Shield - Iron Fortress
Context
The idea for this shield is to be a full body size suctum with features that improve its offensive use without losing the defensive aspect of the equipment, for all the functionalities intended taking notice of the classes that use it as a weapon the visual theme of an old train frontal module felt like a natural fit. “Some would assume this is part of some kind of unknown machinery powered by practonium but there’s no records of its use, the sturdy structure can be used as a shield.“
Despite the uncommon appearance this shield is meant to be wore with the pilot (iron bars structure) at the top (left display) allowing the user to have vision and protection against melee attacks, yet it can be used upside down (right display) for a more pleasant aesthetic. The middle part is denser than the rest of the shield and that requires it to be thinner in order to maintain some balance, this extra weight balances the full grip points in both pilot and side bars to empower skills such as Targe Smash and Suctum Hit making use of the bottom side thicker edges as well.
Gimmick Suggestions
- Change the orientation of the shield to be upside down when using Shield Charge, Slithering and Shield Train, this last one having the shield to be spinned back to the original position on the second hit.
- Train whistle sound when using Swash Buckling and Shield Train.
- Character block glow changed from cyan to purple.
- Equipment glow changed to purple in higher intensities based on the enhancement range.
Staff - Spitirual Guardian
Context
Staffs are usually a more fantastic weapon as they don’t need any particular feature to work, anything from forged ornate poles to simple wooden sticks can do the job as long as they have enough length and carry magical properties. “A staff carved from a branch of an elder tree by an experienced Dievdirbys, it’s imbued with the same spiritual power of owl statues and resonates with the wielder magical abilities.”
One interpretation i do find interesting within magic in media as a whole is the way it’s drawn from nature and as such requires to user to be in contact with it to make most of it, however that can lead to any generic interpretation on nature and Crystal Roots being a great fit within the game universe it doesn’t feel that interesting for what they do. That tho isn’t the case with the owl statues as they are part of the game lore and present in a fair share of maps with even a dedicated NPC, it felt as a more natural and interesting conclusion to be a link of simplicity and fantasy.
Gimmick Suggestions
- All cast animations overwritten to a more traditional casting with the staff being taken as a straight pole in front of the user and the other hand offering support on the chant.
- Dim glowing effect during cast, increases glowness over cast time.
- Default attack particles as spirits
- Equipment glow changed to cyan in higher intensities based on the enhancement range.
