Why not ban the words MMOTANK and other Goldseller spammers

I think what you really need to start with is adding a delay or cooldown to the Microphones. Perhaps, 5-10min per microphone? It won’t 100% solve the problem but it will atleast mitigate it. I don’t think players need to be using the microphone function to chat with others anyway, rather than using them for actual announcements.

This won’t fix the issue though. Gold spam will still happen. At a slower pace, but it will still happen. There needs to be a proactive way to manage this that doesn’t penalize the players too much. The majority should not have to pay for the RMT minority when there are perfectly valid alternatives to resolving this issue.

This won’t work for reasons stated above. There’s no filter you can make that will pick up all the variations of an RMT post, they’ll just make alternatives to bypass the filters. The best method would be to create a “report spam” feature that mutes players that are reported by a great number of players. It’s effective, it’s community-powered, it takes a minimal amount of time with no set up required, and it gets rid of the annoying posts permanently.

Your solution allows the same RMT accounts to simply change their messages to circumvent your filters. WoW’s “report spam” solution effectively forces the RMT companies to buy/create more accounts and microphones if they want to keep spamming advertisement, which eventually will not be cost-effective, especially considering that you can’t actually trade silver from my understanding currently.

Like I stated, this issue wont solve the issue 100% but it will mitigate the issue and even decrease the server lag slightly. Putting a cooldown on the microphone doesn’t “penalize” users. The global chat features aren’t usually mean’t to be giant global chatrooms but rather solely used for announcements. So it will only be forcing players to use them for their intended purpose. Besides, as it is now, players can’t even use the feature for a global chatroom, nonetheless even for announcements because the bots are flooding the chats.

Additionally, they could increase the price of global microphones and have gameplay notices frequently appear stating that trading silver is not possible to inform players. It will take awhile but this will discourage the bots in the long run when their wasted money on microphones aren’t getting the scams they were looking to profit on. A level requirement for using the microphone feature can also be used so the bots can’t quickly make new accounts on a whim. Again, these solutions will only mitigate the problem as there is always a work-around; like the bots spamming in populated areas in local chat.

We could also introduce channel only microphones at a lower cost to benefit the players, however this may make it more difficult to identify the bots so I’m unsure of this approach.

let me tell you the darkest truth. they don’t even care. why? they’re gaining a lot of money from them. until they have enough, ALL our suggestion is just some kind of ancient language which they’ll never read.

Well they can make’em we can ban’em. Eventually they’re going to have a hard time making a link that makes sense.

Although they can just switch domain at that point.

Just put a level limit like 50 or 100, to use “Shout”.

ironically, as you posted that, there WAS a gm ingame, dealing with the spam… lol.

you would give gamer the ban hammer? that’s disaster in the making.

What needs to happen is that IMC need to add client side filtering that we users can add/remove words simply by adding it to a specific text file. If the filter is client side the gold spammers will think they are spamming normally without issues but if the filter is client side then I can simply add the word mmotank into the filter and it won’t show up in my chat window. If the gold spammers change the word even slightly, I can just go into the text file and add the revised word into it and continue on my day. It would probably take 5-10 seconds to add a word into the text file. Even if I had to add the new word the gold sellers put in every day, 5-10 seconds isn’t a very big deal. Gold spammer will think they are sending the message to people but if individuals actually maintain the text file by taking 5-10 seconds out of their day this can be avoided/ignored.

All of this is pointless anyways. They can still make new accounts and get off a few spam messages. As a stop-gap, the spam report thing is probably the only thing worthwhile. Make sure it’s account wide, too. Maybe put weights on it based on level, so that angry sellers/children can’t use a load of bots to shut people down.

More importantly though, they’ll still exist. As long as its economical for them, they’ll exist. I cannot fathom why the price limit was placed on token sales, for example, even though I could see the value exceeding that quickly. Why? The more people that can buy tokens with silver, the more you’ll have people buying them from the company and supplying them!

Hell, the cash shop items in general should be tradeable. Who would go buy silver from a third party untrustworthy site when they can just buy prem stuff straight from IMC and turn it into profit? Not to forget, if the profit is good enough, eventually it simply becomes too expensive to sell silver like that - prices in the spam have plummeted to 1/10th their original price, but are still significantly more expensive than a player could make selling prem.

On top of that, when the game goes free to play, there’s going to be a massive influx of people with no intent and/or no ability to pay for premium stuff. If everything was tradeable, then those people would still be contributing to RM sales, since they’d create a demand for it.

Throw the sellers under the bus by creating your own economy, while improving the game for everyone else also.

The only solution is to have a online GM working daily just to ban people every time they put a linke for a gold seller website in the shout.

Every other method is easy to get around.

I see what I said went over everyone head as they have no clue what I’m talking about. Oh well I suppose, a user filter will be manually added soon anyway.

Or limit using megaphones till level 30 which is an hour or 2 of playing the game.

A semi-viable method I’ve seen used in other MMOs involves a timer on shouts, i.e. shouts per character can only be done 10 - 20mins apart. Also introduce a cap on how many times one character can use their megaphones within a 24hr period.
