Tree of Savior Forum

What do you enjoy about ToS?

So I’m an semi-old Swedish man who’s been looking forward to this for quite some time. I wanted to buy into the game. Sadly, when I read the forums and the steam reviews all I see is negativity.
There are seveal reasons as to why I have not bought into the early access, I will get to those soon enough.

The whole point of this post is that I want you, who play this game to tell me why you do just that. You don’t have to reply to my list down below, it’s just there to showcase the negativity I’ve read and what worries me.
I’m not asking you to persuade me to play the game. I just want to read something positive about the game.

Are you enjoying killstealing people? Tell me! Loving the alchemist class? Tell me! Especially why you are loving it. The music? The questing? Why is your class the bomb?

Or just read the list below and inform me how wrong I am.

  • Not knowing the status of an EU server and Xenophobia [Resolved]

At first I didn’t know if there was even going to be EU server(s). Now I am told there will be (atleast) one. This was what was most important for me.
Secondly: One of the most hotly debated things in the forum is the xenophobia, Br vs US.
Sadly the same thing will happen in the EU. As a Swede I will have to play with the Poles, Russians, Italians, French, Germans ect ect (and to somewhat quote Willy from the Simpsons" Every Swedes’ worst enemy; Other Swedes. )."

One cannot expect IMC to just throw out 6 different servers just for the EU. So I do not expect an ENG server for EU. I wish we could have one, but we probably wont.

  • Botting, Spamming and hacking

This seems to be a growing problem sadly. I really can’t say much about this. I know to expect it and I know it’s hard to deal with.

  • Redicilous Restrictions

It seems IMC is being quite heavy handed in trying to stifle the Botting(and if I am to believe the forums, it’s to little to no effect.). It’s a huge turn-off and I will not be putting in any money until I experience the situation first-hand.

  • Kill Stealing

I played Ragnarok Online Beta way back when, I doubt it’s as bad as it was then. Time will tell.

  • Punishing crafting Classes

I wanted to make a squire, until I read that they seem to be quite bad, both Buff-wise and combat-wise. With 50(!)%currency penalty.

  • Dungeon party penalty

Getting punished with lower %XP for queing with my friends rather than soloQ just seems stupid to be honest.

  • The Exploit

I’ve read a bit about this, is the economy shot to hell? Some people seem to think so. I highly doubt I will have any troubles pertaining to this.

So there you have it. All I could think of on the top of my head.

Just to make some things clear; I will be trying ToS when it comes to the EU.

Again. I’m not asking you to persuade me to play the game. I just want to read something positive about the game.

TBH i would tell you dont play the game unless you want to experience all these shet.

im already burnt out even playing with my friend.

wait for f2p to see how it goes

But the freebies you get for buying it early…

I just want to enjoy playing an mmorpg again. Something I can just grind casually, pick up some rare items and smile about it. I’m a hoarder by nature so my thing in this game is just hunting mobs and collecting their rare <1% drop rate items

I don’t mind paying into the game because I’m an adult and aware there’s a price to pay for fun(let’s be real). I already bought all the dlcs twice for me and a friend so I can roll more enchant scrolls. RNG based systems are fun for me

I’m probably going to buy all the packages one or five more times when it goes on sale during last week. Just cause I wanna buy a bunch of enchant scrolls

welll then… buy the DLC next week as theres going to be an discount

i just want to be honest, in fact you dont have a hard time playing with all these flaws

you are able to play without too much inconvinience, but for me they just added up to make my game experience not that pleasant

The freedom of less-linear grinding.
Bugs aside, I have craptons of fun just roaming around and taking in the areas.
The Music that makes my ears gasm in splendor.
I actually like the lore and story arcs, plenty of grim and the more you realize how many NPCs end up dying and how many towns end up ravaged, the more you realize the Demons really have presence.
A very complex yet rewarding Class system.
The fact that there isn’t a heavy superiority with class system.

Also, don’t feel discouraged- If you don’t want to buy the Early Access, you don’t have to. Alot of the problems are generally MMO-wise issues, and currently IMC is adjusting themselves to the Westerner Mindset, although slowly. Very slowly. Infact I’m fairly sure a snail riding on molasses is faster.

The Pros definately out weigh the Cons

  • The game is absolutely beautiful if you like that type of art style.
  • Building your character is fun and challenging
  • Class diversity is also very good
  • Doing dungeons with friends are fun.
  • Selling stuff in the market and coming back a few days later with a ■■■■ load of silver is pretty fun as well

even with all the restrictions. I barely notice them.

Don’t get me wrong, theres a few thing wrong bug wise but IMC has already proven to making upgrades constantly.

The only thing that Unchangeably Bad is the Community.

  • botters
  • exploiters
  • Constant complainers
  • Negitive Nancys
  • Self-Entitled bastards

unfortunately no one posts about anything they enjoy. But will make threads about things they dislike and want to complain. And the threads are not even addreseed to the developers so that they can fix it. they want everyone to feel the hate that they feel. As they say: "Misery Loves company"
Hell they wont even post a support ticket.

Its pretty much “DO WHAT I WANT OR THE GAME WILL FAIL” bull crap. and if they don’t get it immediately, they rush over to steam and leave a crappy review.

so in short. most people on these forums are idiots. The game is really really good, especially if your an old Ragnarok Online Fan. There will be some server connectivity issues from time to time but they usually resolve in around 20 mins.

One of the things I enjoyed the most when playing RO.

I just don’t see a reason to get it until there’s a server on my side of the ocean

More of this please! This is why I started this topic.I want people to tell me what they like/love about ToS.

Sounds to me like you’re having a really good time with the game.

Since you live in Sweden, you’ll want Fedimian since that server will be moved to Germany. When, nobody particularly knows. Some speculate it’ll be on F2P release or very shortly after, but there’s no way of knowing.

But since you mentioned Ragnarok, I’m absolutely sure you’ll have fun with the game. Just make sure you do some research as to what build you may want if you want to be optimized. This game rewards those who put in a little work to how you want your character to correspond late game with others.

Main reasons I like the game is the class system and the way it has an older mmo feel to it. I like trying to figure out strong builds that might not necessarily be mainstream. I also like how it is (arguably) a non p2w game.

I also like the artstyle and the music is alright. I like how you can craft usable equipment. I like how you can grind the mats for these equipment and sell them on the market to make money. I like to grind for rare drops. Yes, its a grinding game. Believe it or not, it seems linear at first, but with the addition of orsha I have like 4 places i could go level up right now and many places i could farm items for.

As for the botting and spamming. Yes, it is annoying, but they are working on it and it is everywhere. Bots/RMT love grinding games. I hope they can find a solution by the time it goes F2P.

Restrictions have their reasons. Bots would be way worse with no restrictions. Or is it that they need to make more bots to actually make profit with the restrictions? IDK. I honesly think alot of the trolls on the forums are RMT/bot/silver seller supporters who think spreading rumors and causing an uproar will get them what they want. Which is the restrictions gone. They have made announcements they are reducing the restrictions though.

Kill stealing happens… not much to say about that. Not everywhere you go though and its not some game breaking thing.

IDK about crating classes, but i see them setting up shops everywhere.

I’m not sure if i would call it a penalty. You just get more of a bonus with random groups because the classes you end up with can make the dungeon more difficult. By the time you spend a couple days on a dungeon you wont get enough xp to keep doing it anyway, with or without the extra bonus. You can keep farming it for items though, but you wont care about xp when you’re doing that.

The exploit didn’t really do anything to the economy. Bots affect the economy more. The economy is fine imo.

I was under the impression that if you went into a dungeon with a full group of randoms the xp bonus would be 600% and if you went in with a full premade the xp bonus would be 450%. Is this wrong? It all depends on classes?

No it doesn’t depend on classes. What i mean is if you use the dungeon finder you might end up with some combination of classes that dont work well together, making the dungeon more difficult.

If you premake a group you can tailor it how you want.

Edit I did some searching around, and its 600% bonus for party finder group and 450% for premade, like you said. It is per mob and divided among the party members though. So each player gets 120% xp with a party finder and 90% xp with premade. So, 30% more with party finder.

  1. Resolved.
  2. Just like every other MMO out there, people will act like this is the only one with a bot problem, and like they have the magic solution no other AAA title has ever thought of.
  3. It’s a lot like point #2. People just like to complain. There are a few minor annoyances, but it’s not bad. IMC has done loads to appease people’s complaints as well, but they get no credit for this sadly.
  4. I’ve literally never had a major issue with kill stealing, and I’m pretty far into the game. I’ll cap before it goes free to play almost definitely unless I end up focusing too much on alts.
  5. Yes you do have to pay taxes on your shops as a crafting based class. If you choose to make a crafting base class, you’ll probably be less useful, though full tank squire works great because of Pelstata being the only class needed to tank and how tanking works in general.
  6. It’s a bonus for making it through the dungeon with what is probably a bad party. It makes sense. When you get into the dungeons, you’ll see how fast a good party can clear compared to a bad one. The exp buff is to offset this somewhat.
  7. Much like the other points of exaggeration, it’s not a big deal to the end-player. It is a big deal to IMC though, who lost actual currency on this. The economy is no different after the exploit really.

As far as what I’m enjoying, there’s a lot. First is the Ragnarok nostalgia. This game feels like Ragnarok Online like no other game has, and it’s not just the graphics and music. It’s a bit tough (by new hand-holding MMO standards). It wants you to party. It wants you to grind a bit. There’s variety in the classes. The class system is amazing. I love the just crazy yet cohesive set of class and trying to come up with builds. It’s genuinely just fun. The only real issue is the bigotry right now.

LET’S SEE er:

  • music + art + even the sfx (though, if you’ve played enough kmmos, you’ll notice some of the sfx is common domain). The stylistic choices for this game are wonderful. Every time I enter a map, I’m like “oooh this is nice” HAHA (alt + a lets you hide the UI)
  • I find the combat really addictive. My build would be considered hellish and horrible by a lot of people, and I knew this (my build was called regrets), but I stuck to it and had fun with it somehow. I don’t think you can do that with many mmorpgs.
  • I’m sort of excited every time I get a new rank. I’m also excited to see what they do with rank 8 and so forth, because I adore weird builds and more classes = more weird builds. I also love how they implemented so many strange ideas. I remember in a lot of mmorpgs people just threw out unrealistic class suggestions relative to the game like “make a ninja!” or “i want a summoner that does x and y” and this game totally just makes it all a reality.
  • I like that the game is in the hands of a small company. Whether I dislike them or not, they do listen to the community.

I’ll add more if I can think of it, but yeah. It’s basically the gameplay for me, since I don’t like the community. It’s rare for gameplay in an mmorpg to be good enough for me to ignore something like that.

Really? I didn’t know that. Can i play with the UI turned off if i use a controller? I’m going to try it out when I can play later.

Also I really agree with this part.

I enjoy the atmosphere. The music and art is really nice to look at. It feels simple and clean. I also like the variety in classes and the sheer amount of unique builds you see people using. I like the exp card system and I also like how the game promotes partying. I’m having a lot of fun with my friends. When we all played Final Fantasy XIV, we did quests together and FATEs and even dungeons, but because every kill matters in Tree of Savior, it feels more rewarding to take our time and kill things.

I think overall my favourite thing about Tree of Savior is how different it is from the other MMOs out right now. I hope it thrives and becomes very successful.

I enjoy nothing at the moment.

I love IMC taking advantage of us and our money.
I love that they are more focus on things that will make the money rather than the game itself.
I love the F2P Model!
I love the fact that they went for f2p which show they care more about money than the game itself!
