What i loved about RO which doesnt excists in ToS

I miss monsters having sounds, grinding feels so dull and lame because barely anything makes noises.

Now on the other hand, I don’t have to hear Muka’s anymore.

jajajajaja / transaltion: hahahahahahaa

i have so many good feelings when i remember RO, people ( in tos i talk to noone i dont know why :frowning: theres a reason but i dont know …)

the party´s in early levels … friends… bad builds… trying falcon hunter ( luk …i was so luky…)… beeing a support was a hard job … that priest in anubis … but ginding too much was horrible and boring…

i want a fusion between tos and RO …

Please, I’m begging you. I don’t always grammar ■■■■ but when I do…

  1. Lag in towns.
  2. Easier for gold sellers to transfer silver and more work for GMs to check.

There are more things that make RO have a bigger exploration feeling than just lack of quests. It’s the whole map design and the pre-renewal XP system that rewarded challenge without having to use any XP penalty system.

In ToS after 100 you might have 4-6 “corridors” instead of just 2. But it will still feel the same. Not to mention that it’s best to play the maps in level order so you get the most XP from them.

I feel TOS has made players rely on quests too much… So much so that there isnt a need to make friends and talk to people, unlike the old days of ro… It feels like a solo-mmorpg… Which is kinda sad… Even if i made friends, we all drift apart because we are all at different parts of the questline… No one in their right minds would forgo quests and grind with u before 220…

Then there’s the instanced dungeon/mission with random party match for bonus exp… Again, no need for friends…

I also missed all the player vending in town. It was so lively! Ofc, that was way before ragial and stuff came into existence…

Exploring the world (without quests) was fun and awesome! All of us had no idea where to go, which mobs gave the best job or base exp etc… We could just party up and go anywhere! It was an adventure!

Games nowdays seem like lonely play… Casual… By that i mean it doesnt make any difference how often i log in, as long as i complete my mission/dg which are chores tbh… Everyone solos through the same questline, same rewards, same maps, same mobs etc… There isnt any need to find out anything at all…

I miss the old ro… Not the renewal one with cash shop, gramps etc… Just the old pre-renewal one…

I really liked the vending feature. I believe it was part of the cbt but got removed…

RO didn’t age well outside of WoE, everything is dated content but people still wear rose-tinted nostalgia glasses over it.

Let’s see my experiences with RO…

Login server is unstable, you get constant dcs if it’s peak hours for the first year, and this is back when it was p2p.

MvPs in general were fun for the first month, then you begin to realize that only their cards have value; most of their item drops fall under gimmicks since a +10 3 racial 1 size card weapon would usually outdamage them. Then you have cards like GTB which makes some classes obsolete (sages) and insane damage boosters like fallen bishop, thanatos and the like. Oh, and like fletchers, ASPD rangers were pretty cost-efficient in murdering most MvPs in the game until Champions got their OHKO the boss gear.

Classes were fun to build and all, but eventually the gimmick builds like ASPD knights were creeped out in favor of which classes can abuse Bragi the most. Bragi essentially removed cooldowns from the game and it became the standard for endgame GvG, and high-tier MvPs outside of a fully-geared 193 aspd hunter/sniper. Acid bomb was the dps before Renewal.

Bots, bots everywhere. Bots in wolf map, bots in petite map, bots in thor… Yeah it was an issue there too it seems.

Pront vend was clutter. It takes me hours to windowshop for the item I want, and merchants griefed each other by overlapping vendor tiles to cover what could have been a cheap +7 Nessus Niddhoggur Garb for their absurdly overpriced very very strong wind katana.

There were no quests, only subtle hints on what the lore on RO exactly is like, which is fine. Somatology labs were memorable for this reason outside of being a dungeon of murder and ice wall cheesing, and when Gravity started giving out story quests like Kiel Hyre and Schwarzwald/Rekenber-related quests I enjoyed the minor details of the world I’m grinding for months in via quests instead of hey it’s a map with robots and I need exp here better aggro the robots, hide, and grimtooth for free exp.

WoE was the main reason why I kept playing RO, no other game at that time offered both the aesthetics and the free-for-all guild combat that made everyone feel accomplished after taking the castle from griefing loki’s veil and a billion ankle snare removal meta to 3s zerg the emp sinx meta. It was fun no matter the approach your guild takes. The god items were controversial at one point but in the end I’d rather hate GTB more for not even letting me dispell.

The game was fun at it’s time, it was very unique that it cemented itself for the people who played it, but while RO was not truly linear due to having 3x the areas as ToS because you feel forced to get exp cards in the latter and instead you have to stay in the most optimal place for you to get exp (geographers for long-ranged classes, undead for acolytes, swordsmen/thieves in low-def mobby places like wolves or obeaunes), it felt like a chore sometimes when I even had to pay people to leech me in Thor for weeks because of how LITTLE exp you get from a party instead of just finding a TKM just to be ready for GvG on the next month. I don’t know, looking back the game had a lot of flaws as well but when you ask most of the people who played RO on what they liked about it, usually it’s GvG/WoE and I guess it’s because no other game at that time had such content.

Not true. I actually played RO (pre-renewal) until this April. Only took a break from RO for ToS now. And I’m a pure PVE player, didn’t even attend a single WoE.

RO has its problems. Many problems. But it doesn’t change the fact that RO has a sense of exploration and enjoyment in grinding that no other MMORPG so far managed to offer so far.

An exact copy of pre-renewal RO just without its problems and even more maps (because after 10 years I already know them all by heart) would be the best thing in the world.

I was hoping ToS to be like it, but in the end it’s closer to WoW / Renewal than it is to the original RO. Even though it has some nice compromises, like removing quest markers so you have to look for them yourself or offering the collection system which actually makes grinding without quests viable and rewarding.

You are right, I should add “Feeling of danger and my playing skill being challenged” to the list.

The exploration was very nice for the first few years until you find your optimal grinding spots to reach max level. Sure, the world of Rune-Midgard is big, but in the end making new characters makes exploring what you’ve already done from Official, to private servers for over 10 years now without ever changing (yes, we’re forever stuck with ep 13 because a lot of people are still torn about RE) makes it annoying in the end. I mean, What does this area contain? More geographers? What’s the history of this place? Some area that just happened to be closed to a polluted city filled with sentient smoke as mobs? The exploration’s merely just new maps with nothing but mobs in it and for the most part you stay there or find another bot-infested grind spot (or a dead one if it’s a private server). I’ve done it along with MvPing endgames with a small clique (except camping bio3 because of setups) and I’m no longer sold to the PvM RO offers.

@ whosells command.

You surely can, i rebirthed a battlesage, sage that attached with book and autocast, heavy dex build… and then all the way to professor… it was difficult, and i needed a preist friend, but most classes need healing too, that was the beauty RO.

Having RCX for ToS, along with more optimization would help GvG and WB a lot, just because the game is not even using your graphics card.

Plague Doctors’ bloodletting is literally how 97 vit was like in RO. Sure, your items sacrifice your resist (flame skull instead of thara for instance) if you fear the ever-so-present AD but a lot of status effects on RO are far worse than ToS (poison, bleeding, blind) that they are hardly inconveniencing. A nerf is well-deserved for PDs though.

Based on how kToS updates are going, I’m still optimistic on how the game will go, the problems still persist but when the community’s an absolute mess finding addons to replicate RCX might start another witch hunt. We also need a lot more alternative leveling spots post 100 because after Main Chamber the game has literally a linear grind route of demon prison/shanton > dina bee > vilna forest > a split between verkti and namu temple/tyla monastery. The options are lacking, and I agree with the customization options, actual masks, the palettes official couldn’t even implement, and actual PvP to entertain the community who wants it. As for soundtrack, I like a lot of them, but most of the BGM that I didn’t like were Symphonix ones and that’s a lot.

I want RCX for my toaster to not run at 2fps just looking at 20 people on screen only to realize high-end specs share the same issues.

Fly wings were too convenient. I miss it, but it’s not really something I look forward to in a game with fixed spawn spots.

A lot of things are still subject to change, but so far counting bloodletting out only poison is hard-countered via antidote (you can’t use Dispellers in BL) while in RO the only status effect that actually gives you an impact is stun (scream/ms), frozen (marc/ed), and stone curse (ed, but there weren’t things that can spread them to a guild reliably at that time) and you can just greenpot/RJ anything else.

There are still skills that bypass Bloodletting here (level 10 debuffs like Iron Hook), it’s just a matter of tweaking the spell to not be a literal status immunity buff that doesn’t protect you from knockbacks.

I don’t mind WB if it not for having constant 2fps on Dullahan, at least, comparing it to RO snipers budget-wise were uncontested in sniping down MvPs much like fletchers (until the champs get their gear to tp ohko low-tiers and asuragank mid-high-tiers with sp song warp scumming), and chrono x something else reminds me of bragi and AD mowing down 90% of the MvPs available at that time.

Tree of Freedom is something that I’ve never believed in, at least, after experiencing RO and how useless a lot of builds are (LKs and WS in WoE, the rest being shoehorned to what they’re good at like dispell to prof, AD/SPP seperate creo builds, much like how pelt is right now).

What i loved about RO which doesn’t excists in ToS?

At the time I was playing RO nobody was doing parallel between two games - This is an annoyance that Tos has.

People compared RO to MapleStory, WoW, MU, RAN, CABAL, a lot of other forgettable MMO that only seems to be popular in SEA at that time though, but since people expected this to be some sort of spiritual successor to RO after the massive disappointment known as RO2 which is false advertisement, the backlash got huge despite the misinformation. This looks more like a spiritual successor to GranadoEspada without the 3player system.
