our family names reserved for us when the game is actually released sometime soon? Bind it to the SteamID of each account, and if it’s not used within a couple of weeks, then make that name available for everyone if that person doesn’t claim it within the time limit.

Thanks for listening, and you are all invited to discuss.

Have a unique username as well as a back up one…

Every game I play I am usually known as LoliLicker or LickTheLoli. Never has both of them been taken already.

That doesn’t really answer my question, though.
Yeah, I have backup names, but they all kinda suck compared to my usual nickname of choice. I’d like to keep the one that I got here in this beta, since I’m already making friends and becoming known among a few new-made friends by it.

If you didn’t want to lose names, why bother with closed beta testing when you know everything gets wiped? Should just wait until open beta or launch if you want to keep names.

You’re missing the point here by being a narrow minded jerk.

narrow minded jerk…?!
wow… :no_mouth:

The only point I’m seeing is players want the developers to treat their beta tests as early access periods instead of actual beta tests. Just because other MMORPGs call their early access periods “beta tests”, that doesn’t change what a beta test is meant for.

Guys, I don’t want to keep my characters, items or anything an early access would allow me to.
Just the name, which I got across all 3 servers.

I don’t get how that qualifies as “keeping” a name.

Because they want to make things fair for people who didn’t get into any of the beta tests. Beta testers are just supposed to test the game, why should they receive any other perks just because they were lucky to get into the CBTs?

We weren’t lucky. This wasn’t randomized. We got here because we were fast.

Practically speaking I think this would only burden IMC, since they would have to now keep track of usernames and stuff on a server they’re not even guaranteed to use again for the official International release, which I expect won’t happen until at least mid-2016. That’s basically telling them to hold your name for free for 6+ months.

Just trust your name won’t get taken quickly. After all, you already said, you got in the game b/c you are fast, make sure you’re fast in taking your name for real then.

I may not be so lucky if the game comes out during my vacations, when I usually just bring my Macbook with me (and it can’t run ToS).

It’d suck to participate in a beta test for 1 whole month, possibly even a third one, then lose my name because I can’t connect when it finally launches :S

Well that’s not IMC 's responsibility then~ ¯ _(ツ)_/¯

Maybe that’s why I’m asking instead of mandating?
