The number one contributing factor to my enjoyment of any online games is the community. Unfortunately, the current Tree of Savior community leave much to be desired.

I actually love the community here. Yes, you’re going to have whiny teenagers who complain about every game, demand free to play games make 0 money in any way, and think it’s funny to spam memes and be racist. That’s in every MMO, though.

Ask a question in ‘yell’ chat sometime. Watch the amount of answers that get spammed at you. This community is super helpful and dedicated to progressing as a whole.

the forums are filled with hate and bile, because these are the people who would rather complain than play the game.

based on the total number of downloads, globally (over 500k, compared to a current average of 25k players), there will probably be plenty of different EU servers eventually.

it’s a problem, same as it is for basically any new game not run by the top triple-A game studios. they’re working on it, and again, some people would rather just complain than work around the bots.

-repeat the statement about the complainers, again-
for those of us who like to play, and aren’t the kind who are going to play 24/7 for the first week to max out a character, it’s really not as serious as it seems. yes, some of the restrictions are inconvenient, but none of them are impossible to work with.

backwards: it’s a bonus for taking the risk to gamble on a randomly assembled party. and it really is random. all tankers? sure why not. no heals? all the time. etc.

people panicked, freaked out, complained, cried, angsted, etc… and most of the “proof” was fake anyway.

you seem like the reasonable sort, so far… so take everything you read here with a grain of salt.
in fact, maybe you should just buy a 5kg salt-lick from a horse supply shop to keep next to your desk.

i’ll say it one more time…
much of the forum is composed of the people who would rather complain about issues which actually have little practical effect on the game, rather than simply play it and have fun.

if you liked the general style and feel of RO, then you will enjoy this. it’s not the same (duh), but it fits quite well into the same general category.

while you’re at it, if you’re of the geeky sort, google around for the ip of klaipeda/orsha/fedimian, and throw a bit of ping their way. if your ping is reasonably small (say under 300-400ms), it might be worth giving it a try now. the game isn’t super twitchy, and a small delay like that shouldn’t wreck it for you.

I have developed some quick, point form notes which will be the basis of a video review for my YouTube channel but here is a summary. NOTE: I have no Ragnarok experience and have no idea what that even means.

I have over 180 hrs logged since March 30th, and a level 160 Sorceror and a level 60 Hoplite.

THE GOOD

  1. The graphics and artwork are absolutely gorgeous and inspired.
  2. The XP system uses XP cards that can be used later and is very creative. This adds an element of strategy to leveling.
  3. Using a PS4 controller via bluetooth for my PC was strange at first but now I am totally in love with it. I have two PS4 controllers and no PS4 in my home. DS4 Windows made it completely plug-in play and I didn’t have to configure anything - it just works.
  4. The collections system buffs your total account and implements a brilliant exploration aspect to the game that cannot be overstressed how fun and addictive it is.
  5. Two seperate levels of character and class is brilliant. I repeat, brilliant. The 80 total classes give unlimited replay-ability and variety.
  6. I too am semi-old and the combat system reminds me of Zelda: A Link from the Past from SNES and other console fighters such as Double Dragon or River City Ransom. Because I have millions of hours of experience with those games I love the combat. It doesn’t seem grindy to me because I enjoy the fights.

THE BAD

  1. Connected to the above point, it seems like there is casting latency when doing moves and this delay can get me killed vs bosses. It seems like part of the game, but I would appreciate a more responsive system like street fighter. Why does it take 2 seconds to cast a two-frame animation fireball? I’m hoping its server lag and not a core programmed fault.
  2. This game seems a bit pay-to-win at the moment. Not only does the $10/month premium get you 30% more flat XP but the +3 to movement speed and +4 to auction house trades seems a bit busted. Good luck getting to level 240+ without spending some cash (aim for 2017).
  3. The stash system is disappointing. Not only is it difficult to trade items between alts, you are unable to organize your stash and it costs 20 silver per transaction. Very odd, and somewhat unacceptable.
  4. Gold selling bots are mildly annoying but not a major issue.
  5. Some say that this is a boring grind-fest, and it will get that criticism but I do not see it as a grind any more than getting prestige in CoD or ranks in CS:GO. If you enjoy what you are doing it isn’t quite a grind IMHO.
  6. I’m not accustomed to anime, and was confused by the sexualization of childish characters. Maybe I don’t understand the genre but it seems inappropriate (I am not a prude). The heroes and townsfolk seem both 12 and 21.
  7. I’d like a bald hairstyle for male characters ASAP.
  8. I realize I’m in the minority here but I muted the music. Electro-cheeze casio beats didn’t quite do it for me. I think a full score would be better in the long term. Such as this Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Orchestra!
  9. The aura/buff sound effects (Enchant Fire/Reflect Shield) for the wizard become very tiresome and annoying, there needs to be an option to lower the volume of that or remove completely. It’s almost like an alarm clock. Ugh.

These are all I can think of for now but if any of this resonates with you please subscribe to me on YouTube I will have these points in video form soon.

my thoughts on your thoughts…

The Good:
2; i love this too… i can be like “omg, can’t stand this rank anymore” and burn a good pile of them to finish off the last few levels in a rank… or save them for the Exp-table breaks, or just spam them all like delicious candy as soon as i get them.

4; this is a really innovative system, and i love it. plus with all the insanely rare drops it needs, there’ll always be something to do…

5; splitting character and class levels isn’t exactly uncommon anymore, but i still love it. plus the way ToS has divided the individual ranks with a series of expanding classes available… now THAT is amazing.

The Bad:
1; it’s probably an animation-sequence. the character doesn’t do what you want immediately because it’s in the middle of doing something else, like finishing a swing, or something. it -would- be nice if there was an indicator on the hotkey, to show that it’s queued though.

2; the 20% xp bonus (30% is xp tomes) isn’t really all that much. if two players leveled side by side, earning the same exp… when the Token user hits 280, the non-token user is still at like… i did the math before but don’t remember exactly. it was like 274ish i think ? …yea, 20% of your total exp is the last 6 levels. (lol. have fun with those.)

3; agree there. mind you, 20 silver is really a pittance once you hit like 25ish. the Team Storage is really where the problem is… but they’ve already announced that they are looking into ways to reduce the restrictions there, so fingers crossed that it develops to a more reasonable state.

6; it’s really a north-american culture issue. americans are much more uptight about sex that all the preachers would have you believe. in asian animation, it’s quite acceptable to show panty-flashes or topless teenage girls to teenagers, and these sorts of “fanservice” attract certain audiences, so it gets used. it’s the same as american bikini-clad models selling anything the marketing department can make an excuse for them to hold.

that said, i find that “sexualization” and “childish” both don’t seem to fit. nobody is posing nude (at least i haven’t seen that yet, and would be surprised if i did), nobody is having sex, heck i haven’t even found a “romantic” storyline bit yet. as for “childish”, i’d say it’s more stylized (for the NPC art) or simplified (for the character models).

7; i was quite disappointed in general, with the initial customization options. i mean i didn’t expect a LOT, especially considering the history of similar types of games… but a couple more hairstyles would have been nice, especially beard options for males. and at least a small selection of default hair colors. maybe all the ones the basic hairstyles come in already. blonde, honey, brown, dark, pale…

anyway, great thoughts, and glad you’er enjoying it too
