Yestarday I was leveling with my 2nd char in Crystal Mine 3F and there were only 3 channels to choose, I would like to have more channels in crowded areas like dungeons
More channels in all game.
More like remove all channels. They discourage party play and competition and make the world seem less solid.
Not sure how their infrastructure currently works and if this is possible, but I think dynamic channel amounts based on # of players on the map would be best.
It is also not good to force partys. A good amount of players want some solo play every now and then, for example to measure their own abilitys.
Lack of channels doesnât prevent you from soloing nor force you to party. Itâs mostly a question of adjusting the server player capacity. Channels easily make the world feel empty, as do instances.
A self-adjusting capacity of channels based on the number of players present, and a static amount of channels (and how many of those there are) both present differing effects as design choices, and itâs up to the developers to decide which they want to pursue.
Self-adjusting capacity panders to solo players, and players who donât want to compete for kills/space, generally a more casual-friendly, and less community driven type of deal.
A static number of channels, going with the 3 we have now, leaves just enough room for players to opt out of more frequented channels if soloing but always at the risk of competition, especially as the region is more populated. It also makes finding a party that much easier as players are condensed.
This choice is more in line with what I feel the developers have presented us with, it promotes party play, even with randoms, and helps discourage solo play.
Self adjusting really depends on the âcapâ before a new channel is generated. For example, I donât think a cap like 30 players / channel would pander to solo players on most maps.
Lots of channels = bad
Medium channels = good
Few channels = bad
You canât even argue that âmore channels discourages party playâ because thereâs a whole feature in the game dedicated to finding parties. Though it is true that with TOO many channels the world feels empty.
Some people like to not be lagged into crashing by 30 people spamming skills in the same area.
I suppose itâs more of an issue of balancing either choice around their design philosophy than anything, I merely used what we had as an example. Neither is ârightâ for what I assume theyâre intending, but what we have now isnât particularly terrible.
