Why do people rush to get max level in MMOs?

Always kind of wondered this.

Theres has been a trend that people will get into a new MMO, literally play 24/7 untill they get to the max level as fast as possible by Skipping ALOT of content in game. then complain that there is no more end game content. when a new max level release comes, they just do the same thing over again.

I don’t play that often, but i do enjoy it when i’m playing. I try to Complete collections, get all the quests, upgrade equipment relative to my level, hell just sit and chat with people. but some people just skip all that, get to max level then get bored?

is it because they want to PVP only? there isnt a rank system right now. i just dont see the point of doing that.

MMO’s are supposed to be long term no? there will always be a max rank. i think these people just go game after game getting max level

====EDIT=======
just hit an epiphany so i figured id qoute myself:

Normally all the good content is at max lvl. This game however is a exception as this isn’t really the max lvl and it has ■■■■ all for content.

So in most games - they do it to do the real content

In this game - no clue

So they can rush to general discussion and cry loudly about the lack of content and how the game will die soon since it’s sh*t.

I often wonder this myself. I know in some games like WoW, they do it because they want to get into raiding/end-game pvp. As for ToS, not entirely sure why.

I’m typically slow as hell when it comes to levelling in MMOs, mostly because I prefer to laze around towns talking to people, or I’m making a bunch of alts. Even now with over 400 hours logged, my highest character is only 142 due to said reasons. I’m in no rush at all to get to 280.

No, players rush to end game purely for epeen reasons. What is real content anyway? All content along the leveling phase are real content.

Yes, arguments can be made that content towards the end levels provide more
challenge and complexity, but at the end of the day, players rush there so others can bask in their glory.

Edit: talking about TOS specifically

Seems to be the case in a lot of MMOs. Rush to end game, realize they didn’t care about 99% of the content and instead of, “Well MMOs aren’t for me, I should play a MOBA or FPS instead”, it’s, “REDESIGN THIS GAME FOR ME!”

MMOs haven’t changed a whole lot since WoW and EQ. I mean it’s still about the “journey”. Ya know you are supposed to socialize, level up, enjoy the aesthetics, immerse yourself in the world, dress your characters up like a doll :stuck_out_tongue:

Once competitiveness took over the genre all of that became moot. Instead, it was about rushing to end game to challenge the content at the end, beating it, stroking epeens then complaining about there being nothing to do.

Even if an MMO put more effort into encouraged socializing and encouraged world interaction, it wouldn’t change this player mentality.

Personally, I like to level… Hope to get done with it (following the cap) and then laze around… I can do everything else after maxing out my lvl since i’ll be free… It’ll be easier, there’ll be more choices and there’s no “leveling progress” cloud looming over me… =P Not into PVP…

But that’s just me… =) And ofc, I don’t cry about no endgame content seeing this is still a game at infant stage… I don’t mind lazing around and chatting with people… And also, I like to play many chars… =P

You say no.

Then immediately prove me right. Thanks.

Im exactly the same way, I’ m like pretty low level, but i like talking to people, doing dungeions together or trying to enchange and collect gems. i can see myself playing for years if i keep doing this with every char.

I dont think ive ever heard it put better than this.^^^

MMOs are fun because of the journey and the process. The competitiveness was EXCELLENT when all that hard work got bested against others. i guess people want to rush to that point.

For me, TOS will be my last mmo. the only way im leaving is if it goes down. I think this can be a good lifestyle MMO if they continue to fix these issues.

I don’t get it myself.I’m at a bit over 850 hours since iCBT1,and some people have surpassed that just playing since Founder’s.

Relax…the game isn’t going anywhere and at this rate we aren’t getting new content ASAP.So really no need to rush it.This isn’t a game that markets its self on a killer time at current end-game.

Older MMOs were centered about the community; the motivation to log in was to meet your friends and play together.

The average gaming population changed towards a more competitive, less social kind of player, and so did the MMOs to cater to it.

You can see a lot of MMOs these days that are just barely more than a storyline + grinding experience; some don’t even support functional group play between characters with widely different levels. Once level cap is hit, people stop playing until new content arrives, or enter drone grinding mode.

Only reason i ever rush max lvl in an mmorpg is to test builds on pvp…
A little bit of blood shed never hurts…

Sadly ToS has yet to introduce any pvp content cept guild wars and releasing the leagues will worsen with the current bugs / skill balancing.

Aw i miss the social aspect of the older games… especially when u have a great community…nowadays is alot more of competition…

Now that e-sports has gain renown across the globe… almost everyone has a "i wanna be the very best*(insert pokemon theme song) mindset…welll that what i can assume…correct me if im wrong though

Isnt this hard with ToS though?

Since each tree has so many capabilities and stat builds make them even more diverse.

Despite the sad truth that more MMO players are competitive rather than social these days, there’s still a few of us out there who’ll happily sit around and socialise, rather than rush to max level 'cause omgmustbetheverybestlikenooneeverwas. I admit it’s harder to find said people these days, but we do exist!

I imagine it’ll take me several more months yet before I end up with a 280, and honestly I couldn’t care less. It’s not like there’s a huge amount of end-game content anyway. I’d rather sit back, enjoy the journey and meet some fun people along the way.

simply because leveling is the general idea for spending time playing this kind of mmo.

but if you ask me, they just wanna level up so they could brag about it. or start farming for the current end game stuffs. get bored. Q_Qs at forums. then quit.well, here i am stince icbt. still level 220

well just depends on the community i guess…from what i know i have yet to find a guild that and is hard to talk to some people especially if there is a language barrier…

i dont think thats the only real issue why most of us left lol XD

I would invite you to my guild, we were a bunch of old social RO players excited to play TOS. However since the announcment of the closing to new players ( and the release of Overwatch lol ) the guild chat has been pretty much dead. PM if you still want an invite to the discord
