What the hell happen with the forum!?

IF only people will accept those lag without worries XDDD then i may agree. But i can bet with certainty that majority of people want at least a desirable amount of lag instead of crashing here and there. You dont want your sheeps to be feeling uncomfortable because they may go away or may be turned off in the game. IMC is trying to avoid that. It’s not fair thats for sure to those free players who wants to try this game out. I have 2 friends who dont have work, so ill be paying on them instead.

“BUT that doesn’t mean that I think that this is the BEST deal FOR THE GAME. I think it’s just avoiding the things that will happen anyway. (lag, crashes, bots, queues)”[/quote]

True but what else we can do? XDDD IMC already laid out the traps. No use demanding to them anymore to release this into free access instead. See the poll they will use it as an excuse.

I agree. This won’t properly stress test anything and won’t be a very accurate attempt at stabilization. It’s a start, but it won’t be good enough. When the game goes F2P, there will be crashes, lags, bots, all of that. It’s Open Beta, so that’s too be expected. However I think they could have worked more efficiently if they just had a proper Open Beta from the beginning.

Let’s look at FFXIV. When they relaunched ARR (A Realm Reborn, which was FFXIV’s second expansion which drastically changed the game). They had an Open Beta which lasted for two weeks which was free (though they have a different payment model so maybe this comparison means jack). It was very populated and tons of useful data, more representative of the community’s size on release was gathered.

I think the EA is a mistake overall. I don’t think they will obtain good enough data to properly prepare for the OBT, but since it’s so close to the OBT, I think the data will be more useful than what we got during closed betas. Overall, I think this will help them make the OBT better, but the time they are spending to prepare for the OBT could be better used just launching the OBT and working with that.

It’s clear that they need funds and this was one way to get it without flat out asking people. I don’t fully agree but I’ll take it.

People that won’t accept it are the minority that doesn’t care about the state of the game, they are just people that want to get in and play. It’s the people that will play for a month or so and quit the game.

All those things will happen anyway, because if iCBT2 didn’t prepare them for it, this early access won’t either.

UNLESS they bought a godlike server since iCBT2 and want to test that out separately, which I doubt is the case.

As I said earlier though, I’m not demanding, I’m not complaining. My post was about what I think they SHOULD HAVE done, not what I think they should do now, nothing can be changed at this point.

Yeah, pretty much that. At least some people understand <3

I’m just, well…I don’t like that beating around the bush. Community was great to them in the past, in terms of what we were doing to get in more players and stuff. They should’ve trusted us, started the OBT for everyone and gave us an alternative way to pay for whatever they need. (Kickstarter always coming to mind first, because it’s kinda based on trust)

We would get better information about the server and everything. They would see what situation the bots would cause and deal with that right away, as well.

Yeah there were other ways they could have done it, more transparent ways, for sure. Kickstarter… I don’t know how big that is in Korea. It may not have the same level of respect and maybe even understanding as it does in the West. I can’t really say.

My only explanation is that they are trying to reward people who give them money (which again, Kickstarter could have done). EA is a very big incentive.

I agree though. This wasn’t a very clear way to raise funds and I don’t think it’s for the best, but it’s certainly better than before. Hopefully going forward we can expect more transparency.

Majority of concerns in CBT was through lag and instability, they are not in the minority. Any sane person want a bearable lag and with no disconnectivity at all. Those players will go away from the game if do constantly experiencing that, it is common sense. Business wise you want your customer to feel satisfy so they will come back again. So your idea of taking them all in at once doesnt make sense, customer service wise.

Yep. We can only hope, and I am content with the current deal. Just wish people could talk freely about what could’ve been done better and why we think that.

Without these “TAKE MY MONEY! GIEF GAME!” fanatics jumping in every second, without even thinking what’s the best for the game and what will fix the problems that will arise in the fastest way possible.

That’s why it’s called OBT, not release.

You dont know that most onlines games never made it into release phase? OBT can be considered as a release date too specially if we already have cash shop on it. So what they did is justifiable.

If it doesn’t, then it wasn’t a game worth playing or supporting in the first place.

But I believe ToS is a better game than the random Asian mmorpgs that come out all the time and close within 6 months.

And despite lag and everything, I think the community would stay intact, because it is a fun and quality game, not just some hastened shitty Asian mmorpg.

OBT should not be considered release, even with a cash shop. That’s just a major misunderstanding.

TOS chance of it never making it into release is very high, because it is common practice. Just because the game doesnt made it into release phase and stays in OBT doesnt mean it would failed.

But it is common practice XDD. Even if you like it or not some games dont bother to make a tag of it as released. They just let it like that, because only cash shop will be added and it is already included. Thats why if TOS have cash shop on it chances high you wont see it in released. It doesnt even matter if OBT or released because both will not have reset anyway. They do address OBT as serious starting point so it make sense if they are very prudent in handling it.

It doesn’t, but I believe in this game and I think it should be confident and act boldly. It’s being held back by IMC and their practice.

While OBT is not release technically, the line is so blurry that it’s moot to consider them as separate entity anyway. Mostly there just as a disclaimer that it’s still work in progress.

You should join our ToS community on Discord.

Not exactly super active right now, because the game is not running. Most people are playing other games, but good discussions happen from time to time and it will only get more active as the OBT approaches.

I’m also…well, I’ll say designing (since I’m not creating it, because I won’t be joining the early access) a somewhat unique guild for the OBT, maybe you’d like to join it, if you like the idea. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh cool. Thanks for the invite!

Yes thats why Skygrinder cant use the word release as an excuse for IMC not to take game seriously. Whether it will stay in OBT or relase doesnt matter. XDD all they care is the satisfaction of the majority. If the majority wants a minimal lag then it just makes sense if they want a smooth transition of free players into the game.

This is wrong on so many levels. The difference from OBT to release is huge. Release has much more expectations and is much more privy to critique.

I’m not claiming to be an authority, but I work in software development. If I were to deliver a product in beta as a full release to a client, I would likely get in some very serious trouble. The amount of testing a beta product undergoes in order to meet the standards of a release should not be underestimated. To call them even remotely the same shows incredible ignorance.

Sure from a software developers point of view, it’s a big difference. For the gaming community? Nah. Nobody cares. They only care if it’s gonna get wiped or not (especially for an MMO).

And I did mention that OBT was mainly a disclaimer (to reduce expectations that would be for a release).

People do and should care. A game forever in Open Beta has much lower expectations and is generally much more lax about fixing issues than a release. When a game is released, it instills more confidence in the players.

I certainly feel much better investing time and money in a game that is actually out, versus a beta. I am positive that many gamers share this point of view too. Certainly my friends do.
