Why dont games live up to their hype?

Yeah, they really need to make money.

After all, SA server went down again (they said that yesterday was DDOS) and we have 0 GM’s in the forum. The problem started 3 hours ago and the last GM post was 5 hours ago. They probably don’t even know that it’s like this.

Games dont live up to their hype because peopñe start having delusions and start inventing and speculating stuff that a game should have. Imo people are too greedy and have no idea how expensive it is to male a game with nowdays graphics etc. They want all games to be perfect but heres the thing, if they make a perfect game, why buy more games? You already have a perfect game that will make you play 1000 hours, why get another one? Thats why. They keep you buyig more. Capitalism and peoples stupid delusions.

using a controller and being an archer i could close my eyes and clear every map no problem. provided i dont continuously run into a wall :frowning:

This is how I see it:

IMC is a relatively small company. It really is functioning like an indie company at the moment. Tree of Savior is only their 2nd game released. It’s pretty clear this game is reaching for big goals, but with limited workers and deadlines, this game is terribly optimized and the state of the game feels unpolished and finished. A lot of features in this game would be great, if they were more polished and advanced.

Here’s the reason tho, IMC are the developers AND publisher of Tree of Savior in North America or internationally. They have no financial backing by:

https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/1496971458/nexon_signiture_vp.jpg

They aren’t under any contracts to say what will be put in the game or what they can do with the game in NA. This is probably the reason why there is a KR/NA difference and why IMC has yet to implement certain class or balance changes in NA. This is likely due to a contractual agreement with Nexon in KR. I could be completely wrong but this seems like the most logical reasoning behind it. Companies (like Nexon) will keep certain classes or characters OP or broken so they can cash in on what class is trending at the moment. I’ve seen this happen in too many KRMMO’s.

Most game companies are even smaller than IMC and have no choice but to be funded and published by big companies such as Nexon. There are only a few companies that are able to develop and publish games themselves but usually take time to build up on success. Once developers are backed and funded by a big company, they are literally at their mercy in terms of what is done with their game.

Business choice, I definitely like what they’re doing. They are trying to make this game as less of a P2W game as they can and they’re listening to the community. Game choice… yeah… I don’t agree with the majority of it but I’m hoping that will improve in the next year or so as more content and patch fixes comes.

They have the foundation laid down, they just need to get building.

I forgot to mention… here’s another issue. IMC is focusing too much of their resources on their next project Wolf Knights Online.

Which is basically a realistic 3D MMO trying to compete with Blade and Soul / Black Desert Online. We all know how that’s going to turn out.

Seriously, they should just QUIT WORKING on that game because nobody cares about it. IMC should be dedicating their time on fixing Tree of Savior and making this game truly shine. They CAN do it. I just don’t understand why or where they’re throwing their funds around.

Many make the mistake of placing their expectations/feelings from other games into this one, and you can’t really blame anyone or anything else for that. Just saying.

Also, pre-release is always the best part in a game cycle because you get trailers and images so you know what it looks like, but your imagination handles the rest and you love what it does for you.

Sorry… that honestly wasn’t meant to be passive aggressive or anything.

I really love them, and I accept that you don’t. Imo that doesnt’t mean they’re badly designed, nor are they so perfectly amazing that taste is irrelevant and everyone should love them.

It was a honest suggestion that if the monster designs bother you, you may feel more at home in a different game. (I also don’t know what exactly bothers you about the design. Too cute? Too much plant? Something else?)
If you like the rest of the game too much to leave, well, I don’t think the monster designs will change, nor do they have to.

How does one come up with the name, wolf Knights.:smile_cat:

Because video games industry is rotten, save for a few exceptions, and players are fool who buy in every product/scam/sh*t that is presented to them, which doesn’t contribute to improving the situation, at all.
No, I will not talk about the EA.

never believe the hype. always lower your expectations and see for yourself first, and you’ll never be disappointed
unless of course the game is undeniably bad…:stuck_out_tongue:

my two cents TS, since this is an MMO, why not find your niche in the community itself? it works for many people. I mean, RO was never the best-rated MMO even during its peak (rebirth era IMO so around 2005~07-ish when WoW was new and hot) but it was the best time for people who regularly played with friends or against the same opponents. I don’t know with any of you, but when choosing which MMO to regularly play, I think it helps to be in the company of peers who share the same goal, even if it’s just farming for crafting ingredients for hours to end. graphics or game mechanics sometimes don’t matter at all, but don’t take my word for it of course, enjoyment of any game still depends on who plays it.

Listen to this man talk about hype.

I’m a bit confused as to why this game is so disappointing for you. I’ve been following this game religiously since it first entered my radar back in 2013, and I am loving it. The only letdown I’ve felt so far has been technical.

The gameplay, character building, item hunting all live up to my expectations.

Once they resolve the server issues and can start focusing on ranks 8, 9 and 10 and possibly some IToS events, i see no reason for this game not to be everything I was hoping for.

Sorry that you are so disappointed but I honestly have no idea what you were expecting if this game let you down so badly. To me IMC delivered on everything they promised, quirky 2d sprites in a gorgeous 3d world with a fun class building system.

I’m curious. you say these things, but have you actually experienced them?

Show me your dps character taking down an 80k hp mob in 2-4 hits. Video recording is built into the game. Toss it on youtube and let us see it.

Show me the vid of you taking down ET 20. It is the most challenging content in game. You HAVE beaten it right? Otherwise I don’t see how you could say that the game isn’t challenging.

Well if you play Ragnarok from the very beginning you will know every bug the game has… You would know that most of the headgear sprites are unstable… Many NPC are not functioning… Item duplication is possible zeny hack as well… cards are present but with unknown usage… status ailments not implemented… warp portal is unusable until lvl 8… bots are starting to invade causing many people to loose their accounts due to wrong miss judge… roll back upon logging off… and so on and on and on…

Ragnarok started December 2001 and actual release is on August of 2002 when the game is already almost stable…

ooo but you’re so wrong my friend, hype is actually created by players expectations, BUT that expectations is only created by marketing and publicity wich is (not directly) created by developers who wants money on their work (nothing wrong with that), the wrong part is selling something that is not enterly “true”

well i played on BRO, so the bugs and etc were patched before they send the things to us (the way IMC should have done with the KTOS istead of treating them as 2 different games and ignoring all their beta tests lol), and even it being a BR server(known for abusing this type of thing everywhere), playing for 5 years i have seen less than 200 bots back in that age, so not really important, and on RO because of the game design the bots actually had a role, they mostly farmed usefull cards that legit players didn’t bothered to farm( they were like symbiotics bacterias), basically they helped the economy istead of destroying it xD(not possible in TOS because it has a completely different system, i know). Anyway i am not complaining about release bugs and unbalance, this are things that time can fix, my problem is that TOS is another MMO that tries to cater all type of players, RO was heavy balanced around WoE and most of the players played the game for the WoE (game that focused on GvG). While TOS has not a good pve nor pvp nor gvg nor market nor social aspects, it tries to be everything and end up being nothing( actually they are everything a Money grab MMO is, but not going to discuss this here). I just wanted them to focus the direction of this game, if they want a pve game, make more entertaining boss and dungeons, if they want to make a pvp game, fix the unbalances and fix everything around pvp, if they want a gvg balance everything around it. If they want to make this game casual, make it casual, if they want hardcore make it harcore. I want them to stop blending everything and appealing to no one.
Just my view, maybe i am wrong or maybe not ^^

They are playing their cards early and taking it all in… Gambling the little possibility… They should have just waited for a stable version before releasing it… But the community it self ask for an earlier release…

I’d like to see what will this game has to offer. It’s still in development though… But so far i’m not disappointed on the game… Art style is great… Servers are a different issue, the hosting is bad… But for the game i have no complains in it…

Yeah just divergent opinions ^^,

just this is wrong, nobody was demanding they to release, we had waited 4 years, we were fine, but they said the Open Beta coming soon
that destroyed the community and maybe the game lol

Uh… go back alittl farther and read all the “RELEASE THE GAME NOW IMC!!!” Threads…
You can even do this on he KR forums really, as IMC previously stated WAY WAY back, that they were looking at a early 2017 or late 2016 release NOT early 2016, and late 2015 for KR…

I’m sorry but you’re wrong. This game has a lot of deep rooted issues, I don’t understand how you’re unable to see this. Sure, you may be enjoying the game, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK for you to say “there is nothing wrong with this game besides a few minor mechanic changes and some bugs”. This might be subjective, but when players stop playing because of these minor problems, the loss of revenue and support for the game declines and everything will go down with it.

There are probably still mmo’s out there with <200 ppl playing, those people think it’s an amazing game, but the 20k people that have left think otherwise, you are one of those 200.
