What if I don't want to tank?

Can this become a good dps’er as well as be powerful in PVP Swordsman - Swordsman - Hoplite - Hoplite - Hoplite - Doppeplsoeldner - Dragoon

Because I still want to be considered when doing dungeons, but also want to pvp and GvG

Not sure if re rolling abd doing swordsman and then pela - hoplite - hoplite -doppeplsoeldner - dragoon would be a better idea

tips?

uhh tank or not tank taking peltasta will always be a better idea

not sure why people are generalizing “i dont wanna be a tank i’ll avoid peltasta!”
it helps you a lot in soloing even, a map full of non aggressive mobs or low sight mobs can be pulled easily with pelt. sword 2 currently has little potential, i can see pain barrier working but that’s about 5 more seconds? trying to proc restrain 5 is also a gamble when cryos are the meta with their subzero control.

you can read up pvp builds but you’ll end up with something like sword3>cata3
or some builds with corsair, but hook is bugged currently or ninja nerfed.

why is pelt useful:
taunt(explained earlier),
manual blocking - seeing as you have 3x hoplite this will serve you a lot, also useful vs archers if you could time it

but if you want to pvp with the build you have in mind you’ll just be infinitely kited/controlled by mages

hmm I see, so Im better off starting a new char? im lvl 30 at the moment.
& what do you mean by be kited/controlled by mages?

or can I take pelac1 when I get to 3rd rank? not sure what to do here

check cryo’s subzero shield, well that’s not your only problem facing against them but it’s a major pain.

you can reroll maybe or focus on pvp completely with sword 3.

but the build itself(pel-hop3-dop-drag) is very good for dpsing in PVE, not comparable to some pure dps archer/mage build but it does a good job comparing other pve swordsman builds

also take a look at this

You should reroll. Level 30 is like 2 hours of playing, think of it as tutorial.

Whether you wanna tank or not, peltasta > swordman 2. Unless you wanna go swordman 3, never go swordman 2, it’s that bad.

The usual cookie cutter build is swordman -> peltasta -> hoplite c3 -> doppel -> dragoon

You should use 1h spear + shield when doing dungeon + GvG, since that way finestra give you +30% block chance, which is humongous.

Peltasta adds 25% more block chance on top of that, so with sufficient CON you block a lot.

This has nothing to do with tanking, it’s more about surviving. You live = you do more damage.

Lol pvp is totally broken in ToS. Musketeers one shotting everyone and CC classes is the only way. Wouldn’t even take it seriously.

@nelforeign Imho, if this is your first char, go with a cookie cutter as they suggest to farm/get familiar with the game. Unless you truly want a full dps build, wasting 1 rank in peltasta just for aoe pull is pretty meh. Why let other’s need stop you from building the character you want.

hmm what your saying makes a lot of sense… so your saying that even for PVP having peltasta would make being a dragoon even better…

Also is it recommended swordsman -> then peltasta to be rank 7 any other class?

also wanted to know whats the best for DPS rank 7 for swordsman

Currently shinobi is the best rank 7 DPS for swordman due to their clone, then doppel due to cyclone. Dragoon is all nice and stuff but it’s just for more skills

wtf, that person completely demolish her competition.

If you want to be considered for dungeons remember that anything that starts with Swordman and does not tank is horrible and unwanted.

Could be wrong but Shinobi is also a lot more… squishy. xD

Also doesn’t a lot of swordman -> peltasta -> hoplite c3 -> doppel -> dragoon dps come from auto-attack? Which could be beneficial depending on how you look at it.

Frankly, if you don’t want to tank, don’t play swordsman. Their DPS is abysmal because of really long cooldown skills and many skills with poor scaling as well. Sure, your single skill rotation can hit for a lot, and then you do nothing for 30 seconds while archers keep on spamming their 0 cooldown spells nonstop.

But the swordman -> peltasta -> hoplite c3 -> doppel -> dragoon line is suppose to be good DPS and good survival. Although I think it can take some time and gear to get into it.

This is the plan for my first character build although I chose it because I love the idea of Hoplite - Spear and Shield. Not many games give one-handed spears + shield as an option.

I laughed at the pelt 1 pvp build… sorry lol. This gives nothing for GvG or even arenas. You will not do much damage, you will be SLOW, yep, you will be incredibly slow and will be entirely useless, Pelts have no skills that are good for GvG as none have the hitbox to actually efficiently hit someone. There is use in taking sword 3, hell, even hoplite, but pelt 1 isn’t for pvp. It gives some self protection but that’s all. You’re better off going Sword 3, Cata 3 and dragoon, or even a hybrid of those without pelt but with Hoplite. At least then you’ll do some damage and will be hell of an annoyance against others in PvP.

As for Pelt… if you want a cheap excuse to easily be invited into parties while having shitty CON then go for it. If you want to make yourself happy and a have a pure DPS class, don’t go pelt as it’ll slow you down.

BTW: Cata 3 Rush is much better dps and utility than Cyclone…

At the current state of ToS, swordman cannot be good in both PVE damage and PVP at the same time.
If wanna be a good DPSer and PVP powerhouse, archer >scout > musket/cannon would do the job.
You can go for:
Tank mode which you don’t want to clearly.

PVP: Sword3 > Cata3 > Dragoon
Limited by cooldown, but you got decent burst and stunlock.

PVE: Sword > Pelt > Hop3 > Dragoon
Cookie cutter boss killer with added value of tank.

Medicore PVE PVP : Corsair builds
Kneel hauling and iron hook for PVP CC, and Jolly roger for extra party damage buff

Ahh I see. This exactly what I was thinking I mean yea I want to do dungeons but I don’t want to have to reroll and become pelt a class I’m not interested in.

What your saying makes a ton of sense.

What would you say is the best DPS within swordsman? Shinobi? Or corsair? I want to be able to attack fast and kill a lot in pvp. Ultimately I want to take a lot of damage from my opponent fast.

So by what your saying doesn’t seem like I have to reroll if my goal is to be dps not tanky.

Based on the current state of swordman class, just reroll to other class if that is your goal.

Except Rush annihilates your SP.

It takes SP to channel, in addition to it’s initial cost. So unless you know you are going to hit as many enemies as possible…it sucks.

She is awesome :scream:
